Hi Mjhavok, yeah, she thinks I'm going to hell, and I think she's an antisocial homophobe. Is there no way out of this? Are we really reduced to merely throwing insults at each other? Has it really come to this? Color me optimistic, but I really can't bring myself to believe that.
Luke 6:37 "Do not judge, and you will not be judged. Do not condemn, and you will not be condemned. Forgive, and you will be forgiven.
Mjhavok, Randy has not done anything but speak kindly and decently in his videos to me. This video was so kind that I cried for a long time, for someone to respect my point of view is so very rare.
sablechicken, you know we all love randy, he's the best.
I will ask you to please not give money to people that may be playing on your fears. I know that sounds strange on youtube. But please dear, do not give your money to those who may be offering false hopes. You allready have the hope and do not need to "buy" this from someone else.
I have to disagree, Randy. This flawed. The "ONLY" reason we argue with theists "MUST" be because we see some merit in their argument? The ONLY reason? MUST be? Those are absolute terms? You see NO alternative motivation?
It's not about being "close" to their position, it's about the SCALE of the threat and its current dominance over society. Huckabee and Romney got TOO close!
When fascism starts electing Presidents, and distorting kids' education, they WILL get a video, I can assure you.
I agree. I was somewhat content in my disbelief until religion started to dominate the news and politics in the US. After being attacked by religious extremists we seem to have become more religiously extreme ourselves. Yipes, it is time to counter this trend, I think.
Wow, the great "Phill-Hellions" (as SableChicken pronounces it) has responded! Love your vids man, your one where you said you no longer wanted to live in America brought tears to my eyes. Anyrate, I was going to type out a response, but it became too long--I'll just follow up with a vid... (and the only reason I'd do that is that I see some merit in your argument.....)
I think it is always important to try to understand where someone is coming from. You are right to see the sensitive side of SableChicken and to recognize it as a positive quality. It is so easy to see things in black and white when we disagree. While I do disagree strongly with her on many issues, I think it is counterproductive (and mean) to mock her. She really believes what she says and thinks that she is spreading truth. This should at least be considered when addressing her.
Also, we should ask ourselves what we are trying to accomplish. I comment on videos like these because I find some of these views dangerous. I may not be able to change her mind but may get someone to rethink their views. Being nasty isn't likely to accomplish these goals.
I wish that I had access to a forum like this when I was questioning my beliefs. It would have helped me to see that my questions were valid and would have knocked me off the fence much sooner.
Nice soft warm video. I would disagree that atheists debate because part of them believes there could be a deity. One of the reasons I explore what it is to be an atheist is to prevent theists from creating a theocracy in which everyone is ruled by the rules of a specific religion.
I'm sorry but any abuse that sablechicken brings on to herself by ignorantly debating atheists, and evolution pales by comparison with the the abuse she feels we atheists will receive, and deserve at the hands of her imaginary "all loving" god for eternity. I'd find it ammusing if I didn't find it sickening that she has the nerve to play the victim in light of that. If she deserves any pity or sympathy it's for her ignorance, not for the abuse she takes as a result of it.
Hi TheNakedAtheist, I agree, the doctrine of eternal hell is hideous, and utterly unworthy of belief in any civilized mind. It itself is a reductio ad absurdum of any conception of God as the source of morality. But....really, there's never an excuse to be rude. We shouldn't sink to their level.
"But....really, there's never an excuse to be rude"
I don't know that I completely agree with that.
"We shouldn't sink to their level"
A few insults is hardly sinking to that level.
I think you may have a point about her seeing evolution is a threat. If she honestly believed what she says she wouldn't delete comments or block anyone, she'd take comfort in the knowlege that they would get their just deserts in the end. She should simply laugh at them as they dig their hole deeper.
Like VFX, it seems her ruse is to delete and/or block polite, constructive criticism, and then make videos like this claiming that the people she's blocked were just atheists being rude and cussing at her belligerently, and claiming it's because atheists and "secularists" are inherently without morals. I'm not disagreeing that she's probable a nice enough person (in person), who would help those in need. But her conduct on youtube seems deceptive, and in my opinion should not be commended.
I came upon a video of hers in which she asks how homosexuals could have evolved. I posted as a video response an old vid of mine which explains how homosexuals could have evolved. I asked in comments that, once she'd seen the video, she please acknowledge that her question had been answered, and that she then stop slandering millions of people she's never met. She replied that she was removing my video and blocking me...

