  • UNFORTUNATELY... someone bought this thing ;)

  • Unfortunately, you keep saying "unfortunately," which makes me want to hit something. Other than that, many thanks for the insightful documentary.

  • I had this problem. I replaced the Motherboard for $200.

    Good as new.

  • You have a nice personality!

  • "and we are now exposing.... oooh!" XD

  • If it's based on a regular AT/ATX compatible motherboard, why don't you just replace it with another one?!

  • @AlainHubert Alain - it was filmed with a Sony Betamax camera and converted to VHS-C, which was then digitized using a firewire based converter. Yes, I am wearing lipstick -- red, actually, to go with the fishnet stockings and heels, but the cam didn't pick up the true color. Having said that, I will tell you to STFU -- and go bang your 'freakin drums.

  • @AlainHubert That's your own fault innit, sitting there for 14 minutes on end, hating the video. You could've, i dunno... stopped watching it?

  • I need one repaired. Can you guys check it out for me? It does not power on. Could it be a power supply issue?

    Thanks!

  • @dreamtekeuphoric It's probably the capacitors. There are documents that show how to open that thing up -- if the tops of the caps are 'puffy' at the top, then that's the problem. I will be doing a video showing what the bad caps look like. Google the phrase 'capacitor plague' -- that will give you more info on the problem. I will be discussing a board level repair with a friend. If we can do it, we'll get back to you.

  • @adiblasi Oh lord, do I remember that plague. I was working as a deskside support rep at an IBM site. I can't remember how many motherboards we had to replace. All because some industrial spy in China, working for a capacitor manufacturer, didn't realize he had stolen only part of the formula for a competitor's electrolytic compound. That sounds like the premise for a tragically funny comedy. If only it had been fiction to begin with.

  • @adiblasi PS-- I am mere days away from acquiring my own fully functional Hartmann Neuron! God, I feel like doing a Tovol up on the rooftop, but the neighbors think I'm already strange. No sense prompting the guys in the white coats. :) :) :) :) Yeah, I have to smile four times, once out each side of my head because one smile just doesn't cover it.

  • I love this kinda videos ...

    greets from germany

  • @SebastianBoldt Hello Sebastian. I certainly appreciate my international viewers. We actually FIXED the Hartmann Neuron. That video will be posted soon, so stay tuned, and thank you!

  • here in britain its an "ALAN KEY"! different over their then.....

  • Hi Alfred, any chance of a part 2? did you ever get the Hartmann up and running again.

  • @terrytees Hi Terry. YES. There is footage for Part II. And the Neuron is indeed REPAIRED via a very good job by the mighty Adam B. You'll probably see the Orlando 2010 footage first, and this will indeed follow. Thanks for watching, and your support.

  • @adiblasi Hi Alfred, i will indeed watch the upload and would like to congratulate yourself and the mighty Adam B on your successful hack. Look forward to the Orlando footage also.

  • @adiblasi

    So... where is it?!

And... after posting @ SurroundSFX forums about this and asking for advice, the least you could have done - don´t feel offended - was leave some details on the actual parts and repair.

I am (not alone in) hoping to see the eventual "part II" where you actually post info and links, as promised...

    Thanks in advance for that!

  • @sergiommms Hello Sergio! Part II has been edited and uploaded - I hope it helps!

  • Where's the sequel??? I've been waiting for it since Dec 2009...

  • Star Trek 2! OMG!

  • when are you going to make part 2?

  • @alistairstuart2009 Part II is filmed and edited. I have to put a closing song in it. The mighty Adam B did indeed repair the Hartmann Neuron, after a motherboard and a power supply swap, and one of the biggest 'hack' jobs I've ever seen. It was actually quite brilliant. So, stay tuned!

  • @adiblasi oh sweet, i cam't wait to see it

  • 2001 A Space Odyssey? I'm thinkin' Animal House ("Thank you sir may I have another").

Ok, you guys are almost as crazy as I am so I'm linking your video to my Facebook page!

  • @KI6DKV Hey, crazy is good, and I'm glad you linked it to your Facebook page! Part II is coming out soon, and the Hartmann Neuron is indeed repaired!

  • Nice. like the new intro! It's Adam B lol make him wear the gloves.

  • Hartmann Neuron 2009:

The company disappeared, no technical support, no parts, no authorized service.

    BUT

    unique sound!

well, it seems to be very romantic story

  • Awesome video! H^3 :)

  • It could be indeed a capacitor problem, because i have seen a lot of socket 370 (your) motherboards with defective capacitors.

But again a nice video, and keep on filming.

  • lmfao i have that keyboard

  • iPhone SDK book at 3:41 !

  • @gigabit86 Your point is?

  • @Cauxidy if you watched the video then you'd notice he said that some of the younger viewers don't know how good we have it with 30 inch lcd monitors. i don't really have a specific point

    ahahahahahahahahahahahahaha!

    ~Chica~

  • @jerryschica Shhhhh

  • Nice to see youve learnt final slut alfred xD - Did your first lesson involve going "Ho Ho Ho"?

  • @chrismacguy Chris, what makes you think that this video was edited with "Final Slut" as opposed to my favorite movie editor, iMovie HD (2006)?

  • Purely the intro - because that isnt a feature of iMovie, however it is of LiveType 2 (I have Final Slut Express)

  • @chrismacguy All iMovie HD (2006) with third-party libraries. I still think it blows away iMovie 2009.

  • I am impressed! I agree - dyou think you could link some of these, as they seem really nice (I cant stand '08 or '09 either, and am sticking with '06 HD and Final Slut for the foreseable) - or at least recommend some good ones, as their the sort of thing I need to procrastinate from work over xmas xD

  • nice new intro

  • Very Very Nice ! Whilst !

  • I have looked forawrd all year for this! Cheers Al!

  • Component level repair? I wish guys good luck on that!

  • Al, do you intentionally save video clips of repair fails for HHH? I'm starting to think so... :D

  • Were the caps bulging? Whats the model of the motherboard?

  • 5000 dollar night-light. LOL :)

  • next time we see this it'll be hardware hacking IV

  • I think it's a bit too big for a paperweight, or a nightlight, but perfect for $5000 x-mas lights.

  • :O A doorstop and night light in one ? Awesome and if you can hook Adam B up by neural interface to Melody you're all set XD

  • hey Alfred u never answered my email

  • Love the classic your motherboard and friends marriage jokes!

  • OMG expired in 2007!!! That video clip has to be old. hahahaha

  • Just throw the motherboard in the oven for 10 minutes @ 385 degrees [assuming it isn't capacitors]

  • As you know I'm a huge fan of Holiday Hardware Hacking. automatic 5 stars and favorite before I even watch it.

Ever since you tweeted about this, I've been waiting to watch.

  • at 4:30 the movie 2001 was a terrible movie, the only part I liked was the part when the monkey was smashing the bones and the music came on.

Can't wait till part 2... next year lol.

  • A standard Micro-ATX motherboard...

    *laughter ensues*

Also, Alfred, I had a Dell CRT up until mid-2009. Loved it. ;)

  • Buy the motherboard off of ebay. I'm sure you can find it.

  • tis a grand old key board

  • It's kind funny how you uploaded this video today because I actually just re-watched the other two holiday hardware hacking videos today.

  • Not the way my back was feeling that night. Bending over that bed to work on the thing was aggravating my age-old back injury. It was painful just standing up...
