His tree from the ship, Funaho, continue to supply his youthful apperance and his life dispite the fact that the tree was rooted on earth soil. I don't know about the grand mother though...

Kiyone died of old age. It was likely her death from old age was a result of Kiyone having a rare genetic defect. Kiyone could have repair the defect, but she seem to choose to live a normal life. If Tenchi has other siblings, some of them have inheried Kiyone's sense of humor. Of course, Tennyo has inherit her mother's sense of humor.
