I was trying to install Linux 6.2 on my PS3, but using a standard tv. Everything goes fine until I have to reboot, after the installation process, because I have to type in some evtra stuff. When I get down to the last thing I have to type in, "startX", it all ways says command not found. Do you know what's is wrong, if not it looks like I will be buying a HD tv sooner than expected, because I saw that you did not have to go through that process. Thanks!!!!

If you want, one can omit enlightenment and just load either the kde or gnome version

ydl is great on ps3 if you cant install it and have problems try the ps3 magic guide step by step will install for you ubuntu or ydl on your ps3. get it from ps3magic(dot)org

what heppnes if the tv mode resolution is not supported,does it just go back to the screen where you type in the resolution (like 720p, 1080p etc)

By installing Linux , Does it make the ps3 system able to play games via online, example.. Counter Strike , left 4 dead, killing floor, say using Steam as the operating system for the games. I am a big computer gamer and I have a ps3 but hate being denied to use a keyboard and mouse for a first person shooter game. Any feedback is appreciated.. Thanks in advance.

i have a very stupid question i'm sure, but how do you change back to the ps3 os? do you enter 'ps3-boot-game-os' in "terminal" or from when it first boots up and it says kboot? or can it be done both ways? please reply, it would be nice to play some pc games on my ps3.

btw, if anyone here likes this distro of linux, then you should check out some other ones for your computer, linux has a great community for the most part.... my favorite is linux mint ;)

2 ways, in kboot, or in the actualy linux desktop, from the linux desktop click the blue botton (like a start menu) and look for something that says switch game os, which takes you back to ps3 and no not a dumb question at all =] hope that helps

well i havent confirmed it myself, but a youtuber commented on my video saying he used a wireless keyboard and it worked just fine

Wasn't there a way to make a separate partition on the drive so to not delete anything from the XMB (Such as savegames etc.)?

probably in the past, but thats why you back it up with a external drive

Yeah, of course I would still backup my stuff anyway but there are a few videos out there that show how to make a separate partition, I think that by ''allocating space'' for the other OS, you are actually creating a new drive partition.

yah its making 2 partitions, 1 for the primary os which is the ps3 menu, and the other for linux same concept for computers :)

if your in the desktop, you can go to switch to game os in the start menu

or when booting up the ps3 on the black screen with letters, you can type

ps3-boot-game-os

Can you use the ps3 controller to play the emulators or is it stricly keyboard and mouse, also is it relatively simple to switch back and forth between ps3 os and linux...sort of like a dual boot option? Yes you can use your ps3 controller with emulators as long as you downloaded the drivers for it with linux which is fairly easy, also, it must be connected with its usb cable it cant be wireless

its easy to switch back, theres a option in the start menu that says switch game os which takes you back to the ps3 menu no real hassle

well if your using a wireless network, you can configure it by going to the settings option in the start menu, by default if you clicked next it will try to connect with a wired connection, choosing the otehr option it will configure to wireless.
