If you want to express in a formal way with a person, you use the third person singular for the verbs, instead, for the subject you use "lei" (she) and not "tu" or "lui"(you or he) ... it seems strange but is good for both males and females.

I'm italian and i think you should teach this phrases:

"L'italia è un paese di sfaticati che si fa governare da un gruppo di mafiosi".

"Molti italiani pensano che con la cucina e le belle arti puoi tirare avanti a campare 100 anni".

"L'italia un giorno affonderà nella sua mentalità retrograda e bigotta".

I think this phrases make you conscious about our country and theach the language in the same time :-)
