Still not sold. I love the concept but the device is still a bit too primitive. I'll wait till a touchscreen/more slimmed version with a small keypad is released. Screenglare is annoying too, considering this is supposed to be a device designed entirely for long periods of reading.
Not too fussed about colour tbh, I read black and white books all the time. I can live without it. And a backlight will probably cause more eye strain.
What? you watch a review of the old kindle and say its fat? This is the OLD kindle, go to amazon and update your knowlege base, the new kindle is slimmer than an iphone
Primitive, oh the irony. Yes, because advanced technology where you can have you're entire library on a device that weighs less than 1 pound. It's a little closer to the future world of star trek than the primitive world of germanic barbarian tribes where they prefer clubs to high tech stealh bombers for weapons. But hey, I'm game, this device is most definitely primitive.
For the same price I can get a net book that is just as portable, in color, surf internet and more. Amazon is ripping us off charging more then $350 for a media to buy their didgtal books, mag. etc. Amazon should give this away or sell it for $20.
Even if it is so it is in black and white. Black and white is 20 years old technology like the T.V. 50 years ago. For $300 get a note book it reads ebook, surf internet, build in camera and all in full color.
The reason why it isn't in color is because people get eye strain when reading a book on a PC or anything that has backlighting.. The Kindle is portable, you can go on the mobile internet for free... Unlike Cellphones since you have to pay a monthly fee... You can also get free books for the Kindle, and it has a lot of storage space...
Very nice review. I am considering buying this for myself and the one question I had was if the electronic reading experience on the Kiddle compared to that of a real book. You are the only reviewer I have seen to address this issue, so thank you.
can you charge it with the cable suplied with it? or do you have 2 buy 1?

Have you never heard of fanfiction? Some of those stories are novel length. People read them all the time.

Whatever. I wouldn't pay $350 for it. To me it is a rip off. Over priced black/white junk.

@utube3888 It's cheaper than a netbook, ipod, iphone, and ipad. Plus, it's got FREE internet.

I know everyone is gonna be talking about the goodness of real books.
Which is fine for classics. But from an evironmental standpoint these would be good.Just for random books and documents one reads from day to day.
Great invention I say.

Its really good. The pages look just like a page, you can barley tell the difference.

Meh. Some books have glossy pages and can be just as annoying under certain lighted situations. :(
