  • Sorry - but the a/c at 1:38 ist no RAF fighter, but a Yakowley Yak-9 from the V-VS (laypersons can see this on the red stars on the fuselage). The Fairey Firefly V at 3:53 comes too late for a service in WW 2. She also was no RAF but a Royal Navy a/c, like the Seafires in this video. The aircraft carrier at 9:24 is the "USS Hornet" with B-25 onboard and finally: the fighter at 9:51 is a Polish PZL P.11c. Sorry - again no RAF-a/c. The conclusion is: good pictures - wrong title. ;o)

  • 2:38 MkIX (?) Spit trying to keep up with Doodlebug (artistic licence?). What a picture! Judging by some of the other painting, getting the impression of speed is quite difficult. And you have to be able to paint a convincing cloud. Great idea 'bestjonbon'

Nerdy trivia question: How many of those paintings were box art for Airfix kits? I think the Firefly was one.

  • when did war WW3 happen?

  • WW3? I don't understand the question. Did you spot a mention of WW3 somewhere in this? Or am I being obtuse?

    Cheers, John

  • I love the fighter version of the Mosquito

  • The best WW2 war plan was the P52 Mustang. It used a Roles Royce engine with American fire power. Unstoppable if you ask me.

  • @cwood4ever the american firepower u speak of was actually relatively weak, it had no cannon!

  • It had 50 cals idiot.

  • ha which is a machine gun you tool! Spits had 20mm cannon plus either 50s or 303s! What are u one of those toutube monkeys who just comes on and spouts out whatever you feel like and then rather than learn something you just kick in with curses! You'll start attacking my grammer next! Go on I left you a spelling mistake to go nuts about!

  • I agree. The P51 was faster, tougher, more maneuverable than just about anything that flew toward the end of the war (except, of course, the German Me-262 jet -- which Hitler messed up by demanding it act as a light bomber instead of a fighter). As far as firepower goes (between .50 caliber machine guns and 20mm cannon), either one could tear a plane to pieces. The important thing was to bring your guns to bear on the other plane. That's where the P51 excelled.

  • @bestjonbon

The P-51 was faster in level flight and in a dive but the Spitfire was in fact more maneuverable and had superior rate of climb.

The P-51 was a superb escort with its outstanding range fighter while the Spit was a superb interceptor, neither could excelled at the job the other had.

  • @Eurofighter19 The P 51 was designed to solve the problems of the Spitfire. For a few years it could not. Then it was mated to the Merlin. Rolls could not keep up with demand and Packard licensed the engine and the rest is history. When P51s flew over Berlin in late 43 it is rumored that Goering told an aid that the war was lost, it would just be a matter of time.

  • The Allison engined P-51A had a decent low-altitude performance and that's why the RAF kept it operational on some reconnaissance squadrons until late 1944 but as a escort fighter, it lacked both the high-altitude performance much needed to escort strategic bombers and an adequate range which was the issue that kept the early P-47 into becoming an effective escort fighter, specially in the 1943 time frame and missions deep into Nazi Germany.

The P-51B/D would later resolve all those issues.

  • P-51D. Packard built Rolls-Royce Merlin engine. The Merlin was used in the Spitfire, Hurricane, Manchester, Lancaster, Mosquito and a few other aircraft types. A most excellent engine. The British air industry designed their planes around this engine. A work of art.

  • I don't believe the RAF ever operated the Swordfish - that was a naval aircraft. And the high-wing monoplane in the last two shots was the PZL-P11C, flown by the Polish air force with great gallantry in 1939, but so far as I know only by them. I was glad to see the red-white checker on the nose of one of the Spitfires, indicating that it was flown by a Polish pilot of the RAF.

  • @puffin02 You're right. I erred in titling this. I should have just called it British planes of WWII or some-such. Thanks for the note.

    Cheers, John

  • @puffin02 The Swordfish was operated by the Fleet Air Arm. At that time the RAF flew the aircraft in the naval squadrons. Personnel and equipment were seconded to the Royal Navy from the RAF.

  • Bloody great stuff that. Along with music better than any film thatI can recall. Great job.

    Merry Christmas from Wash, DC.

    Cheers,

    MAR, M.D.

  • @drmarosen Thanks, Doc. I appreciate that!

  • Great Video!!! Beautiful pictures and great music! Do you know what the last plane with the red and white checkered flag is?

  • nice. Whats the music? cheers..

  • I thought it was Beethoven's Egmont Overture, but I can't prove it. Lost my original recording, and my current Egmont sounds totally different. Anyway know?

  • @bestjonbon Personally I believe it is the work of Franz Schubert...Symphony n° 5, 8, or 9...can't tell for sure...

  • Actually the P51 was better than than the thunderbolt because it was faster, lighter, smaller, and had a longer range.

  • Thanks for the comment. I'll send you my new vid on the P-51.

    Cheers, John

  • Thanks for the video it was pretty awesome. Im addictted the WW2 in general but espicially the Army Air Force because tthey won the war

  • The P-51 was only a better escort

  • did you know that the Mosquito was actually made from wood and not metal. Except for the cockpit and other obvious parts.

  • Yes, plywood. And fast as the dickens.

  • RAF has the best pilots Russia has the best planes!!!!!!!!!!

  • The Spitfire was faster and turned better and used primarily for fighter attacks on the 109s and 190s while the Hurricanes, being a steadier gun platform, attacked the bombers. Plus the Hurricanes were made out of mainly wood and were easier to build, patch up and get back in the air. The Spits were metal. But the Spitfire was, in comparison, a much prettier plane with elliptical wings and definitely got all the attention. Both very good planes though obviously.

  • Yes, the Hurricane was a big success in the Battle for Britain, and seldom gets the same attention as the Spitfire. Beauty versus firepower. A lot like the American P51 over the P47 Thunderbolt. Maybe the big P47 looked bulky, but it was a heckuva ship. Thanks for commenting. Cheers, John

  • 0.37 how proud would you be at that point!

  • Back during that war? If I were British, I think I would be very proud. As it is, I'm from Texas, and we have our own air force.

    Cheers, John

  • back in the war, im american but if I was that woman on the bicycle at that point i would be proud to know they were defending me. Good vid dude!

  • Thanks, friend. Me, too!

  • Menuda Chufa , que cagarro de ke calibre tan grande dios

    !!!!!

  • The Hurricane was a great plane. I guess the Spitfire had a better p.r. man.

  • I can't recall. There were so many great artists turning out WWII air pictures. Maybe someone will come along who knows?

  • Thanks for sharing.

    Excellent photos with Great Songs

  • Glad you liked them!

  • I love Spitfire !

  • Yes, a super plane!

  • Lovely aircraft,

    Terribly war.

Let's hope this will never come again..

But i still think it will come back, there are so much people that are like him, you won't know..

  • Yeah.

The chip shop down the road from my grand parents house got bombed.

    For them that was it.

They were really upset. The nazis had gone to far, they'd bombed the chip shop!

  • Outstanding video

  • my family was bombed in ww2

my grandma is even today still scared to death if she hears a sounds that is similar to he signal horns that warned the people in ww2 for aircraft attacks

but on the other hand it was a part of the liberation from germany from the nazi-criminals.... the only ones who are realy guilty is this naziscum

  • Yes, civilians were bombed on both sides. A terrible way to run a war! Maybe we can learn a lesson from that.

  • Thanks, 07dajones. I like them, too.

    Cheers, John (bestjonbon)
