I have a question for anyone who can answer me. I am thinking of getting a conure. I spend most of the day away from home (since i'm in school), let's say from 6:20am to 3:30 - 4:00pm,so obviously I cannot give him attention during that time, but I can give attention the rest of the day up until nighttme. Is that ok?
@MasterJoker202 As someone who owns a conure, I can tell you that they are a huuuge commitment. They need a LOT of attention and a special diet that consists of more than just store-bought seed. They are incredibly loving pets and tons of fun, but they need to get out of their cage daily for at LEAST a few hours at a time or they will turn into incessant screamers or feather pluckers . They also grind their beaks when they're happy, which sounds like fingernails scraping down a chalkboard.
@MasterJoker202 To be painfully honest, if I'd known about the beak grinding, and just how loud and grating the sound can be, I would not have gotten a conure. But I've bought a white noise machine since then which has allowed me to keep my sanity AND my beloved green-cheek. :) DO get a conure if you think you can devote at least a few hours to it every single day. DON'T get a conure if you don't like cleaning up messes, spending extra money on food, or are sensitive to unpleasant sounds. ;)
@MasterJoker202 to help the bird cope with your time away, you can put large mirror close to the cage, windows, sunlight, they should be fine. If you don't mind the electricity bill, leave on the classical music radio station.
Have you had them sexed or laying eggs? Because based on the coloring that looks like Ronnie and Clyde to me :) Boys have alot of red like that unless they are red factor.
I had two but one died last winter. Im still upset about it. i thought when one died the other would too because his buddy was gone. I replaced him with a parakett thats now thinks hes a conure. they are best friends and everything seemed to work out fine.
lol oh my gosh.. i have a sun conure as well. they're so loud!! but soooo cute and sweet. when i first got him his screaming popped my ears but it doesnt anymore. he is 7 years old. i have a feeling he has done some damage to my hearing :P
@shaashiie i've had mine only for 2 days, and my haering's not very good anymore... Po, (short for potater) is a replacement for Mojave, who had a disorder, and stopped eating. she died on Christmas. i miss her... you can see her in my video.
if I got a sun conure is there a possibility it would get along with my lovebird and they'd enjoy each others company and I could let them play together?
Sun Conures eat vegetables like carrots, corn, beans, zucchini, romaine lettuce, acorn squash etc. DO NOT feed them avocado as it is poision to them.
They can also eat raw peanuts in a shell, sunflower seeds or seeds that you can feed cockatiels. But seeds should be treats. Feed a good conure food like Harrison's so they get all the vitamins and minerals that they need, Fruit and veggies should be 10% of their diet.
My Sun is giving no response to your birds' vocals in this vid. He has a lot more yellow in him, whereas your birds look more red/orange. Does it have to do with breeding? Is it possible that they no longer recognise each others calls? (Or to be honest, Conure screams?)
yep i must say for a small bird sun conures sure pack a punch! they are so strong willed and always keep you guessing lol my little Arwen bird is the ruler of the roost thats for sure haha :)
My Sun Conure, Mango absolutely LOVES this video! I can play this over and over - she never tires of it! Thank you for sharing this; your little ones are adorable! :-)
Beautiful Suns! I love the orange. My Lenore looks like yours, but her shoulders have some green flecks still. I hope they become solid yellow likes yours! Not that I'd love her any less if they don't lol.
Wow your sun conures are so cute! I have one it's name is Elliot. It doesnt squak AS loud as your but it's still pretty loud. But mine is just a baby right now.
man they loooove almonds:)

@linaeable Oh its like having a period. The eggs aren't fertile. Its just what they do to dispose of non-fertile eggs. they lay them.

@crispyunicorn and dont get a bird PERIOD if all you do is lock it up in its cage. Let it roam free.

My sun conure loves almonds too. Don't get a sunny unless you can take the noise. Mine is 8 and much quieter than these two but still noisy.
