I spent 6 years on submarines and only had one "swim call". Was in the middle of the Atlantic Ocean. Definately one experience I will never forget as it isn't everyday you get to go swimming in a pool thats over 10,000 feet deep.
@99turbosaab The oceanic strategic forces in the french navy (the only one Im sure of cause Im french) work shifts of three months so if they surface lets say.. half the trip, it'd be a six weeks immersion. Of course, with nuclear marine propulsion, they can dive as long as theres food around. Cheers from France!
nice thing about the antiechoic coating is if you trip you just bounce into the water... we did many of these in the warm Caribbean waters, at least till the sharks showed up :P -- we did have a shark watch in the bridge with an M-16. after watching Mythbusters though I now realize it wouldn't have helped :O
We had "hands to bathe" while surface transit from Cairns to Rabaul( O Class ) but a shark brought it to a halt. We then flooded Q, climed down under the casing and lay in the rushing water (12kt)
@pmarines1775 haha that's sweet dude! Yeah, I figured it was a fast attack... I'm guessing that the boomers stay pretty quiet while out in open water...
Not entirely true. The USS Michigan Gold crew did a steel beach off Molokai back in 2000. Diving off the fairwaters of a Trident is pretty daunting. We also had to rig out the jacobs ladder so we could get back on board id we didn't want to swim all the way up to the bow, where we rigged a cargo net. Drove some golf balls and did a BBQ while we were up there.
I served On the St Paul 88-92 as SK3(ss) Freeman. I am seeking any info on any crew members that were on the northpack just before desert shield/desert storm. my friends, My Brothers, we need to talk. contact me one2rock@hotmail.com
i would be scared of doing that i dont know why but ever since i first saw how big a navy sub was i was always scared of being outside of it while it was in the water same for any type of boat too
Welcome to the Caribbean mates!

@sentineloffreedom Boomers are flat topped. the silo doors are flat. boomers would not risk a surface like this either.
