  • I bought this album when it first came out. Was a Styx fan in the late 70's and this was the last album of theirs that I bought.

  • The album is a theme/sequel concept. A looking back of yesteryear's roaring 20's and of course it's stories unfolding-The Best Of Times-and the final chapter coming to it's end-A.D. 1958. One of the very best musical compostitions to have come out. Was at the concert for their Paradise Theatre Tour in 1981. Awesome! Anyone else at any of their concerts that year? :-) Cheers everyone!

  • This song sounds ALOT like "best of times" by Styx in the beginning, does anyone else notice that?

  • this is a great album i agree! i enjoyed kilroy was here also.

  • MAH FAV SONG EVA

  • Great album!!!

  • Hey, he said Nasa and Navy! Amen

  • @hideaway33 What, what, say what? Nasa...Navy?!?

  • classic 80's!

  • @Zooroonies Yes Brother! Classic 80's! Man oh man! If we could but go back in time and do it all over again, or have that classic 80's rockville somewhere! Man that'd be a great project!

  • @daonfpe if only time travel was possible :(

  • I didn't like Styx at first. I loved "Renegade" and their older songs. My mom urged me to listen to "Babe" and "Suite madame Blue" so I re listened to EVERY Styx song and realized I do like them. This is one of my favorite albums of theirs.

  • @kingbuggie It's a good band, right up there withe best! Sooo whatcha ya doing tonight..... big shot crack pot.... knowing that we can't lose..... rocking the paradise!

  • @kingbuggie You obviously have excellent taste in music! Now, have you ever heard Genesis' Selling England By The Pound? ;-)

  • What cha doin tonight?

  • @mimosf Have you heard the world's gone crazy!

  • song is awesome, band is awesome, but this song gets really bad at 4:48

  • is styx satanic?

  • @auntjennifer100 The Styx is a river in Greek mythology which marks the boundary between the living world and the underworld where the dead go when they pass on. So it has some sort of satanic grounding if you like, but only insofar as it's the boundary of Hades (the underworld).

  • When dogs fly- THAT'S when I'll get married!

  • I fucking love how this whole album resembles musical theatre. It's fucking awesome.

  • Always thought this was a great tune that should have been a hit. Instead, we get "The Best of Times" played to death on classic rock stations. :) This was an awesome tour as well.

  • OK where is the truly GREAT sound of this album nowadays? I'm tired of the dumbing down of rock musics sound today, it is all stagnant with NO highs or lows! Youngsters are "totally" gettin cheated!!!

  • Big Shots, Crack pots Bendin' the rules!

  • DENNIS DEYOUNG!!!! Dennis does the vocal+they were written by him, Music written by Tommy Shaw!

  • I have a collectible 45 that has a holographic image on the back side of the album (no label on the back). And for those of who are interested you might want to know that the story this album tells is continued with Kilroy Was Here(Mr. Roboto)

  • 150th like! Go me! One of my favorite STYX songs... Jus' saying...

  • Havin' WAAAY too much fun readin' all these comments! Let me just say this: Paradise theater was the last great album of the greatest time of my life; A few months later, I'd be married to my first, worst wife and wishin' I'd joined the buds on that fabled road trip to SoCal instead. Great times, great memories. Thank you for that.

  • OMG this brings me back to being a kid....good shit.......

And Tommy Shaw on the guitar..SICK

  • I love all the DeYoung era Styx, but this was their most mature offering.

  • BTW - This is def. one my favs from them!! Awesome album from an awesome band!! Dennis DeYoung is just brillant!!

  • Just bought this album on vinyl yesterday!

  • this used to be one of my favourite albums. thanks for post it.

  • Wow, I forgot about this gem of an album! Thanks for posting!

  • Anyone notice the album cover of Paradise Theater being similar to Rush's Moving Pictures cover?

  • @Nascarfan880 Not me, and im a fairly large Rush fan.

  • @Nascarfan880 not exactly me either. I is one of the most beautiful album cover's ever though. It just looks delicious for some reason.

  • @Nascarfan880

Yes, but technically The Paradise Theatre album was released a month before Rush's.

  • @MercurysWoman

oh, you mean a sequel to the ballad the best of times?

  • this was first album i ever bought, and i loved the watercolor etching it had on the LP

  • At about 3:36, someone yells "Go Sparky go!"

    Who's Sparky?

  • @proudlyrushian On the back of this album, it shows the back of the Paradise Theater instead of the front, and there is a sign that says "Sparky the Flying Dog" that is what Dennis is referring to when he yells "Go Sparky Go"

  • @StyxFan93 He also refers to this at the beginning when he says 'As sure as dogs can fly'

  • @StyxFan93 Neat! Thanks. (:

  • @StyxFan93 I always thought Dennis was yelling "Let's f*cking go!" but after listening closely I can hear "Go Sparky Go!"

  • @StyxFan93 Not to argue, but the back of the album is not the back of the Paradise. It is the theater in it's lasert days and says "Temporarily Closed"

This was one of my favorite albums as a kid.

  • @dravenousone ah you are correct, that was my mistake, thanks for pointing that out!

  • @proudlyrushian

"Sparky" was also Tommy's nick name for this album.

  • @proudlyrushian Weeeeeeee Sparky!!

  • @proudlyrushian The guy in the studio who lit up a doobie.

  • @proudlyrushian Dennis DeYoung has said at a concert that during this tour that Sparky was him,,Sparky was a name he used when he signed into hotels back in those days.

  • great track from the lads! loved this album!

  • This is song is perfect for these times, with Obama weakening this nation day by day, we need to rise up and take back this country back

  • @TheSPACECOWBOY68 I can't believe some idiot uses this song to make a bullshit political statement. Get a life.

  • @TheSPACECOWBOY68 Somehow I doubt any of the members of Styx are teabaggers.

  • @TheSPACECOWBOY68 I Don't care what anyone says - I agree with you 100%!!! He is destroying this country from within!!

  • All time great jam

  • A really great Album and a great Song! I have the special Edition on Vinyl, AWESOME!

  • I've been listening to this song since I was like three, it's awesome!
