This made my day! Getting to see a video on You-Tube,that is such a sweet pre-race memorial of Cecelia and her horse Tiznow! Watching the tapes of long ago races, brought me such joy! Thank-you!
A fantastic race between two great racehorses and Tom Durkin was at his absolute best on commentary. Trevor Denman is an ok commentator but when i watch these old Breeders Cup races i realise he's nowhere near as effective as Tom Durkin used to be.
Some great sires came out of this crop. Tiznow and Giants Causeway are two sires that if you see their names under a contender, seriously consider betting that horse. Both horses threw true with their speed and heart.
I had a feeling Zenyatta shared some kind of link to Tiznow as i was looking up the bloodlines the only link they have together is in a descendant named princequillo after all there both monster horses
Tiznow my all time favorite horse who had my heart racing when he faced giant's causeway down the stretch and had me cheering at the top of my lungs as he turned for home catching sakhee with every stride a memory you cant put a price on
This horse looked as if he was done at the 1/4 pole, but he just would not quit! You'll notice inside the 1/16, Tiznow emptied the tank. picking up his knees just a little higher and tried a little harder than Sakkee. Breathtaking to watch/ Thanx for [psting
Simply the best race I have ever seen in racing and to know I was there that day to watch my all time favorite horse and nail the exacta and the win ticket was simply special and for it be in New York and Durkin's call "Tiznow wins it for America" was why I love horse racing and my second all time favorite horse Xtra Heat who gave a wonderful account of herself in the sprint that year. WONDERFUL!!!
i find that wierd that only 7600 views of this video.....what a great story race and horse!!!!..myself i have watched this video at least 1000(not exagerating) times and still watch at least 5-10 times a week..i cant get enough of it...awesome!
This makes me tear up every time. I watched this race on TV and was just screaming for him to crush the foreign horses who they would not shut up about. Tiznow made me proud to be an American!
right at after 7:13, it's like he stretched his head out and laid out a flat final run! that is the mark of greatness in a horse, when he can dig for the extra stuff no jockey can get a horse to do.!
I probably rewatch both of Tiznow's BC wins several times a year and they never fail to give me chills and a thrill at the same time. He's absolutely one of the best horses of recent times to race...Watching his stretch runs and seeing his grit and heart leaves little doubt that he's stamped his foals. Colonel John is very much his father's son. Thanks so much for posting this!
I think he's one of the greatest of all time. Maybe I'm just a sucker for horse who has more heart than can be comprehended. It never fails...I always choke up when I watch this.
You'll notice in both his Classic races, Tiznow played with the other horses just like Affirmed used to. His jock said it best.. he's an intelligent horse and goin in too quick meant he went back to the stables. Tiznow could have taken each of the two Classics whenever he chose just as Affirmed kissed off Alydar whenever he decided to in the TC.
Oh, I'm so glad that feature has been posted up here! I was just browsing channels when I came across horse racing (horsies! My favorite!), and when I watched the feature, man, I was pulling for Tiznow (who I'd never heard of, along with all the other horses of the day) like you wouldn't believe. And the way he pulled it off, is it any wonder that I still tear up just thinking about it? Tiznow's 2001 BC just isn't complete without that feature, for me anyway.
every time i watch tiznow's back to back BC wins i just wonder if there was something in that horse in those two races...his perforamnce on those two big wins seems to suggest that tiznow was there to win, no matter what the cost was or the competition...love this video
I think Ms. Rubins did see her baby that day. Maybe at the head of the strecth when sakhee ran by him, she whispered in his ear, RUN MY BOY, RUN!!!! Thank you once again cf1970.
That is one of the greatest stretch calls in horse racing history "TIZNOW WINS IT FOR AMERCIA" and this was right after September 11th. A fitting call for this horse race. Tom Durkin hit it right on this call
I love Tiznow! I went to Kentucky and took a tour of thoroughbred farms there, including WinStar Farms. I saw Tiznow and got to pet him, too! He's really sweet, unlike Distorted Humor, who was trying to bite anypone who got near him.
everything about tiznow is special, his pedigree, a loving owner, defeating top eurpean n american horses twice in the bigest purse..he is right even on the stretch he looks bored, it is like he is toying with them in both classics or teasing them n prolonging the race so he wont go back to the barn like chris said.
Thank you everyone for your fine comments and kind compliments. I love Tiznow and his story, and also am tickled at how Curlin convincingly won the Classic.
It was a real tragedy to see how George Washington was pretty much thrown into that race, out of his element, grass. He didn't look happy at all and appeared to be struggling mightily, poor thing. May he rest in peace.
yep its sad and disgusting that horses die every year in the breeders cup, rip georgous george washington as he was called in europe, what a champion to lose like so many other great champions lost..it seems like a horse dies every day
That you for posting this, cf1970! After what was for me a disappointing BC weekend, this is sweet to see a real champ I can root for. I actually knew little about Tiznow's owner's history, so this makes his victories all the more compelling.
That tribute; I didn't even know about that (that was before I got into horse racing) but I felt ssoooooooooooooooo sad! I hope Mrs. Straub-Rubens was watching from the heavens when Tiznow made history! What a good horse!
tiznow should have been hoy in 2001 i mean point given a great horse but never went up against older company i think it was an injury that kept him from the classic
This is a fine choice for your next upload; some of us may have heard of Tiznow, some have not. However, it's Cecelia's tribute, lacking so much of the overdone fluff prevalent in so many of these type of pieces, that puts it over the top; makes Tiznow's win in this race more meaningful!
My favorite horse. Thanks for posting this up!

I do not know how certain it is but i meant to understand that tiznow is the dad of a horse by the name of tizbig. Anyone could confirm that?

That is correct. Type in his name at the pedigreequery website for more information on him and MANY other horses.
Take care.
