Blaming external factors for black children's non-achivement in school is neither helpful nor reflective of true reasons. I know lots of people from poor family and poor school who excels in education and in life. My own family was dirt poor and I went to a very poor school back in my home country but I am better educated and do better in life than most Americans.
@yakmanok What are the true reasons? If you are better educated than most Americans than, "Why are you over here?" I think your comments are arrogant and disrespectful to a country who granted you citizenship. A person who is truly educated can go back to their country and contribute to the advancement of their "Homeland."
White teachers have been cheating for years to help white students past these standardized tests. Blacks teachers joined them later, cheating too. They ALL cheat! We're kidding ourselves if we think they don't. One day, it will all come out in the light.
See we African-Americans buy into the ploy... There is no achievement gap between White and Blacks. The AG exists between an excellent score and a marginal score, irrespective of what ethnic group achieves it. What do we care if African-Americans catch up with whites becuase they start lagging Asians? Should that make us feel better?
The home and school are two very important aspects that students have. Teachers need to always have high expectations for their students in order to delivery quality instruction. Teachers should never look at a student's ecomomic status to determine how well they will learn. Teachers need to know their students and build a relationship with them. Family is very important in the learning process as well. Parents need to support their children and encourage them to do their best. Great video!
How do we emulate KIPP that helps 89% of their low income minority students go on to graduate and attend college compared to the 20% national average??
There is high expectations; whole group instruction that is rigorous and engaging; yes, and repetitive practice that help children learn by memorizing key concepts.
Where is our common sense? KIPP requires parents and students to be dedicated and focused to their learning. Who is duplicating this model that works?
Simple but yet entertaining and engaging..

repetitive practice for memorization is not good. better teach them how to organize information and facilitate recall.

Why did she ignore the racial IQ gap that is consistent on a wordwide basis.
And why did she ignore the highest IQ and best test taking group in america; Asians?

Donna Ford, Ph.D and Gil Whiting, Ph.D. are outstabding advocates for minority students. The Scholar Idenity Institute is a outstanding program!
Keep up the outstanding work! There are many more Barack Obama's out there.
