  • wow, dude! you're fantastic! i love this song, and it's so obscure to the general public -- glad i stumbled on you!

  • It's amazing how ( I think ) you can tell within the first 5-7 seconds whether someone is any good or not. Excellent job!

  • Well! What else can I say? Excellent mate!!!

  • love the version! but, don't forget that tasty A in the bridge... :)

  • Truly wonderful! Thank you for uploading.

  • Great song and great playing. Neat little tune that.

  • Nice One, my son!!!

  • Superb job. Thank you.

  • My teacher was in this band. he's a great guy!

  • This is the BEST version in You tube (other than the original;) Wonderful job and I love your voice and guitar playing.

Please send me the tabs so I can play it since I can't pjay by ear like all you great guys out there.

Loe this song and your version.

  • I will really enjoyed your video! Nice singing and playing of one of my favorite songs!

  • Great job! This was always a favorite, but was really hard to find for several years. I think I may like your version more than the original at this point. Lyle Workman is a great guitarist, though.

  • Where have you been hiding?

  • @lofoodius In the man cave, away from all the Adonis DNA that's walking the earth right now.

  • This verison rocked and I would loved to have seen it in person. Good job on a rockin song dude!!!! Vocals and guitar plaing were awesome and all on key -very rocking kick-ass job! ;love that song too!! oh, and Canada ROCKS!

  • @StarHallow1 Haha - thanks.

  • I think you did an awesome job ...... !!! you rock and this song was VERY well done ... !! rock on!!! Would love to hear more!

  • Thank you... that was awesome

  • @cwaliser You're more than welcome.

  • it's not everyday that you come on a great song as this

    done so well

love your saying that guitar playing is not a competition

way to keep it real as they say today

    peace,

    rich

  • @kidderminsterbro Thanks. Still a fav!

  • Very nicely done. You have a very nice touch on the guitar and a beautiful voice. Excellent and eclectic song choice too!

  • Nice job....

  • Just heard this on the radio today - great tune. You did a nice job with it.

  • Great job.

  • Saffronboots, just wanted to say how much I enjoyed watching you and listening to this song. It was one of my favorite songs back in the day and you really brought back a ton of memories. You did an excellent job with the guitar (great tone and finger picking) and you have a really good voice too.

    I'm a fan now. thanks again :)

  • brilliant cover of a great song beautiful

  • @CAVERN1234 Glad you liked it!

  • Excellent! Can I make a suggestion?

If any guitarist viewing your video cannot get your first 3chords-try this-first chord e then slide this open e (no barre) up to 9th fret then slide down to 7th fret -easy! I play my version a few times then always come back to listen to yours!! Thank you!

  • I'm going to try that chord progression.

  • @TheMagpiejefe Those are interesting and full voicings on the chords you've chosen. Thanks.

  • Very nice man! This song is timeless. I've met Larry Tagg a few times in Sacramento and Brent Bourgeois' son, Adrian, plays around SacTown often.

  • I like Adrian's duet with his father on this tune.

  • Excellent! i used to try and play this way back when and could just never get it right... *sigh*

your guitar has great tone...very nice...

  • I love this guitar too.

  • Hey man, really nice! I have played that song in my cover sets for years and have had some bum chords. I hope you don't mind (at all) but I watched your prowess and duped some of your fingerings. Great job dude, one of my favorite acoustic songs of all time as well as Bourgeois Tagg being one of my favorite 80's bands!

    Bravo!

  • Thanks. If you find the chords useful, go for it. I watched Lyle Workman play this and I do know he does something a little different.

  • Saffronboots, I'm guessing the Grapes of Wrath song you might be wanting is called "all the things I wasn't". Check it out. I'm sure you'd master the song in an istant. Nice job, mate.

  • Yes I do think that's the song.

  • one of my all-time favorite songs. Superb performance!

  • There's an old Grapes of Wrath tune I love too, but haven't learned to play. I forget the name. Thanks for the compliment.

  • Great job

  • Thank you.

  • Thanks. Hope it brought back good memories.

  • this is just great! I am going to attempt it now!

  • Give 'er! Will you post a vid?

  • ha! I suck too bad. Besides, I have no technology to post it up. And i will in no way be as good as you, so we will all spare ourselves the pain of hearing me and my weakness. BUT YOU ARE GREAT!

