  • While serving in the Navy, I heard this song for the first time and all of a sudden I fell in love with this beautiful song. Now I'm 47, twenty years passed really quick in my life.

  • This sure is a good song. First version I recall was by Roy Clark.

  • i prefer roy clark cover

  • Written by Charles Aznavour and Georges Garvarentz, released in 1961 and originally called 'Hier Encore'!!!

  • Nice song, touching deeply a heart

  • A song that reminds us that this life is all about Love and Forgiveness.

  • This song is so touching! HUHUHU : (

  • Nice and the best country

  • Love this version immensely!! Thanks for sharing!!

  • age doesn't matter...... how you live your life is...... spend our time as if it is the final second of living... enjoy life to the fullest every millisecond of it..... be happy : > )

  • Thank you. for the lyric, fond memories......in those day

  • I'm crawling to 50........and I'm drawn to Ray Price....when I was used to AC/DC......

  • I'm fourteen and crying. Dammit, I shouldn't be feeling this yet...

  • @ZovestaDark But you feel..........

  • Thanks Dogbig02. I have already heard this song in spanish but I really prefer it in english and sung by Eddie Arnold. As you say when we get older we feel the meaning and tears appear.

  • Ironically, I first heard this song in high school just after it's release in 1961, by Charles Aznavour, and liked the music but didn't grasp the meaning. A few years later, I was on the street alone in Okinawa just returning from Viet Nam, and heard the Roy Clark version coming from a clothing store as I passed by when the lyrics really grabbed me and I had to stop and listen. I feel the meaning now even more than I ever did before ........ when I was young. Thank-you for letting me share .....

  • Each time I hear this song with these beautiful lyrics it really make me feel sad and tears appear in my eyes. Every day when I sit in front my computer I have to hear it. Excuse meif I make some mistakes. I am from Spain.

  • @2410mencia If I can mention it, I believe the Spanish title is Ayer Au'n ?

  • Tears do come easier as we age, life on this planet is too short, too quick, too sad.

  • Damn ! YouTube must have a loose cog, repeating so many times after imposing a 500 character limit. Yesterday, when I was young and still singing Kareoki at my favorite club, this was kinda like my signature song. The "Liverpool Beatles" also had a similar song that was one of their best.

  • @CaptRhett1 I think the problem of appearing 3 times my comment its mine. I clic sometimes too fast. The Moerster wrote me this song was sung in Spanish by an argentinian cinger. I heard it but I prefer much more sung in english by Eddie Arnold. I have some CD from Ray Price . Beautiful songs also. Carmen

  • This is one of my favourite song when I was young also. I have heard it also in French by Charles Aznavour and it is also beautiful, but I prefer it in English. I am from Spain, and I have not heard it in Spanish. Carmen

  • @2410mencia Carmen, there is a song to this tune called "Ayer Aun." Youtube has a version by the Argentine singer Carlos Javier Beltran. My Spanish isn't good enough to tell how close the lyrics are though I know the title is Yesterday Still...or Yesterday Yet.

  • There's a couple mistakes in the lyrics, but I guess it doesn't matter

  • Life is something that if you are lucky you will be able to look back on and remember the good things you did and the good things that happened to you along the way. Be careful because all to often the not so good things will be the ones that stick in your mind. just remember nothing in the past can be changed so take care along the way so you will have good things to remember.

Tom Also I think Eddy Arnold was one of the best singers of our time.

  • Ah, sweet bird of youth, how swiftly do you take flight !

  • I am 26 (with 50 years experience), I have a few words of advice (wisdom?) for the youngsters who may read this. Slow down and enjoy your youth, it won't last forever. One morning, somewhere in the too soon, future, you'll look at your reflection in the mirror while you're shaving and you'll wonder, "Who is that old grey-haired man with the receding hairline?" Then you'll realize it's you. Growing old is no job for a coward ! Make good memories, NOW !

