Hey lol! I had that same problem! I think I am going to plug it with hot glue all around. I just wish there was a way I could still take it apart afterward...
It's true that the cover to spindle base is a more-or-less permanent glue job. It's best to test as much as possible first, before the glue decision! I've tried using an o-ring seal and rubber gaskets, but it didn't work so well! (i.e. I got real wet...;)
You're right...I haven't had a beaver for a while.
Seriously, I did invent a backpack gas-powered device for girdling trees, called the "L'il Beaver'. It has a chainsaw chain wrapped around a cone as the cutting head and takes big chunks out of tree bark to kill weed trees.
Not half as much fun as running a magnetically-attached Skilsaw blade powered by compressed air and CD's on a CD spindle, though. (See my PumpkinCutter video ;)
Just cause it's fun to play with a turbine and rotating magnetic fields. I've had a Tesla CD Turbine in my sink for 4 months, used it almost every day and love it. I teach students with it and amaze engineers. It's won contests and been in magazines. Not too bad for a bunch of CD's and magnets!
Check out the later SinkScience movies for more info, or check out the CD Turbine web site at cdturbine(dot)com.
Everyone's interested in my fingers. Gees, I have more important body parts! If the blade separated from the magnetic coupling at speed it wouldn't stop at fingers. However, the blade video is mostly for effect; The turbine and magnetic coupler with blade worked way better than expected and I managed to film it. Oh, and lived to tell the tale! Doesn't mean you will, so don't try it.

The exhaust is through the drilled-out centre post of the CD spindle.
