Also, the most effective test is an offset frontal test. Full frontal means that the engine takes the hit. If you hit that tree offset I doubt the passenger compartment would be in as good shape

Well how can that many Brits be dying on British roads? Brit cars normally can't go more than 40 mph or 40 miles between break-downs, so most Brits have to walk wherever they're going. I'm thinking the road conditions hardly matter. Of course, they may injure themselves while pushing their cars down the road to the nearest mechanic shop, I'll grant you that possibility. I love the fact that for some reason everyone seems to overlook the fact that speed cameras are an amazing way to make our roads safer by ensuring people stick to the limits. The people who complain about them have absolutely no self-control or discipline and think they can do what they want. I am a driver, and yes I enjoy driving fast. But the roads are not the place for it and speed cameras are one probably the best way of keeping people safer on our roads.

It frontal crumple zones are very good but the Window Sill is the only thing providing strenght to the passenger compartment. Ther is no, i am repeat no safety cage for a rollover in the Laguna. The car has a very weak/non existant A-Pillar.

I am very much aware of the limit on these roads, more so that you it would seem. My doubt is that this is the true average. I live in a place which is full of these roads and rarely see anyone exceeding the 40mph mark. You will see the odd idiot hitting 60mph but I doubt there are enough to raise the average to 55. Driving above 50mph on these roads is near suicidal.

I'm pretty sure that my average is 55mph on a country lane. Last month I drove from Salisbury to Bath in a good time using just a crappy turbo diesel passat and I didn't kill a whole family of bunnies, like the time I ripped out of lowestoft.