  • @CaptRhett1 I am a few years younger than you but with 50 years experience. Your comment is the reality of life. I think we realize when we get older. I think it is a beautiful song and as beautiful voice. Was Eddy Arnold a country singer? I am from Spain and do not know many American singers. Carmen

  • @2410mencia ,Hello Carmen, Sorry it's taken so long to get back to you, time seems to fly by these days. Yes, Eddy Arnold was one of the premier country singers of his time, but most of the songs he sang were more mellow than the usual country music, and bears little resemblance to the country music of today, I believe his repertoire is more in line with Slim Whitman and Willie Nelson.

His repertoire was more mellow than most country music. More like Slim Whitman or Willie Nelson. They are both considered "country", but excell at a wide variety of music, I think you may also like "Desperados Waiting for a Train" by Willie.

  • Deeply , I am 33 its cried me ??????

    Oh, My God

  • wish i had the insight of these words WONDERFUL

  • WOW!!THIS IS ME NOW

  • i love this song...awesome :)

  • Who Wrote this song and when???? I hear this and I hear Roy Clark, Great Song. Thank you for posting this.

  • Just to make the record clear.

This song was written and sang by the great Charles Aznavour.

If you google his name ,you'll see many more songs of this calibre, from him

  • The Best, THe Best, THE BEST!

EDDY conveys the emotion more than any other artists singing this song...tears in my eyes...

  • it's a beautiful song. love it. A french signer sing this song in french. his name is charles aznavours and the title is hier encore. very goos song also :)

  • i think about sad days when i listen to that song but still it brings me close to tears

  • I'm 59 and every time I hear this song I think of my father and his life. He served in Europe for all of WW II. Every day for him was gravy after that. Brings me to tears thinking of my wasted days and how I still lean on him even though he's gone.

  • ...but when you think about it, this is the story of everyones youth. When you get older you look back and see all the mistakes you made. I love this song, because as Plato or whoever once said, "An unexamined life is not worth living."

  • great song....stripes5150 you are sooooooo right..

  • Yeah, you're right! very nice and great song. I love it!!!

  • this song makes me think, actually.. the comments do.. I didn't know so many 70 year olds were youtubers :D

  • i am 60 and believe me it got here faster than i ever imagined

  • @eganza I think that too

Im just 24 years old but u know it touched me deeply

    thx for commenting

  • @linclon86 Lucky for you that you have time to make it not come true! Thanks for uploading this haunting warning.

  • @eganza I'm 65 and getting old just wasn't going to happen! Well, guess what?

  • At 2min 24-27 seconds it says, and never saw the worst and the emtiness beyond.

It is soug by eddie as, and never saw the "waste" and emptiness beyond.

    Please correct

    Joeyshusband

Thank you for the video it is a keeper.

  • It's Eddy, not Eddie.

  • @railgeek404 omm ok ,, sorry for that mistake

  • @railgeek404 It's been written written both ways for years -on a lot of the old audio tapes it was Eddie

  • @railgeek404 . But really, Edward or Teddy!"

  • Always amazed at what a great voice Eddie Arnold had. He is one of my Mom's favorites, but I always just considered him a "cowboy" singer - great song - thanks!

  • It describes my life too, Julia.

  • Thats so sad. I need a smoke now, thats gonna be me if i dont change.

  • wonderlul! what a good lesson on how to live life and to its fullest and with good morals. i wish i knew this when i was young. thanks for letting me listen.

  • Actually, I'm not sure of the first person to record it. Certainly in the US, Roy Clark had a major league hit with this song, this wonderful song.

If you go to Charles Aznavour's version, with his thick French accent...you'll be amazed. Mr. Aznavour wrote it--and really owns it...WOW...these words are haunting aren't they?

    Larry

  • makes me cry seems like he's singing my whole life

  • Youth is so sweet

  • BRAVO COMPLIMENTS FOR THIS BEAUTIFUL SONG

  • This is a great song, was my father favorite. I reflect on life everytime I hear it. Eddy Arnold version is nice, but Roy Clark takes it home.

  • Where can I find a copy of:

    HORSE IN STRIPED PAJAMAS

As sung by: Eddy Arnold and Daughter Joanne

  • I love this song so true...This is the favorite song of my man Tommy i love him..

  • Magnificent!

  • Smooth as silk!

    rip

  • who wrote this song? great lyrics!!

