My friends greyhound got baited in like this one night at a cookout and was attacked by 4 coyotes just outside of the clearing in the woods until Blitz my german shepherd stepped in. It scared the hell out of us. The greyhound injuries (broken jaw) cost my friend over 500 bucks. Blitz chased them off and was bitten in the rear leg which required 12 stitches. Needless to say it was an unforgetful night. I didn't even know we had coyotes in the area.
@lotzoso - I didn't think we had coyotes this far east either, but we do. We have a pack of about 5 around my area. Now I never let my dogs out at night alone. I always take my 9mm pistol with a laser sight or my shotgun with me. I've read that they will go after intact male dogs, which 2 of mine are. They'll literally try to rip their testicles off. It's some kind of pack dominance thing. I also keep the rabies shots current as well.

Good dog you have there! My female German shepherd chased away a pack of about 3-5 coyotes from our property. She is a sweet dog, but like most German shepherds, is very protective and territorial of the land.
I agree with some people here, even though the owner may not know or deny what the coyote's up to, the dog does. That's why he doesn't chase the coyote into the shadows. He can probably even hear and smell the other coyotes nearby, just waiting.

@66SiK You know i studied that ovcharka are the best dogs. You can trust them because are not harmfull to the children but rather playfull, they love thier family. They only deal with bad intruders like thieves and predators.

Notice how it chases the coyote off its territory but wont leave its territory. Its not interested in the CHASE its interested in its territory. This is a very well trained and or bread dog. bobcat(the bobcat actually scratched him up alot worse than anything either coyote did) but he bit into that cat so hard he broke ribs-OUCH !! in areas of known predators it's good to have a dog that can take care of you and itself.

I didn't believe that till I saw some coyotes try that on my german shepherd. Coyotes cannot live around people unless they were raised from pups. (Then they act just like a dog, if raised like a dog)
I had a 45lb Blue Heeler in college. I was camping on the beach and a coyote ran in a grabbed a bag of bait and ran off into the dunes with my heeler in pursuit. I was sure she was going to get ganged up on in the dunes, and I did hear a lot of yelping and screaming from the coyote. Couldn't tell if it was more than one though. She came back without a scratch on her. She was a viscous bitch when she wanted to be. She could bite a solid rubber lacrosse ball in half!
I was thinking the same thing DeadBuck5 mentions. Here in O.C., CA, coyotes are running around our neighborhood in packs of 3 and more. One small pet dog was grabbed out of the arms of its owner a while back. Just two weeks ago, three coyotes walked past me by only a few yards. They are getting more desperate that is for sure. I wish that Shotgun Jones had a buddy with him so that the coyote would have been scared off sooner. Why didn't the owner come out and bring the dog inside?

@sslayerr I agree with you on that, German Shepherds have been ruined because of that show stance they were bred for. The original dogs were very healthy and much more stable temperament. Another breed that has been "mutated" by bad breeders is the American Pit Bull Terrier, it is very very rare to find a breeder who actually breeds real APBTs, to many of them are breeding others into the breed to make them bulkier, then trying to put them off as purebreds.
I agree with you on the Chihuahuas, but Dachshunds are very strong for there size. They can fuck somthing up if they want too. When we had a ranch we had 2 Standard Dachshunds, a American Staffordshire Terrier, and a Cattle dog/border collie mix. I'm telling yuh Dachshunds will give a coyote a run for there money, sure they probaly wouldn't win but they sure arent shit dogs.

Coyotes will kill dogs in a heart beat. They killed my daughters Border Collie some years ago. I also watched 3 of them try to tag my Ger. Shep. Lucky I saw it start and yelling ran the Coyotes off or they would have wore him down and killed him. It's how they make there living.

My dads dog was a coyote chaser until they almost got her. once they chased her back to my dads tractor and he had to throw an axe at them. he has had a gun on the tractor ever since. If this dog had followed it into the darkness it probably would not have made it back

Ground hog, yes, but badger no way! Dachshund is food for a badger. Badgers are extremely strong and ferocious, and there is no way in heeeeeeeeelllllll a dachshund can avoid immediate death.

@sslayerr I agree with you on that, German Shepherds have been ruined because of that show stance they were bred for. The original dogs were very healthy and much more stable temperament. Another breed that has been "mutated" by bad breeders is the American Pit Bull Terrier, it is very very rare to find a breeder who actually breeds real APBTs, to many of them are breeding others into the breed to make them bulkier, then trying to put them off as purebreds.

I agree with you on the Chihuahuas, but Dachshunds are very strong for there size. They can fuck somthing up if they want too. When we had a ranch we had 2 Standard Dachshunds, a American Staffordshire Terrier, and a Cattle dog/border collie mix. I'm telling yuh Dachshunds will give a coyote a run for there money, sure they probaly wouldn't win but they sure arent shit dogs.

the coyote is not scared of the dog I think it is trying to make the dog go after him. Once inside the bushes coyotes would attack and kill the dog.

Coyotes will kill dogs in a heart beat. They killed my daughters Border Collie some years ago. I also watched 3 of them try to tag my Ger. Shep. Lucky I saw it start and yelling ran the Coyotes off or they would have wore him down and killed him. It's how they make there living.
They might not look like much but don't under estimate them.
