  • word up man

    this is that real shit

  • gold beat

  • I think producers bring their own twist to the DJ/beatmaking table. Dre helped introduce the G-Funk sound, while Premo is credited with the boom bap style. Other producers that deserve shine include Erick Sermon, Large Professor, Pete Rock, Easy Mo Bee and 9th Wonder. I just look to enjoy the creativity and innovation each producer brings.

  • @BSCI70 The Rza, J Dilla, Ali Shaheed, Q-Tip, DJ Scratch, 4th Disciple & Tru Master also

  • I love Dre but comparing him and Premo is like apples & oranges they're both great in thier own respective style. Dre kinda reminds me of a composer, over the years he's slipped in alot of R&B type soundscapes, while Premo is a pure beatsmith that updates the formula over time. Dre sculpted what Cali funk was/is while Dj premier has been the opitomy of what real hip hop sounds like

  • dre is a monster

    but he cant touch preemo

just everyting that preemo make is gold

  • @HipHopHead15 I agree man, dre has some sick beats. But preemo, to me, is on another level!

  • @HipHopHead15 you got to be kidding me.premier has made a lot of nice beats, but he relies waaay more heavily on sampling. dre is more of a musician. his beats are smooth, swung and drums are musical in a human way. most premier beats have these stiff swingless drum beats that now dominate hip hop. where is the swing? this track has maybe 6 layers. dre tracks usually contain somewhere between 10-20 layers. syncopation and quantization are what make a hip hop beat listenable and feelable.

  • @nakabar i dont make beats but dre will put almost the whole song he samples in a beat.preem on the other hand will sample also but hell take a piece or two out and add other elements..

  • @nakabar no offense but you sound dumb. talking about Dre's beats having swing, then immediately saying they've got quantization...but right before that saying the drums are musical, in a human way?? you're one big contradictory statement. either way, Dre takes a song he samples and doesn't do ANYTHING different to it, doesn't make it his own. he just throws some drums over someone elses' music and calls it his own beat. that's ridiculous, absurd, and cheap. Dr. Dre is a far cry from a musician.

  • @emcee4CEE From Dr. Dre [Wikipedia]: Unlike most rap producers, he tries to avoid samples as much as possible, preferring to have studio musicians re-play pieces of music he wants to use, because it allows him more flexibility to change the pieces in rhythm and tempo.[108] ...What were you saying? Learn these terms before using them. Quantization simply refers to the timing of notes in a beat. Every beat is quantized, even one played on real drums by a musician.

  • @nakabar ?? you're bringing Wikipedia into this? You've got to be kidding me...go listen to some Dre beats and then go check out some California bred soul music and see how much Dre has taken, unedited mind you. He took the entire chorus of California Love from another song lol. As for quantization being the timing of notes in a beat, that's incorrect, quantization is the alignment of beats to a bar to time it to be perfectly in sync with the metronome. A human is imperfect. Please Read More. :)

  • @emcee4CEE lol, no, there are as many signatures of quantization as there are signatures of time. if, in a 4/4 song, the drum part is quantized to 16th note triplets, then the notes will not be in perfect sync with the metronome. I don't need to "read more", as I have practical experience with this. "Reading more" is for tryhard wanks like yourself who like to pretend they know about music. As far as the sampling goes, would you care to explain how one can "make a sample their own"?

  • @nakabar you're a fucking moron. really you are. because if a beat is in 4/4 and quantized to a 16th note triplet than each triplet beat in the 16 notes that make up a bar are being played. SHUT UP IF YOU DON'T KNOW WTF YOU'RE TALKING ABOUT.

  • @emcee4CEE you're telling me that running a sample through an effect or two makes it "your own"? also, what the fuck are you even trying to prove? I never said anything to discredit sampling, simply to discredit non-musicians maing music. i don't care if dre "sampled a whole chorus, unedited" because he knows how to play keyboards and he knows how to arrange. he also knew how to make some of the smoothest beats on the west coast. so what is your point? you were wrong about quantization

  • @nakabar DR. DRE IS A NON-MUSICIAN MAKING MUSIC.

  • @nakabar You've discredited yourself so many times in this discussion that i can't take you seriously...i'm inclined to believe that this is just a joke on your part...running through an effect or two? what? you mean ACTUALLY chopping up a sample and arranging the music into your own? i gotta admit you got me man, i was sure you were serious! haha good one!

  • @emcee4CEE and aside from that you haven't said much else other than "he samples songs". you have a lot to learn about this world of music.

  • @nakabar lol people like you are funny. what exactly have you said that's so damn earth-shattering? get off your high horse and stop reading wikipedia. it CLEARLY hasn't taught you a damn thing. Shut up, stop watching MTV and GO ACTUALLY MAKE SOME MUSIC.

he doesn't only sample songs, he STEALS whole chorus'.