  • Hey - very nice. I'm pretty new to playing and your video helps lots. Do you happen to have a tab for this tune. I can't seem to find it anywhere. Either way nicely done. Cheers

  • I've never seen a tab for this one. Thanks.

  • Excellent job. I used to do this one a few years back and hearing you play it made me wanna relearn this one,(you know how it's always easier second, or third, or even fourth time around.

Great to find yet another great Canadian musician on youtube.

Them canucks can play! Must be something in the water;)

  • Yep definitely the water...

  • Great job with one of my favorite songs ever.

  • Glad you enjoyed it. It's funny how many people recognize it as soon as I start playing.

  • Very nice and soulful. Just like the original.

    clap..clap...clap

  • This is really excellent, a pleasure to watch.

  • Beautiful!!!! You are excellent!

Hugs, from Montevideo, Uruguay, South America

    Billy :-)

  • Lovely version - well done.

  • really nice

  • I found this album at a used records store tonight! I'm listening to it right now actually.

  • i remember buying the 45 years ago when it was just out. great song and a great find for you!

  • AH !!!!! the first guy to ever figure the first three Chords Correctly!!!!!

    Well done mate!

  • Just brilliant!

  • Awesome, this is an all time favorite! Good chops man! Thanks!

  • Thank you sir.

  • You saved me. All day long, I've had a craving for acoustic covers of 80s songs. Browsing, I found 5 crapily played, crapily sung, and crapily recorded tunes.

Then I came across yours. OUTSTANDING! You've certainly made my day! Keep it up!

  • Thanks kayrocker. I'm glad you enjoyed it.

  • Great job.

  • Thanks.

  • That was awesome! ... I don't suppose you could tell me where I could find the guitar chords for this song, eh? The prestigious Internet does not seem to want to give them up. . .

    Thanks.

  • I shared some of the chord voices that I use in some of the earlier comments. See if they help. I'm glad you liked the vid!

  • Great job! I thought I was the only one who remembered and liked this one.

  • And then there were two...

  • your version is better than a pros named ricky vacca

  • nice job on an obscure but memorable song, yours is the only cover i see here. beautiful

  • There was another one that was cool, but seems to have disappeared.

  • Also, can you please tell me what chord you're playing at 0:47, as well as the chord after that? I can't quite figure out your fingering there.

  • (E) 076454 - 077600

  • Wow, this is just about perfect! I've been trying to figure this song out again recently and this video helps a lot. My only suggestion is I think there's another chord played during "that I have to..." Great work. I think I'll subscribe to you.

  • I guess. I don't know, I've been doing the song from memory.

  • Very nice cover. Great song. Thanks.

  • Thanks for watching and commenting Darcy.

  • playing in public is overrated..now that we have you-tube hehe

  • do you do bar mitvahs...or anything by todd. anyway,,very nice style.

  • Unfortunately, I don't know how to play any of Todd's stuff. I rarely play in public anymore.

  • when todd i at the controls he turns up the eqs and runs the board hot. instead of recording flat and mixing the effects after the recording..thats why there is some bleeding of the vocals and not alot of lows..but thats todds sound..this is how he has recorded in the past..not sure if that is still his style of production...as he says..he records what sounds good to him..what a talent

  • So THAT'S what's going on?!? Thanks for the insight. I have an "honest" stereo system at home and his work always stood out as extremely bright. It's hard to listen to an entire album sometimes. I bet it sounds really good on AM radio though....

  • Greatn song. Awesome performance. right on man! Thanks!

  • Terrific job. Thank you.

  • Thanks. Takes you back a few years, huh?

  • Great song and an excellent cover. Stand up and take a bow, Bud!!

  • Thanks your gr1atness!

  • very nice.

I personally know Brent and he would be glad to c people still enjoy his music

  • Yoyo was a fantastic album.

  • Yes, I do. But it is his talent for arranging/mixing, etc. that gives this piece a Beatlesque sound ala his productiobn work for XTC.

  • Great job! Love the song, very unerated band. Thank God for Todd Rundgren to produce them on this.

  • Thanks. You don't find Todd's production work a little treble heavy?

  • Excellent Cover for this song! This is one of my favorite songs of all time. Thanks for doing it such great justice!

