  • To avoid trashing an expensive cal kit, make sure that you turn only the nut and not the whole body of the connector. As others mention, don't have the whole sliding load hanging off the analyser. I would never let you near my cal kit...

  • and one more thing, you should never attach the tunning stub directly to hte connector, as the weight of the metal pipe may bend the connector pin over time. YOu never wnat that to happen .

  • and also you should calibrate it with your cable attached, which is hte whole point of calibration.

  • you don't need to use that smith chart to calibrate it, btw.

  • that thin long dildo looking thing is called a tunning stub. 

  • I’m envious of your equipment. My school is so ghetto we still have to hand calculate smith chart diagrams after making measurements off a Gunn diode attached to an ancient slotted line module(most of which don’t work).
