i remember watching this game it was awesome. But seriously most refs let you play when you get close to the end of the second half. This call on the other hand should have been made. Remember though, there is multible bad calls in every game to both sides. Im sure it evened out, but it was in the worse possible time for msu

i know this was a long time ago, but i'm still pissed about it. that was such a foul and we should have made (and possibly won) the championship. then again, we shouldn't have even been in this situation if we had made free throws. oh well, we'll just have to wait a little longer for another title.

This call just happened to be a at the worst call for MSU. I can tell by your comment that you are most likely a MSU fan who is a little bias. I can assure you though it all evens out.

@bird33mchale32 For the most part, I agree with your comment. And I'll say this: MSU played flat pretty much the whole game and I can't sit here and say that they "deserved" to win this one. With that being said though, the criticism of the officials here is legitimate. There was a BLATANT foul with seconds to go in a FINAL FOUR game. When the stakes are this high, it can fairly be expected that the refs will get such an obvious call correct.

Butler was completely underserving of getting to the finals last year and were handed the game today against the Gators as well. Florida was dominating that game until the officials deciding to intervene at the 6:00 mark in regulation and call phantom fouls favoring Butler they brought them right back in the game.

This, the two non-existent penalties against the Wings, the strike on Johnny Damon (apparently the dirt is part of the strike zone), the Jim Joyce perfect game fiasco and the Calvin Johnson touchdown (apparently both feet, knees and buttcheeks down in the endzone with possesion of the ball arent enough). Wow, you are so right. I'm sick of seeing games being ruined by the refs. This one had obvious blown calls, MSU belonged in the championship game. And the Red Wings-Sharks series... well, that too had some blatantly messed calls. And then, like you said, there are the cases of Johnson and Galarraga. I'm not trying to whine, I'm just saying I'd like to see some fair officiating towards the Detroit pro teams and Michigan State.

two key fouls were not called near the end of the game for one reason...

the technical foul (bear hug) after lucious's purposely missed free throw the end of the game is worse than this even.

the refs obviously were protecting butler this whole game..Everyone thought MSU was going to knock butler off like most everyone else but whatever Butler did terrible against duke, MSU would have destroyed Puke like recent years have shown come tournament time...

I remember once a Butler player made a play on Green that Doctor Death or Jack Tatum from the Oakland Raiders would have been proud of, only thing is it's not a football game. Morgan had 4 fouls that I couldn't even figure out what they were calling him for... Very very annoying since MSU should have won handily...

Also, every one of Butler's steals (or for idiot announcers who only look at stats "MSU turnovers") was a reach in foul. He said MSU didn't play as rough and tough as Butler. If that was the case, then Butler would have had early foul trouble and more fouls.

This was the worst officiated ncaa basketball game ever. Clearly, it was rigged. Either the officials were told to get Butler a win, or they bet on Butler. If you watch the replays, MSU is called everytime they touch Butler, but Butler players stick their wangs up MSU players butts and don't get called.

regardless, it was a foul. and i don't think the phrase "for better or for worse" is appropriate here. it's worse. what you want from officials is objectivity, as close to that as humanly possible. which requires consistency. this is important because it allows players to make decisions defensively as to how aggressive they're going to be--in relation to what is defined as a "foul."

I understand what you're trying to say, but it was not the same. On the 2nd one, he vaulted into him; on the 1st one, he went basically straight up. Refs, for better or for worse, at the end of the game, strongly tend not to give offense the call when you jump into people at the end. It looks like Hayward did get him on the forearm after the initial body contact, but again, they tend to swallow the whistle on whatever contact happens after you jump into someone. That's just the way it is.

this is unbelievable. I am so furious with the referees from this game. the Spartans clearly were the better team and would have dominated if the game was called evenly.
