i remember watching this game it was awesome. But seriously most refs let you play when you get close to the end of the second half. This call on the other hand should have been made. Remember though, there is multible bad calls in every game to both sides. Im sure it evened out, but it was in the worse possible time for msu
i know this was a long time ago, but i'm still pissed about it. that was such a foul and we should have made (and possibly won) the championship. then again, we shouldn't have even been in this situation if we had made free throws. oh well, we'll just have to wait a little longer for another title.
This video proves that Butler didn't deserve to be there last year...and from that brutal performance last night....12-64 shooting? (I just threw up in my mouth a little)...they DEFINITELY didn't deserve to be there this year either.....let's hope this hack and whack abomination never ruins a NCAA tournament again
@Lochgelly1 Didnt deserve? The NCAA tourny isnt about deserving or not its about who wins and who doesn't. There are multiple bad calls in every game against both sides. This call just happened to be a at the worst call for MSU. I can tell by your comment that you are most likely a MSU fan who is a little bias. I can assure you though it all evens out.
@bird33mchale32 For the most part, I agree with your comment. And I'll say this: MSU played flat pretty much the whole game and I can't sit here and say that they "deserved" to win this one. With that being said though, the criticism of the officials here is legitimate. There was a BLATANT foul with seconds to go in a FINAL FOUR game. When the stakes are this high, it can fairly be expected that the refs will get such an obvious call correct.
Butler was completely underserving of getting to the finals last year and were handed the game today against the Gators as well. Florida was dominating that game until the officials deciding to intervene at the 6:00 mark in regulation and call phantom fouls favoring Butler they brought them right back in the game.
from an unbiased view, this whole thread is hilarious to view..everyone is hating on each other..wow.
izzo has an amazing program going at MSU. stevens is getting one going at Butler. the best we can hope for is a rematch sometime in the future, because the 09-10 season is over now...
Wow. So now with the Calvin Johnson call do you realize there are FIVE count em FIVE major blown calls against michigan sports teams that all got covered on a national stage? This, the two non-existent penalties against the Wings, the strike on Johnny Damon (apparently the dirt is part of the strike zone), the Jim Joyce perfect game fiasco and the Calvin Johnson touchdown (apparently both feet, knees and buttcheeks down in the endzone with possesion of the ball arent enough). Go to hell refs.
Wow, you are so right. I'm sick of seeing games being ruined by the refs. This one had obvious blown calls, MSU belonged in the championship game. And the Red Wings-Sharks series... well, that too had some blatantly messed calls. And then, like you said, there are the cases of Johnson and Galarraga. I'm not trying to whine, I'm just saying I'd like to see some fair officiating towards the Detroit pro teams and Michigan State.
I was there, and it was clearly a foul but green has to be stronger than that in my opinion... don't hate on me though msu fans... i like your squad to win it all this year with lucas back
two key fouls were not called near the end of the game for one reason...
the technical foul (bear hug) after lucious's purposely missed free throw the end of the game is worse than this even.
the refs obviously were protecting butler this whole game..Everyone thought MSU was going to knock butler off like most everyone else but whatever Butler did terrible against duke, MSU would have destroyed Puke like recent years have shown come tournament time...
@TheGordonHayward no, youre the one whose mad that for so many years the horizon league has been shit on and now you had ONE good year and thinks you guys actually belong with the big boys. we did not have a lottery pick because we only had 2 seniors so you can count on us being back and im willing to bet butler wont. izzos been in the final four 6 of the last 12 years, so shut the hell up and quit talking shit because to be honest, in general, butler does not mean shit in NCAA basketball
@blackrideryc Butler will make the tournament because Horizon sucks. But they will be like Dick Vitales Detroit team (also Horizon btw) one great year and spend the rest of their existence playing like what they are: A great mid-major that cant compare to a program like MSU.
Pathetic just fucking pathetic. Butler was handed this game. I remember once a Butler player made a play on Green that Doctor Death or Jack Tatum from the Oakland Raiders would have been proud of, only thing is it's not a football game. Raymar couldn't even look at someone without getting called. Just terrible.
Agree completely... This game was so difficult to watch... I know exactly the play you are talking about where Green gets clothes-lined!!! And this non-call at the end sent me over the edge...
Morgan had 4 fouls that I couldn't even figure out what they were calling him for... Very very annoying since MSU should have won handily...
I hate complaining about this bc it isn't in my nature but the crap calls in this game were way over the top...
Show me a college player that misses the rim by that much unless he
1. Is blocked 2. Is fouled Didn't see a block.... Butler plays a craptastic style of clutch and grab that overwhelms weak refs. Have fun with your runner up trophy.
@TheGordonHayward Have fun never getting back to the final four again now that Hayward is gone and probably missing your only chance to win a national title. I hope you guys enjoy watching us as we go back to the final four again this year and take home the title. You know, cuz we're actually an elite program unlike you guys, who just made one lucky run.
@LightButDark575 We had a bad shooting game, you got most of the calls, our best player was injured, and yet you only won by 2 points. 8 times out of 10 I'd take MSU. We would have beaten you if Lucas wasn't injured.
MSU almost won this thing with half a team. Most people dont realize two other starters were severely injured besides Lucas in the tournament. Allen and Roe were playing limited minutes on one leg.
@achiles05 Okay there not good they got to the final four, they were fouled they shoudve won refs called every foul on us, and Duke almost lost to butler you fag
Also, every one of Butler's steals (or for idiot announcers who only look at stats "MSU turnovers") was a reach in foul. I hope these refs die slowly of rectal cancer while watching their wives get raped and their kid's throats slit. Even Izzo thinks the game was rigged. He said MSU didn't play as rough and tough as Butler. If that was the case, then Butler would have had early foul trouble and more fouls.
This was the worst officiated ncaa basketball game ever. Clearly, it was rigged. Either the officials were told to get Butler a win, or they bet on Butler. If you watch the replays, MSU is called everytime they touch Butler, but Butler players stick their wangs up MSU players butts and don't get called.
so, if we take this play, what should have occurred, is hayward makes the decision to foul green because he thinks it is better to put him on the line than give him a shot from a few feet away. but in reality, hayward fouls him and the refs overlook it, to the outrage of all who believe in justice
regardless, it was a foul. and i don't think the phrase "for better or for worse" is appropriate here. it's worse. what you want from officials is objectivity, as close to that as humanly possible. which requires consistency. this is important because it allows players to make decisions defensively as to how aggressive they're going to be--in relation to what is defined as a "foul."
I understand what you're trying to say, but it was not the same. On the 2nd one, he vaulted into him; on the 1st one, he went basically straight up. Refs, for better or for worse, at the end of the game, strongly tend not to give offense the call when you jump into people at the end. It looks like Hayward did get him on the forearm after the initial body contact, but again, they tend to swallow the whistle on whatever contact happens after you jump into someone. That's just the way it is.
this is unbelievable. I am so furious with the referees from this game. the Spartans clearly were the better team and would have dominated if the game was called evenly.
This no-call sullied this game.
