Ah! The Enz back when they were wonderful. Saw them live a few times in those early days. Simply superb. They remain one of the best bands I ever saw.
honas 21 McCartney??? WTF where you listening to. This band where so far ahead of that poncing musical non entity.....ah why bother...Split Enz where just great
I enjoy the early Enz before they got influenced by the british new wave. The early stuff I perceive as more personal as from the new wave stuff was more mainstream back then.
"I went out to see if i could live forgotten days. Well that was my mistake, was my mis.. , that was my mistake, was my mis... , that was my mistake ..."
From what I recall Noel is the percussionist, got dragged into drums didn't enjoy it and went back to the percussion, including playing some awesome spoons and designing the clothes to this very day when ever they get together
in nz there was no other band that was like split enz.. they were unique there and are probably nz's most loved band and a nz icon. neil finn of course went on to form crowded house and enjoyed more success internationally
As a resident of the times (and regular watcher of Countdown) I remember thinking that the bands who were Kiwi had more quirky/original videos than the Oz bands. I always thought it was because they had better weed across the water.
1977... was it that Glam Rock lasted longer in the Southern Hemisphere than it did in the North, or is this an art rock kind of look. In other words, were there other bands in NZ who looked like Split Enz? Or were they unique down there?
Yeah good point about the makeup ;) I love Split Enz. I don't think enough people "get" the early days of Split Enz but I love their early music and love the videos!
LOL well I don't think the Maybelline people were there that day. But I really think it was something in the day, well scary thought it was in my day, love the Band.
Sorry I meant to hit the other button, for everyone looking, novalee66,this was a thumbs up....lol!I love Split Enz, especially because they made my father freak out! AH those were the days!
deep down we do love you guys,ur our neighbours for fucks sake(even though we kick your arse in all sports..lol),this song is pretty sweet, perfect song to end a set with
Working at a large record chain in 1980 Tulsa, of all places, we played their records- our choice! I still can't get over how staid little NZ could produce such outrageous, uninhibited (straight!) musician-artists. To have NZ spawn the likes of the Finn Bros. -not to slight all the other Enz members- was to put it on the map for sure, here in the States! ...And, I could watch Tim's face alone in this one & be entertained (while sneaking peeks at Neil)!
Bravo! Aaaah, thank you JimEAPG for the post. Yes indeed Split Enz was definitely ahead of their time. I was always amazed that they never caught on that much in the states as they were phenomenal! So great to see a vid from the early days :). Thanks again!
Split Enz were geniuses with the music but then they did some boring clips with them and this is one of them, I See Red is the other. All dressed up but just bloody standing there. Great songs deserve great video clips. Especially such idiosyncratic brilliance as Split Enz had.
Each to his own... I actually like those two videos because they're not too weird. But the songs themselves are great, and hey... the band hasn't done too badly after all these years. And thanks to Youtube, we can all enjoy. Yay!!!
Yeah it might seem like now but music clips have come a long way. I remember when this came out around 1972 it was the weirdest most interesting thing we had seen
Haha, this video is quite funny, i liked the bit when Eddie Rayner is about to turn the page of his music and he falls off (before the camera starts tilting to the side) and i love Malcoms facial expressions
I find it funny in the early days that Tim Finn always reminded me of a young Granpa Munster. They broke up before was born but I beleave they are bigest favourites and this is why.
Wow... I've been curious for years about early Enz. Us 'mericans have a hard time finding this stuff. Having heard so much about the theatricality of their early years, it's great to finally see it. So different from the '80s Enz I know. Thanks so much for posting this!
no mistake asha. The enz are fantastic. esp their early stuff like this one. Was lucky enough to see them in concert in portsmouth during the 70's. Also have an early 12 inch single of theirs with a track called crosswords but i cant remember the other track. its in the loft somewhere so will have to dig it out. Carry on with being frenz of the enz!
i have crosswords, you can buy it off itunes if your looking for it, thats if your australian or new zealander, i love them so much, im too young to have seen them back then, i've only just got into them.
Brilliant!! never saw a video of them. Now lookin for bold as brass! Dizrythmia was and is one of my all time favorites. greeting from Harlingen ,Holland. Lody
Damn! This was a favorite band when I was like 10. Genius pop music although the outfits are a bit scary. Sort of a dayglow 'Carnival Of Souls' groove.
