but i was just curious, are the books worth getting and easy to understand? because I'm only 14, and I'm working towards fashion designing and there's no pattern making classes in my town :(
There are several tutorials online for making your own dress form using either duct tape or water-activated packing tape. The latter is preferable because duct tape will gum up your pins.
@CJEChurchill These books actually BARELY cover menswear, unfortunately....I think you'd need specialized books for those, basically all of the books I've seen deal almost exclusively in womenswear.
appreciate your video! i'm trying to buy one of those expensive dress forms, would you recommend a size 2 or 4? what do design schools mostly use?? are these sizes the same as regular clothing sizes?
@juonee90 A size 2 is a good "model" size, but in my experience design schools will have a variety of sizes for you to work with! So don't worry too much about having the "right" size. And there's really no standardization of clothing sizes, which is really frustrating. A size 8 dress form might fit a modern size 8, but if you look in a book with retro measurements, you'll see that a modern 8 is like a retro 16! All brands have slightly different sizing too, I really wish there was a standard!
Ok!... I just bought the f5th and I so don't understand how to start. Its confusing me!. will you be making videos how to.. I hope you make one for basic bodice and skirt please do. Thank you
@barbarasbridalwear The next video will cover a bodice front! They are surprisingly easy with a little practice, and are easy to modify to make different styles....I can definitely discuss skirts in a separate video too, thanks for the suggestion!
hello i have been looking for informal videos on youtube that could help me in starting to design. Out of all the videos yours have been the most helpful. Thank you. But my question is to you what are some good reference books i should get to help me get started?
@akrongirl08 Wow, thank you! I'm very flattered :)
I recommend books in many of my other videos (check the info area!) but if you don't feel like wading through them, or are looking for a specific subject (like a book specifically about fashion illustration, or specifically about pattern making), feel free to drop me a message and I'll give you some personal recommendations :D
Can't wait for the next video on pattern making I've been trying to find a good instructional video on this topic for ages, and you seem to really know what you are talking about.
@arialma Thank you so much! Trust me, nearly every day I think, "I really need to do another video soon!" So I haven't forgotten :) I just need more hours in the day!
Those books are amazing; they're a really good investment. I reference them all the time, they are so, so helpful. I hope you get a lot of use out of them!

Thanks for this great series! By the way, what's the difference between a vary form ruler and a curve stick and do I need both?
