I'm very surprised that know one seems to know that Emma is not singing, just lip synching to Lesley Gore. That's why it sounds so 60's, because it is!!!!
Just want to be clear that Quincy Jones did not produce California Nights. That distinction belongs to Bob Crewe, who was the producer of The Four Seasons.
I remember Lesley Gore singing this song on Batman when I was a kid. I can say I grew up at the beach (Newport) in SoCal as a teenager. What great memories. I thought it would last forever. How innocent and naive I was! Boy I won't change those memories for anything the world could offer me!
It's fabulous seeing young people enjoying the great songs of Leslie Gore--Caliafornia Nights was/is my all time fav from her work. I was about ten years old when she appeared on the Batman series singing this song.
If you can find "Sandy" by Leslie Gore--treat yourself to a listen. This song, along with "Caliafornia Nights," seems to be her least familiar to younger audiences.
Great video...great song. Lesley sang it on a Batman episode in 1966. The series was huge at the time and it made it a huge hit. Thanks for the memory!
It's hard finding the recorded version of this on this site. Thanks for posting it.The gal on the beach ain't no Lesley Gore but I don't think anyone will complain.
This is one of the great Lesley Gore (giant) hits from the late 60s. This song hit #1 in many urban markets and was on the bestseller list for over six months.
Yes, it is really Lesley Gore singing here. California Nights with the title of Lesley's album; song was also released as a single and a big hit for her. Lesley's new album, Ever Since, is awesome. Check out lesleygoredotcom.

The kid with the chair is hilarious throughout this video! The director must have a keen sense of humor. Love the song! 10+ stars!

Hey, where was this video shot. Looks like Michigan - at least Great Lakes. Emma just looks "West Michigan"

Correct on both, Quincy produced her earlier songs, but this my favorite LG song was a bob crewe "generation" production

Still and all,I don't know if ''Emma '' could pull off an appearance as Pink Pussycat, the way that Leslie Gore did.
PussyCat was utterly puuuurrrufecct......
At least in my then-adolescent mind.

And so she was! Kitties and "Robins" just don't mix. But you're right--Gore was puuuuuuurfect."

Always liked this song and imagined this is the way California Nighs would have been done in a video if videos had existed in 1967. Good job.

Totally! Plus 'Emma' is SO very pretty!!!! That, along with the gorgeous seashore setting, totally enhance the song! :)
