Along the way, some of us also embraced Sikhi. Many yogis in India were upset that Yogi Bhajan violated the millennia-old traditions of keeping the practices of yoga secret. Some Sikhs are also mad at him for teaching yoga. My friend and brother, Guru Sant Singh has many posts with his arguments against yogic practices. I have refuted his arguments. I appreciate your comments, everyone :) I am Sikh and I am a yogi. According to Patanjali's writings, yoga exists independent of any one race, culture, religion, or nationality. Patanjali considered "life" part of a great continuity/integrity pre-existing before physical birth and death. I teach yoga to people of all religions and people of no religion.

The Siri Guru Granth Sahib covers every aspect of life. If you read and listen to the Guru's teachings, everything is covered. As a yogi, I do find references to yogic technology in the Guru's teachings, but others, who do not practice yoga, achieve all the benefits of the Guru teachings by listening and reciting Gurubani from the Siri Guru Granth Sahib.

While yoga is not a religion. Yoga does have a spiritual context, and so there is overlap in some yogic technology with the teachings of many different religions, including the teachings of the Sikh Guru's.

When Guru Nanak first told the Sidhi Yogis they should teach yoga in the world, to the householders, they steadfastly refused, saying it had to remain secret. Guru Nanak told his son, Baba Siri Chand to go and lead the yogis, which he did. Before leaving the earthly plane, Baba Siri Chand passed the mantle of Raj Yog to Guru Ram Das, and caused the Sidhi Yogis to bow to Guru Ram Das as Raj Yog, as recorded in the Shabad Raj Yog Takat Deen.

Yogi Bhajan considered Guru Ram Das his personal Guru. He thought that Guru Nanak’s order to the Sidhi Yogis to teach the householders should be executed, and he decided he would follow that order. So he came to the West and taught Raj Yoga, which he named Kundalini Yoga, to many hungry souls. During the time that youth in the sixties were taking a lot of harmful drugs, we learned how to meditate and heal ourselves with yoga, and so thousands and thousands stopped taking drugs.

Listen, Yogi Bear, since when did yoga, kundalini , mantra become part of Sikh religion?? They are all part of Hindu religion.

@maddog3768 ... remember what Bhulla Shaha Fakir said, a muslim fakir, he said `bahat kayouin aaab kee naa taabkee, jai guru gobind singh na hotai tuu sunnan hooti saab ki`... it said: I will talk about today, not tomorrow or not about the past, if it wasn`t for the sikh Guru Gobind Singh Ji, there would be no trace or DNA of Hindu religion... Bhulla Shaha was alive when Mughal empire came to India and took over Hindustan and that`s when Sikhism came to rescue, the flithy hindu`s...