  • @lisabob22 charles aznavour

  • The story of my life.....David

  • wayward pleasures

  • how true

  • I wish......I were30 years younger ( : D

  • This is a singers song and the emotion that run through this song are what people should listen to with heart and mind

  • Awesome presentation, You have to just wonder what the song writer had in mind when this was written....Deep Lyrics and a wonderful singer......Thanks for posting!!

    Jerry.....Lebanon,Tn.

  • OMG!! So true so true I'm almost 67 and I wish I had a time machine !!! These young people better listen to us old timers because we were young not so long ago!!!! This is one of my favorites even this big ol' man cries nearly every time I hear it Eddie and Roy are almost equally talented on this song !!! Thank you!!!! TenStarsplus !!!!! I'm crying while I type this!!!!

  • thank you

    that means alot to me

I want an answer of this question

why god gives us the life ??

  • @linclon86 the answer to that question is found in the bible.... the KJV 1611 version... the others are so butchered up I can't vouch for them. We were created to praise, honor and glorify God our creator.

  • @linclon86 Ancient belief systems taught that when God created the universe into the 3rd dimension, He had an artist's love for His creation, but He was not of this dimension; He caused to be creatures on the Earth, including Man, so He could experience His creation through our emotions and senses. And see it from a billion different points of view. The Ancients held that we are stewards of God's creation, responsible for the Earth- all of it. And for each other- every one. Hope that helps.

  • @BigDuckKetterer todays youngsters will listen about as intently as you wouldn't have... yesterday. They don't wanna hear it, just like like I sure didn't wanna hear some old fart lecturing and reminiscing.

  • @BigDuckKetterer Thanks, I'm 23 and yes, I can still roughly understand what this song is about.... :( Good luck,...

  • @BigDuckKetterer OMG!!!!! so true we"re the same this song touched my heart to the core!!!! I share your wonderful feelings thanks for your great message!!! GOD BLESS YOU!!!!

  • @BigDuckKetterer

I know what you man...I am 77 and think much younger....that even makes it harder to listen to this song...It was just yesterday, Right?

  • I'm 65 and glad to have made it this far. I don't remembrer a world without Eddy. Whrn I was very small and before TV Saturday night was Hil Billy night with the Riders of the Purple , the louisiana Hay Rride, and of course the Grand Old Uproar. Thursday my Mom made us listen to the longhair music on the Bell Telephone Hour and The Firestone hour.

  • glen campbell's version is quite good

  • Is it horrible because I tells the truth about life, which most people don't fully comprehend?

  • Maybe you dont understand what its all about ..

  • When I first saw this video, some few weeks ago, tears went down my cheek.

  • yes- as my aunt mary said with tears "its About regret honey"

  • As they say youth is wasted on the young! anyone 40 and over will confirm lol

  • I confirm! I am 13.

  • lol , your ahead of your time an exception to the rule then.

  • Thanks. I want to sing this, but my voice(sop.) will not show the pain and soul as much as these people.

  • Is the original singer of this song Roy Clark?

  • yes , thats right

  • No he is not. It's Charles Aznavour.

  • Charles Aznavour is the author of that song but Roy Clark may be the best at interpreting it.

  • The original singer is Charles Aznavour who made that song first in French in the the early 60s. It was later remade in English and interpreted by some of the greatest. Roy Clark is my favorite.

  • @ICESK8TE:

In my research, It seems it was first recorded by Eddy Arnold in 1967. Then in 1969 by Roy Clark, Boots Randolph, Mel Torme, and Charles Aznavour.

  • This is the first time I've heard this version. He does a nice job also.I got this the first time on cassette, with Roy Clark& now I got the same CD as well

.I like Eddy Arnold's music. He was one of my mom's favorite singers.

  • I'm not depressed...I just remember my dad singing lots of eddy arnold songs...this was just one of them. He's 90 now and we had to put him in a home. i visited him one day and he said....it won't be long before you are where i am right now....well, he was right...it wasn't that long ago he was my age. this song hits the nail on the head...i never listened to it like this when i was young and he sang it. thanks for your kind words.