  • I hope it took you down memory lane. I had a heck of a time tracking down this tune, oh so many years ago.

  • MAN THAT WAS INCREDIBLE. You have some talent there, saffronboots, and you couldnt have chosen a better song to cover. Bravo, dude!

  • Thanks Happyhead!

  • Can you PLEASE share the tabs or chords you used to play this with me? I cannot find them anywhere.

  • I don't have sheet music for this (I learned it by ear) BUT here are the basic chord shapes I use:

    Intro: 079900 - 079800 - 079600 -- x4664x

    2nd: 2x220x - x0210x - x2220x - 0x2100

    chorus:

    446654 - x44444 - 446654

    076454 - 077600 - 079900 - 09111100 - 079900

    079900 - 079800 - x02200

  • Last line should be:

    079900 - 069800 - x02200

  • I've heard this song MANY times over the years! I never knew who did it! Thanks for the quick little trip down memory lane to the 80's. :0)

  • You're more than welcome. There were quite a few gems from the 80's.

  • Cool!

  • Thanks!

  • Hi, I had a record from "Bourgeois Tagg" from about 1984 and I loved the guitarsound, do you know this record?

Anyway, I've written a software for guitarplayer, click my name if you are interested for it.

  • Hmmm, well it would be either "Bourgeois Tagg" ('86) or "Yoyo" ('87). I'm only familiar with Yoyo.

  • BRAVO!!!!!

  • Please, please, you're too kind.

  • Excellent job! Well sung and amazingly well played! I love the song, and this is as good as it gets! Thanks for posting, and keep playing!

  • Will do, thanks.

  • FANTASTIC!!!!! Couldnt be any better!

  • Thanks. I think it could use more cowbell...

  • Brilliant! ive just rediscovered this beautiful song, and what a fantastic cover dude

  • Thanks Danno.

  • Great voice and great cover.

  • Thank you very much.

  • The first thing I'd recommend is pick up your guitar. *grin* Have a listen to Brian Harmer's cover, I think his chord choices are closer to the recording.

  • awesome job man. I would do anything to play this incredibly beautiful song.

  • Excellent job! Chord voicings sound exactly right to me, I've been wanting to add this song to my rep for a very long time. Nice of you to post this!

I hope those guys made some money off that great song.

  • Thanks. Hey, if it helps you to learn it, then it was all worthwhile.

  • That was a splendid rendition. I thought that song would always sound a little better acoustically anyway.

  • Thanks so much. I used to perform this with a couple of friends with the original vocal arrangement in three-part harmony and solo guitar. That always sounded cool to me.

  • Warren that was fucking AWESOME I've always have loved that song, you have done it great justice. Really very awesome stellar job.

  • I'm flattered. I wish I had the strings or the stereo sound of the universalmusic channel. I wonder how much that costs on the 'Tube?

  • Excellent job Warren. Great guitar and vocals. I have always loved this song and wanted to learn to play it. I've been watching you play it for about a week and have almost got it down. Thanks so much for posting it.

  • You're more than welcome. Doesn't it sort of remind you of Blackbird?

  • Top stuff, Mate. Love the song, love the technique, like the voice.

  • Cheers. I like the vocal crack at the end: I was sick when I did this but liked it enough anyway 'cause it seemed to add some "desperation" to the words. Ha ha!

  • ...yeah, but I do!!! You rock and I suck...I'm gonna cry now, ok? See ya....

(I need to go and practice)

    rsss..rsss..;)

  • That was wonderful!!!! Great vocals and playing! Check out my vid for BT and let me know what you think.

  • I will check it out.

  • Wow, you nailed it!

  • Thank you very much. I wish I had Brent's tone and control but we work with what we got.

  • Great job, Warren! By the way, I just read your article in the Fretboard Journal. I'd really like to attend the course myself (but I have no guitar building or woodworking experience).

  • No experience is needed - I didn't have any. Only enthusiasm.

  • Cool! Plus I can see the chords too, so I can learn it!

  • I make no guarantee that the chords are correct - as per the recording. *grin*

  • What a sweet sound, and plays so well! And quite good looking too! And hey look! Warren's in the video too!Jk. - Always perfect.

  • Who ARE you?!? Celtic music and tractor pulls?!?
