Man, that much ash would kill my septic tank (it is a powerful caustic). I use less; 2 cups and place it in a white sock (I steal, well "borrow" one from my sister) so it doesn't need so much straining and biol it for 6 hours or more.

Mmmmm yummm. I love corn soup. I'm lucky to start with parboiled frozen corn tho.

Ew. No offense but Ive never had corn coup with ash in it?... Everything in the recipe minus the ash is MY traditional corn soup.
