I've watched this film a few times now - truly beautiful.
The American version is a travesty - typical dumbed down crap. Nothing left to your imagination, or to figure out for yourself. Everything has to be spelled out in unnecessary added-on dialogue. It's actually made me realise how shallow most American films are, when you compare to a film made with true artistic talent. I now need to find more films like this. Anyone got any suggestions?
This is what a movie with vampires should aspire to capture. It doesn't try to glamourize vampirism, instead it shows portrays it in a more realistic way making it seem more real. I actually prefer that it is in a foreign language, it make it more authentic, to be honest i can't really take a vampire with an american accent seriously. Exceptional film!
@firebolt619 Agreed, its brilliant and you never tire of it (I've only made it to 6 times though!) I think the original swedish audio with the English subtitles is the better version instead of the dubbed English audio. I like the American version too but I like them both as some scenes are better in each one. I prefer the hospital scenes in Let Me In but I like the scene where Eli bleeds uninvited in this one. They are both as good as eachother - keep watching!
@CyborgDeer But the American remake was actually quite good, Chloe Grace Moretz who played eli (though in this version she played Abby because Eli was re-named), was absoloutly fantastic, she gave a gripping performance not just from someone of her age but even at an adult standard it would have been recognized and acknowledged as good. Kodi Smit- Mcphee played Oskar (again re-named to Owen) and he was great aswell alothough I prefered Oskar looking like this and with his original name. :)
@DanniiXDoomm i wasnt talking about the actors, i love chloe moretz and the kid who played oskar did great for a newcomer, i was referring to how it was directed and written and portrayed. they made it seem like just another vampire love story when really its way more complicated than that and wasnt very accurate and as book-true as the original version was.
ok i havent watched this yet but ive read the description for it,it sounds an awful lot like Let Me In,what have we gotten so bored we're remaking movies 2 years after they come out lol
everyone is makin fun of theenglish dubb becaus they say the american boys sound like girls -_- these kids sound jus like girls too jus in a different language which ismore annoying
@Mustakrakiish Don't worry, this version has the correct subtitles. The subtitles issue in America is beginning to soften up as they are pushing out more copies with the theatrical subtitles, including blu-rays.
I seen Let Me In, and I have to say that even if it was a direct (Americanized) mimicry of Let the Right One In. It still did not match up to the original in any shape nor form. The staring female from Kick-Ass seems to warm and social to pull off the cold and yet innocence Lina Leandersson gifted the screen with. I felt that Let Me In messed up when they kept making simple situation so dramatic and flashy instead of leaving it close to reality as possible like Let the Right One In. Overall, th
@iHynan I am American, so I guess u could accuse me of being biased... But that's what I thought 2... that Let Me In, though I like them both (American version a little more) did kinda dramatize it, and make it a little more like a horror movie, than Let The Right One In... But I just bought the book Yesterday, and finished it this morning, and I gotta say... Though "Let Me In" was meant to stay true to the oringinal movie, it did the book more justice, than "Let The Right One In."
@iHynan What I mean is, if you've actually read the book, the original story... "Let Me In" is actually closer to the reality, of the book. "Let The Right One In" made the story a little softer, a little sadder, whereas the actually book was alot darker, alot more 'horror movie'. Eli himself was alot closer 2 the demonic depiction of a vampire, in "Let Me In" than Eli in "Let The Right One In". You don't believe me, go read the book.
@laoman789 Good 2 know. Although I wasn't saying that anyone had 2 agree with me. It's n agree 2 disagree type of thing.
Seriously though, in the book Eli grew shark like teeth, her/his eyes reflected light(some times), she/he could grow the tipes of her/his fingers into claws and could grow these membrane like wings under her/his arms. Hence the more 'demonic' depiction of a vamp in "Let Me In" was closer 2 Eli in the book. Vampire wise...
@Ackles4life I don't necessarily disagree that the depiction of Eli/Abby as a vampire was better in let me in, but, to me, that doesn't mean that it was any closer to the source than the original film was. Let Me In changes so many little aspects of Eli's character, that I think it moved much farther from the source than LTROI did.
@laoman789 Now that I do agree with. "Let Me In" changed Eli's character so much, I was almost insulted>_< That's why I was trying 2 say the movie/feel of the story was closer 2 the book. Not the main character. Don't get me wrong, I love "Let The Right One In", in some ways more than the book and "Let Me In". But the book was alot darker/graphic/and disturbing than the first movie. I was just saying that in that sense, the 2nd movie did better...
@Ackles4life In the book, Eli just thinks of her/himself with wings or claws, but that doesn't necessarily make her demonic; birds have wings and claws. The point of it is that all of her adaptations are purely for the purpose of feeding, and escape. So the fact that these qualities appear reminiscient of those of a demon, are I believe purely coincidental. The qualitites she develops are more bestial than demonic.
@scorpiorok That may be, but that still doesn't deter the fact (in any way), that "Let Me In" portrayed Eli ("demonic/beastial" wise) far better than "Let The Right One In" didO__O
@Ackles4life Yes. I agree that Let Me In does demonize her more, whereas in LTROI, much of it is left to sound effects (such as when Eli leaves the hospital). But the fact that LMI makes Eli/Abby seem more bestial/demonic I don't think truly makes it better, for it causes the viewer to lose sympathy with her.
@scorpiorok I personally didn't lose any sympathy for her, at allO.O Truth be told, I did see "Let Me In" first, fell in love with Elli, read the book, fell in love with the story, THAN finally watched the original "Let The Right One In". And I love both movies equally^__^ I also never said (and have never thought) that making her more demonic/monstrous, was better. I never even implied that. I just said, that "Let Me In" did a 'better job' at it. Not that it made the story, better.
I never heard of this movie before reading the cnn article on scary children in movies. I'm so happy someone downloaded for my pleasure. thanks very much for this great movie. revenge is sweet!