  • My opinion: Eminem is a great MC, he just got famous. His older albums are excellent, just like Get Rich or Die Trying, Stop hating them. Dr. Dre is a DOPE producer. How can people say he's not? Just listen to Chronic and 2001...wow! Now he's not Premo or Dilla but he deserves respect as much as they do. If you people like EPMD than you like Erick Sermon. I'm sure none of you ever dissed Erick Sermon, but he and Dre are very similar producers. They. Produce. BANGERS.

    Stop hating

  • damn son. This is amazing. Premier is the god of beats.

But where to find the instrumental??

  • well said my brotha

  • simply amazing sampling going on here...

    that piano is soooooo jazzy.

  • relax relax oooouu yeeahhh

  • this shit is so relax... i love it calms me down every time

  • i listen to this track once a day. i'm 25

  • Oh Lord!! :D

  • premier made some funky ass beats

  • This beat man!!

  • This MC has the best name ever...

  • Hell yea ... HEAVENLY

  • great!

  • man this song is DOPE!!!!!!

  • oooooo shit

  • this shit is off the chain! DJ pimo has to be the best producer/ DJ ever!

  • The 90's would suck if it weren't for Primo and Pete Rock... ehhh, and Dilla.

  • alootta other dope producers: large pro.trakmasterz,diamond d,q tip,beatnuts,showbiz,ski,marley marl,rza,salaam remi,easy mo bee,buckwild,tony dofat,..

  • cant forget about Babu, evidence, forgot the dudes name from J5, Madlib, PBW, DJ Spinna of Jigmastas, and DJ Muggs of Cypress Hill......but you're rite though schmid. Premo and Pete Rock made the Most beats in the 90's. Prolly 70% of hip hop beats came from them alone. So good call.

  • why didn't anyone mention dr.dre

  • because dr. dre is commercial/mainstream. He's the first producer that comes to mind with people who aren't really in tune with "true school" hip hop. Dr. Dre deserves credibility and was an amazing West Coast producer but there are MUCH better out there who exist. Dre is average compared to the rest....he's hip hop but he's average.

  • it's not all aobut about his beats it's about what he brought to the game he started the gangster shit with n.w.a brought us snoop brought us eminem and a shit load of other rappers.. but i'll give you the commercial point he is.

  • even premo is mainstream. He's only stronger, that's why he's stronger than Dre, nothing other reasons

  • for sure but premier only makes his songs that connects the soul and for a much higher force "God". in my opinion he is the 5th element.

  • another thing.... Average? ONLY average?

I think you are an hater or someone who think dre isnt that good for his collaborations with 50 cent and Eminem.

Dre is definitly strong. i don't think in a top 10, but certainly is sick

  • you cant say that dre is like the rest. if you will compare dre with a procuder like premier then he hits rock bottom. 50 cent and eminem is not here for guidness of what hip hop is ,they are fake. Dre have been good but since the industri does he change, while some producer maintaining the soul to the art in other word for those is " Dj Premier , Pete Rock , J Dilla, etc"

  • you said he's average.

I just said he's more than average, he's strong (i didnt say strong as Premo, Pete Rock and J Dilla....they are top 5 prods ever, Rock probably 1, but the level is the same).

I'm not licking his ass, but i'm not even underrate him just because he worked a lot with Em and 50. His 2 albums are anyway really good as beats (a little more than average, but depend wat you mean as average).

  • Comment removed

  • what about japanese/nyc producer DJ HONDA? Honda made a HUGE dent in the 90's hip hop scene....look him up for all who have forgotten.

both are cool, i'd give the edge to the original because it's, well, more original

horns and strings make anything better, i.e. Lynguistics

  • Dude I'm not sure what youre asking.

    The original record is named:

    Buckshot lefonque - Music evolution

This remixed version is also known as:

Buckshot Lefonque ft Dj premier - Music revolution

So the sample your talking about, no idea where it comes from, maybe they recorded that shit themselfs, who might know.

Ps. You should rephrase your questions

  • jeah i meant the vocal sample. Primo never records something like this ;). but thx anyhow. Of course i know the original song.

    Thanks Mr. Marsalis

  • This makes up for all the remixes that suck.

  • If you think that Preemo EVER came with a remixed that "sucked", then I have to understand that all music, including hip hop, is opinion based, but I have to say that your understanding of hip hop cant be that high.

  • did I say all the PREMO remixes that suck? no.

  • sick .. just sick .... wheres hiphop now ... WANNA HAVE IT BACK :_'(

  • what album/mixtape is this on?
