@yort002 - these are not softpoint bullets. the tips are painted to indicate they are armor piercing incendiary. Geneva Convention deals with POW's, 1899 Hague Convention - Declaration III deals with expanding bullets. The US didn't sign the Declaration, but we follow it.

@nprieto2503 - I'm very happy with mine (not a barrett) and it's cheaper so you can spend money on proper optics which will cost another $1800. mine is lighter, shorter and easier to carry, plus it's easy to shoot from the shoulder. many of the other options out there are a better fit than the barrett, but it depends on what you wish to do with it in the end

@golfer15963 - I would MUCH MUCH rather get shot with a 308 than a 69 cal black powder. the velocities are MUCH higher than you think for black powder. remember that black powder is more dangerous than smokeless powder. as for the AP part, it has the ability to shoot through a steel plate at close range (the barrel is not as long an an M2, so less performance) but a reg. rifle shooting ball ammo can go through steel plate. the diff. is 50 cal isaround 700 grains while 30.06 is 150 grain.
@weaponeer I do agree there is nothing wrong with owning that and people should have the right too, but even big game, isnt the .50 BMG is over kill for animals in North America. A .30-06 or .300 Win Mag would be more practical?

@weaponeer They make 20x110mm Hispano rounds. as opposed to the 12.7x99mm .50 cal round. A .50 cal is not 50 mm. And the 20's aren't sold in the U.S. last I checked. You can get them from Russia, China, or Africa without to much trouble. I've never heard of DD's on 20's going high priced with $200 tax, where are your sources? O_o But if your willing to buy 20's expect to pay in U.S. money.

You can purchase a new Bolt action magazine fed 20mm for $11,500 (not including tax etc), and you can even buy a suppressor for it for $3200. the maker is Anzio Ironworks in St. Petersburg, FL. You can also buy used Lahti L-39 Finnish 20 mm anti-tank rifles from WWII and they fire the 20x138mmB Long Solothurn cartridge. and I said .50 (as in half inch) and .729 not 50mm.
the only API rounds Ive seen in various calibers have black tip with red band just below. also what country are they from. i only say and ask this because most round I fire with silver tips are just plane Jane

Pilots are found drunk showing up to work or flying. you cannot regulate it in any way, it's like banning guns in schools, but kids still get shot and killed by those who will not follow the rules. kids get beer and it's regulated. it does not work

Don't watch TV and News to find out what is legal or not, they way over dramatize the abilities of weapons and ammo including the 50 BMG due to an anti gun agenda from the Liberals. But in the real world such weapons and typically not banned and neither is the ammo. Calif don't count (nuts) but they banned the Tracer ammo due to the danger of fires and not the danger of the ammo. other places don't have that issue. it will not shoot down planes, buildings or states

@awsome5ful - actually nothing at all. it take a firing pin to set one off. The primers are also very hard, so sometimes it takes two tries to set them off with a rifle.

@fuge805 You can buy ammo boxes from dozens of websites. The .308 and .50 are the most common (.308 is somewhat smaller), and they usually run $5-10.
A lot of people stock up on them to store all their ammo, whether rifle or pistol. They're simple and cheap.

@daantjebest - actually a 12 GA slug is bigger than a 50 BMG. a 50 is .50, while a 12 ga slug is .729 but power and size you would need a 20mm and they sell new 20mm bolt actions, but it's a DD so it's expensive and has the $200 tax.

@weaponeer They make 20x110mm Hispano rounds. as opposed to the 12.7x99mm .50 cal round. A .50 cal is not 50 mm. And the 20's aren't sold in the U.S. last I checked. You can get them from Russia, China, or Africa without to much trouble. I've never heard of DD's on 20's going high priced with $200 tax, where are your sources? O_o But if your willing to buy 20's expect to pay in U.S. money.

@PatronSaint210 not the 20x110mm Hispano, the 20×102mm Vulcan, and yes, 20mm's are sold in the US. You can purchase a new Bolt action magazine fed 20mm for $11,500 (not including tax etc), and you can even buy a suppressor for it for $3200. the maker is Anzio Ironworks in St. Petersburg, FL. You can also buy used Lahti L-39 Finnish 20 mm anti-tank rifles from WWII and they fire the 20x138mmB Long Solothurn cartridge. and I said .50 (as in half inch) and .729 not 50mm.
