Do you fly Jane's F/A-18 with your TM Warthog? If so can you tell me how as I need to make a 'single virtual controller' in TARGET and don't know how.
@RAAFDUDE Hey mate, the basic cockpit of wood, steel and aluminium would've been roughly $400 total. The HOTAS, track IR, MFD and other electrical goodies probably adds up to around $1500.
@trey0189 Hey I'd love to come and build you one, would be fun to be able to make cockpits as a job. Unfortunately it would take me a long time as I'm not that great a craftsman. Seriously though there's something special about building your own perfect little place to fly jets in. It's not hard, I have no special skills.
Great job .looks great. I want to build one too. Just have a basic sim which doubles as a lot of different aircraft. Where is the military surplus store? Regards Dave B
@linlu17 Here is the URL to the 'George Taylor Stores" surplus store in Colac Victoria Australia. They also had the full canopy for a 2 seater Hornet but it was huge. I could barely fit the windscreen in my car.
@fylde456 Wow thanks mate, (and also to all the other nice people here). Honestly anyone could build one like this, I'm not a great carpenter or anything. Just need some spare time and a burning desire to have been a fighter pilot.
That's some beautiful work! I had no audio when watching, so sorry if you already answered these questions in the vid, but how does the stick's throw work out between the legs like that? Ever collide with your thighs? Also, how did you liberate it from the base plate without damaging it?
i'm just absolutely gobsmacked. I personally might have done up the cockpit electronics better myself if I had that kind of time and money, but i'm absolutely gobsmacked. Love your setup 110%.
I read that DCS are creating an F-18 Sim - Maybe Thrustmaster will also create a Classy joystick for it as well.
Nice set up.
You mentioned that you flew a hornet once [Obviously I'm impressed as you would have to be very accomplished both physically and practically before you would get anywhere near one of those puppies] so you had something to do with them. Can anyone source the parts you have acquired or is that because of your connections?
Thanks for the kind words. The Hornet sim I flew was the Boeing F/A-18F cockpit that they brought to Australia to sell the Super Hornet to us. I'm not in the military or anything like that. The windscreen is from a RAAF F/A-18. As I mention in the video it was heavily scratched when I bought it at a Military Surplus store. I managed to clean it up with wet and dry sandpaper. it still has a lot of pitting however. All other aircraft parts were just sourced from ebay.
@djlolypop thanks I have looked at these and also MFDs/screens but having worked on real jets for a few years I have decided to try and keep it as simple as possible. I like being able to just jump in and fly with as least hassle as possible. As it is programming a new sim takes a while and sometimes patches can mess things up.
Were you once a fighter pilot? If so I can tell your Australian and I'm an young Aussie myself wantning to become a f-18 pilot for the RAAF, so how do i apply and what's the best way to get in? :)
@gogogogoguck How old are you? coz if your inbetween 13 and 17 i can help you, im 17 finishing year 12, i have bben accepted into raaf cadets training, and can help you with the subjects etc.
@assmotrone43Thank you very much for replying! I'm exactly 15 and 9 months. So yeh it would be great if you could give me some advice on the subjects! Also with you being accepted into cadets training, are you a DEO or are you going to ADFA?
@gogogogoguck I am DEO, coz i couldn't be bothered with a degree, because i want to be flying early, instead of waiting 3 years for a degree, but back to the point, If your thinking about DE then it is actually harder, mostly because there is more competition, 1000 people take intrest, 200 pass the you session and 35 make it in to the course, but for me there is 22 of us (Im in 2fts flying PC-9) and people will drop out from stress etc.
@gogogogoguck and also, im not really 17, im 19 now, just wanted you to feel like we had more in common (school) but yeah, iv been flying for a while and if i remember correctly, the best subjects are English and maths, they are deffs! then science is also important, and for a fourth to be on the safe side, choose either geo or something else even remotley related to flying.
Did you follow any references or plans from a website to create your cockpit? If so what website? I don't know what the dimensions are of the hornet's cockpit, to build my own.
Prictorian here, fekkin top job fumbaga love too find the time to do something fun like that, got a CH combat stick atm, thinking about TH WH or the X65F,not sure..
Building an F/A-18 pit of my own (Legacy hornet, not super) so I'd love to talk to you about a few things. I'm in the 104th VFBS, so you can find me there (104th_Aero) or just check my youtube channel.
Great job on the pit, though! Gotta get those other switches working though. It isn't too hard.
First congratulations on your home cockpit. The fact that this very well and have built very realistic.
The warthog Thrustmaster joystick is very good, amazing.
I also I got an airplane cabin for a long time, but for civil simulation. Now I'm building the cab of A-10 warthog, and thanks to your video, you gave me a new idea.
Again say congratulations for your cockpit and your fondness for flying continue for long.
@Fumbaga no pit is every truely finished there is allways one more pice to make the emershon factor deeper. As for my MIG 15 a injury to my shuolder has delayed the finish of my pit by about 12 months (bugger) but i dont want to u-tube untill its painted and flight ready. I cant wait to be the only MIG on the block (a target rich inviroment) hell everone watching topgun wanted to be mavrick ,i wanted to be the MIGS , bad guys wear black. darth vader rules. please make more vids please
SHIT HOT man , nice cockpit better than thoes cooky cutter f16 cockpits i see all the time. nice adaptation of parts too . a th2go or eyeinfintiy triple screen would be a nice improvement but all in goood time i supose. I cant wait to show you my RUSSIAN MIG 15 cockpit , should be ready by cristmax about the same size if not bigger than yours . hopefully it wiil give your unit a run 4 its money :) . but thumbs up for your build mate
Nice setup. I have wished CH would update the look / spacing of the pedals- but it seems their narrower than perfect sizing is actually a benefit in your homepit..
@papa12213 Thanks man, it really adds to the fun. Please send me a link of pics or video of it.
