  • man i loved the sound of those e units firing up great catch!

  • 1:25, Awesome shot. Very cool post, Thanx for sharing that!

  • Only thing that could improve that consist was to have E9 #949 included as well. Great video!

  • sweet!

  • not used to seeing diesels, or other engines at all, attached to this beast of a steam egine

  • nice

  • shes one sexy beast...

  • Thomas!

  • Boy! She's long, tall and handsome alright

  • The steam whistle is a beautiful sound and it makes me sad that we don't hear them everyday out there on the main lines anymore.

  • Great video and really good clarity, never get tired of seeing the 844 run thanks for sharing

  • As far as I'm concerned, the UP844 is the most awesome machine ever devised.

Btw, what is the camera here? The video is beautiful. Thanks! :)

  • Oh look 2009 hello obi ...

  • my two favorite things lol trains and planes

  • The Plane was on approach to Cheyenne Airport, there is an Air National Guard Base there. Metallicafan3113 If your asking about the plane it is Turbo Prop.

  • ok um.. could someone explain how the hell that was a salute? all it did was fly over the yard

  • @gizmo98550 Well, what were you expecting, it to wave and say hello? Lol sorry, thats just pretty much a salute for an aircraft, unless there is an aifield or and airport nearby, theres no reason the plane should be flying that low. Anyways, loved the video, great quality, and got so many clips of it starting, backing into the mainline, and even a whistle from her, great video!

  • imagine being in front of it when it lets out all the steam

  • the 'flyby' starts around 7:30 in case anyone else didn't want to wait

  • Nice vid...steve..

  • RIP Lynn. UP Steam will never quite be the same.

  • NICE

  • This is such a great video. I wish I had been there.

  • The wind turbines in the back ground are cool too!

  • They should run 844 with those F Units more often, looks more classic that way.

  • Those are E units

  • That's what I meant, I hate typos :P

  • Smoke 'em if ya got 'em.

  • Does 4-8-4 signify anything? Also, I haven't heard of any locomotive or any engine that uses recycled oil as its fuel. Do you really mean the recycled oil from our oil changes?

  • What's special about this UP844 Steamer, compared to the new Diesels? Any advantageous characteristics with Steamer over Diesels?

  • I hope the Big boys and challengers are the same way...

  • I think shes havin a rebuild, someone else will have to back me up on this... im not sure, but i know she'll be back to run

  • Why is 844 so famous?

  • BECAUSE IT IS FAMOUS!

  • I know that but WHY

  • It's the "Living Legend". HaloCE14 says it best. The only thing I'll add is that when the Steam Era came to an end and diesels took over passenger service 844 was switched to frieght and yard work. It was also used to thaw out switches when they would freeze. UP 3985 is the only Challenger in operation and has the title of the "World's Largest Operating Steam Locomotive". 3985 was restored, I forget when but I think it was in the 80s.

  • another great video skip, nowadays when i cant see it person i dial up your vids. keep up the great work and long live Reed Jackson.

  • Another great video skip!

  • Mais um vídeo maravilhoso!

    Parabéns!

    Qual é a Locomotiva diesel,numero 951?

  • Fantastic video!! But I believe you are geograghically backwards! Check your info box; Sherman hill is west of Cheyenne, the runby was at Archer hill! I'm curious why no one else noticed!

  • nice were those the gas turbines?

  • No just E9 diesel A&B units, sorry but I dont think any gas Turbines are operable today

  • @SkipW your right the are no more gas turnines the are operable

  • @SkipW diesel i think i worse than steam powered trains but idk what is ur take on it?

  • @TheLargecars Steam trains were mostly taken out of business because they were underpowered, they were very unefficient, and messy. Diesel trains should rule for at least another 50 years before electric takes over, and by then, bye-bye steam. Gabe Newell will have taken over the RR systems.

  • @niroom404 Actually steam was shown to be more powerful. The reason they fell out of favor was the cost of repair. A diesel did almost the same amount of work as a steam engine for less cost. The Railroads only had to refuel it with one power instead of the coal/wood/oil and water mixture it took to make steam. Thus railroads decided to go with something, while a little bit underpowered compared to their steam engines, to them it was the more cost effective choice thus the end of the Steam Age.

  • @SkipW so do the diesel engine do half the work or just for support?

  • @metallicafan3113 all of the gas turbines are on static display and not in operating condition, not to mention there are only two left in museums

  • @metallicafan3113 there are only two gas turbines left and sadley neither of them are in operating condition they are preserved in two different museums

  • @metallicafan3113 there are only 2 gas turbines left one is at the Illinois railway museum and the other is at Ogden Utah museum X-18 is at illinois and X-26 is at ogden utah

  • Couldn't ask for a better day Skip! Nice Video.

  • we can send a man to the moon numerous times but nothing compares to the launch of a old time steam locomotive. i'll bet those ''greenies'' are like the code word for communists i.e. green on the outside but red on the inside - are behide the movement to snuff out steam locomotives.

  • Steam loco's (as totally awesome as they are) lack one thing to be competitive in the rail arena..Tractive effort..If you look at many old steam loco videos, you will see that they are VERY prone to wheel spin, this is due to their low tractive effort.. It is not a correctable issue and is due to the construction and weight and balance of the loco..

  • I might add that I love steam as much as anyone else, but in today's market it just doesn't add up cost wise..

  • If you added up the cost of getting positive PR everywhere it rolls... its PRICELESS

  • Now that I'll agree with! :-)

  • that car really got messed up

  • No, Just A Classic Steam Cleaning !

  • haha how hot is the steam coming out?

  • About 240 - 400 degrees or so

  • @SkipW i thought it was converted to burn oil some time before this.

  • @SkipW

Does the 844 have the ability to control a diesel helper?

  • BIG awesome train friend, thx

  • Love the video. Those E9s bring back memories. Thank you

  • 844 puts them both to shame though in all matters

  • Great tribute to Reed!

  • Great video and love the C-130 and love the run by