You make excellent sense. The turkey vulture reminds me of a time when I was 5 years old. I found a baby bird that had fallen from its nest. For almost a week, I dug worms and fed them to him, but he still died. It is because we are unable to understand death that we ask questions about its ultimate meaning. I agree with you about Sable Chicken. A person can be caring and decent whether s/he is a Christian or an atheist. Kierkegaard was humane AND Christian. Stalin was a monster and an atheist.
Hi Variablast, I agree, there is very little -explicit, verbal- warm fuzzies there, but I have no doubt that if I were on the side of the road with a broken leg, she'd have stopped to help me too. Why was he so threatened when atheists started losing weight? Things that make you go "hmmmm...."
Hi variablast, yes, I wish she would read the rest of that science textbook, and thanks for calling her out when she goes off half cocked (I go off half cocked all the time as well, we all do). But yeah, like you said, just wailing on people is ungood....

Hi Ben, wow, I'm glad we agree on #2. And yeah we all wish SableChicken would give us a fairer hearing; she could and should do better on this. Perhaps I'm just a hopeless optimist, but (keeping #2 in mind....) I can't give up hope for her without giving up hope for myself...
Oh, I'd like for there to be a god, and there is basically no chance there is a god (almost 100% no chance of a personal deity, a 90% chance there is no creator god) but there still is a chance. I can't go by faith. Though I do want to end all faith because it's a destructive thing.
Why would you like there to be a God? How do you support this 90% figure and nearly 100% figure? That there is no God is itself a matter of faith, one you have. It is not proven there is no God, and all propositions are truths or beliefs. Once again, you talk in circles.
I'd like for there to be a heaven to go to. That would be nice.
The 90% and almost 100% numbers are based on observations. The chance that there is a creator deity is much higher than that of a personal deity because if there was a personal god, we'd see actual evidence of god.
Atheism is NOT based on faith, unless you want it to be a religion. Is atheism a religion? No? Then shut the fuck up about this faith thing.
I already replied to this but it didn't stay. Essentially you use faith by replying to my comment that I still exist. Why do you equate faith, with religious faith when they are not the same? The axioms of logic itself cannot be proven and are accepted on faith. Without faith you could not resolve that 1+1=2 yesterday, or that yesterday even existed. Atheism is not a religion and neither is having faith in things. I have faith you will see this message, just like you had faith I would.
Creation is impossible because time cannot begin. To begin time requires an event take place, a cause, when (a time) there is no timne. When is that? Why do you give the impossible a 10% chance and what observation did you make to come to this conclusion? It seems to me an arbitrary number on your part, without any support at all. But I am all ears. Explain how events happen at a time when time doesn't exist. That the universe is Godless is not proven true, it is believed so.
"if there was a personal god, we'd see actual evidence of god."
Evidence of God is ample... lies and falsehoods are evidence. You mistake evidence with proof. There is no proof of a God, there is mounds of evidence including bibles, testimonies and more. Learn the differences between evidence and proof, faith and truth, or faith and religious faith. As it is you just swear at people that know what you don't. You also preach to people to read books when you should take your own advice
1. I thought you showed Randy right here, a foul mouthed reply to opposition. Hysterical over reaction really and based on ignorance.
2. If time doesn't exist then time = speed/distance is false? e=mc2 is not true? This is something. Existence is proven with 1 truth about an object, and there are many for time.
3. Faith is not belief without proof, no matter how much you wish it was. Mathematics relies on belief, the axioms of logic itself. Axioms are not provable as true. Learn about axioms
You should do a little research about the topics you try to comment on. Beliefs are not provable as true or false. No belief is also true at the same time. No belief is proven true or false. If a proposition is proven true or false it is not a belief. A belief is any proposition that is not proven true or false. To say faith is belief without proof is silly, all beliefs are without proof. Faith is any strongly held belief. All of logic rests on it's axioms, which are beliefs.

LOL mistawulf thanks for salmon-swimming against the current of crap :-) Thinking about how much I appreciate your vids makes me realize--- without each other, we're already helpless critters, no matter how young and robust we are...
I think your argument is deeply flawed. Clearly someone who spends a lot of time and energy arguing an issue is passionate about it, but not necessarily for the reasons you suggest. A theist might completely dismiss atheism, but feel morally bound to save souls. Likewise an atheist may feel that religion is poisonous to society and proselytizing is a cancer. In both of these cases the debaters would be quite passionate yet lack any regard for the merits of the other side.
Hi Javier, I think that a conscious level, you are right, but.....everybody had (A) a good reason for doing something, and (B) the REAL reason for doing something. E.g., there's plenty of theists who believe I'm going to burn in hell, but really arn't trying to convince me otherwise. What motivates the ones who do? What **really** motivates people to spend endless hours making these videos? Who was Yokup really trying to convince in his fast?
No, but if you spend hours and hours trying to defeat atheistic arguments, that means that you thought those argments were threatening to your belief in God. You have to take something fairly seriously before you spend hours and hours making YouTube videos to combat it.
A person can take a position seriously and completely disagree with it if they feel a particular position poses a threat.