  • @stripes5150 thanks alot for ur comment .. that mean alot to me ..

    have a nice listening

  • I wish I'd know then what I know now...I'd have been a better son...a better boyfriend...a better friend...life is fucked....you just start to learn how to live properly and it's time to go. I'm 36 and feel like I'm old as fuck....Nothing is fun anymore because the next thing you know...we'll be on our deathbed. What's the point. Just keep going day to day till it's our time.

  • umm.. its not going that way stripes

    I wanna tell u something

simply you are not old as you think

you are just 36 . the period of youth is from (20 till 50) so u are not old ok

the other thing is that the youth of a person is not measured by his or her age

its by your acting in life

I wish u change ur point of view about ur life

Indeed. u only have just one life ,only one

so to be or not to be ..if u didnt like ur life so try to change it & make it better ..be optimistic & practical

  • @stripes5150 IF THIS IS HOW YOU FEEL AT 36 . WHAT WILL YOU FEEL KIKE AT 71 ? I BURNED THE CANDLE AT BOTH ENDS ,HAD 3 HEART ATTACKS AND 3 WAY BY-PASS . I LOVE MY WIFE OF 50 YRS AND ENJOY MY GRANDKIDS ALSO GREAT GRANDKIDS LIVE LIFE ONE DAY AT A TIME.ONLY OTHER CHOISE YOU GOT IS GO IN A CORNER AND BLOW YOUR F***N BRAINS OUT.

  • @grandpopful I'm 23 and feel the same way, sorry to say

  • @solangesand I TOLD MY KIDS AND GRAND KIDS TO THINK BEFORE THET ACT . FOR EVERY ACTION THERE IS AN EQUAL AND OPPOSIT REACTION . WHAT YOU DO MAY COME BACK AND BIRE YOU IN THE BUTT

  • @grandpopful No truer words were ever spoken. Amen to that!!!

  • lol.. you are so funny ... really thats a very cute comment ...lol

  • you are so welcome .. its my fav. song at all

  • Just a correction: in the song its not "wild" pleasures, its "wayward" pleasures. Cheers, good tune. He's a beautiful poet.

  • you are right ,. but If I removed it & rewrite it again so many ppl won't enjoy it & it will be deleted from the fav. lists if they added it ..

you know after I posted it I wanted to correct some words & remove the name at the end of the song .. but I couldn't

thx for ur correction . but I knew it :)

  • So very beautiful! Thank you for this post. by Eddie Arnold.

  • Very Nice. Thanks...

  • Thank you very much for posting the letter of the song!

  • God damn it, what a beautiful, beautiful song!!

    Love ittttt

  • Saying G.D. what a Beautiful song is the single dumbest stated in the History of mankind. Why Curse? Why invoke God to damn anything.. because a song is beautiful..

Has the culture so infested your heart & mind you can't think of anything else to say. Just sad.. pathetic.. & ignorant.

  • God, Is that You?

"God Damn it"= is just a saying, just a saying!

Dont let little things like a phrase/a saying/words, unsettled you; as inappropriate

the may be, they are just words!

No mean intention was there when I posted.

And if some, as you may think are pathetic & ignorant, remember it is within you to empower their doing, or not!

    Cheers budddy!! No put intened;O)

  • Amen!!

  • Lashing on a guy who said god damn it what a beautiful song? I think someone is the sad and pathetic here mate...

  • let him say whatever he wants- ibpreach-you just made quite possibly the most unnecessary youtube comment i have ever read. you obviously have pent up anger about something - pick your battles- why monitor and insult somebodys harmless phrasing?

  • Dear Z,

Not pent up a bit. I just always make it a point to stick up for God. I honestly believe it's sad to take His name in vain. This especially true when one is making an effort to compliment a song. Why take a puplic forum & just debase it? It's not just a saying as suggest. Thanks

  • you are so right .. I think it was a mistake from me & Im sorry

I cant change it .. but I promise u that I wont do it in any of videos I'll upload in the future

  • hey preach.....how about" G. damn you are a fucking moron!!"

  • I live in L.A. I guess that's South enough!

What does Obama have to do with your inability

    to communicate?

  • This was 'My Way" before Sinatra

  • i think this my favorite song of him...
