  • Well at least the developing countries will out number the developed by population. That means if our top business continue to hire cheap labor in those developing areas, then we will lose our spot in the world. But I am thankful that Obama had cracked down or announce the isssue in his State of the Union Address. But regardless I believe that the United States will not be #1 during the Tribulation Era. Even scriptures show no evidence of us still being a super power.

  • I came here just to hear him say "what about the forests"

  • Considering American Airlines couldn't manage to fly a load of rubber dogshit outta Detroit, the recall order makes perfect sense.

  • GREAT movie.I also love those 70's hair styles.Men looked like they should be:)

Anyway,i also recomend other 70's Science fiction movies like "Logan Run"(i heard that the book is better)and Clockwork Orange.

  • I was seven year's old when I first saw this film...it is probably more relevant today in 2011 as it was back in 1972. Awesome story, awesome acting, awesome special effect's, awesome cinematography...what more can I say...5 out of 5 star's!!!!

  • GUYS! All of you. Check out Caveman (on the left). Now that's a brilliant movie!

  • @Domzdream Look up! Hay Kido; there be a whole hell of a lot of a sky out there, only a little bit of dirt!

    BRUCE!

  • He should use those idiots as fertilizer for the plants.

At least they would be usefull for once. ;)

  • Also, another truth about forests, considering this movie, is that it would be important to keep a habitat of wildlife with it. A forest without wildlife cannot florish alone.

  • I love his speech in defence of the forests. It's echoed through my head for decades, and finally comes down to his final remark "they're not replaceable". Gold.

  • The baby boom is over, human population grows old. According to UN, in 2150 Earth's population will be half of what it is today. So there is still hope for Earth. But we will have big troubles; too many old people, not enough young ones to feed them.

  • @DarkTemplR The Western population may be growing old (though some segments like Aboriginal people and Latinos are experiencing a baby boom right now) but that is far from the whole world. The UN shows the world pop. hitting 10 billion by 2100 so I don't know where you think we're going to arrive at "half of what it is today" by 2150.

Pulling stats out of your ass is fun isn't it, but it's not very helpful. And it doesn't make you seem smart.

  • @whiskeyify - you have to watch to the end of the film...

  • A favorite film. Although, considering unfettered population growth and the industrial goals of the exploding third world, no "Kyoto Accord" is going to save us.

    We are utterly doomed.

But, from a galactic standpoint, that is the way of all planets. In a billion years or so the inevitable warming of the sun was going to kill us anyway. So stop yer' whining, dreamers. When the ride comes to a stop, it's time to get off..

  • saw this at a star trek convention, its been my fav ever since

  • Thanks for uploading this. I never fully appreciated this movie growing up but its amazing how many of the themes in this movie are more current now than in the 70's when this movie was considered sci-fi. We have a huge hole in the ozone, global pollution, acid rain, de-forestation of the rain forest, the extinction of species on a daily basis, global warming etc. These things are not sci-fi but a sad reality of far man has really come.

  • I loved this movie as a child. I wish they would do a remake to help inspire our children.

  • ironic we really are heading for this type of path.

  • there were several domes...why couldn't they have kept just one ?

  • we need this scenario in reverse, the humans blasted out into space with earth preserved

  • He said recall.LOL.

  • that Dern hippy!!

  • ...how they were cheering in the background when the announcement was made...

  • The idea of a planet without poverty or disease sounds beautiful to me.

  • The idea of a planet without poverty or disease sounds beautiful to me.

  • Beautiful performance from Mr Dern!

  • I too would straight murder those three ignoramuses to save THE VERY LAST of the flora and fauna...They are quintessential idiots.

You be doing two good duties at once! Saving the wildlife and practicing proper eugenics! Hear, hear!

  • I don't see the logic behind the insanity of blowing up the domes! Why not place the domes in an orbit around the earth and charge us irresponsible humans a fee to visit the beauty that was once plentiful?

  • Bruce Dern vs. Rod Steiger. Winner?

  • thank you for uploading this, very much appreciated

  • This movie is impressing. Not only in the used technology (great not only for the 70s, but also looking good today), not only the story is great - the acting is too ! His 3 comrades are so destructive, so ignorant, so silly and uninterested in beautie - with their great performance, these actors personificate ignorance and dumbness for me.

  • I too saw this as a child one rainy night in London, not only did the actor Bruce Dern become a life long favourite, it sowed a seed in me that never left, Im no hippy, but i do know how important and precious life on earth is and so do my kids, an important movie for us all.............................................

  • Why blow the domes up?

as "Abandoning" them would have still allowed the ships to go home

There's only one reason I can see to blowing the domes up. That is to destroy the possiblity of humans ever seeing such things again.

  • they have to blow the forests up as elsewise there would be no conflict, the gardener could just go back with hope he can pertition to get them properly cared for again, its got to be that way

  • They should have called this movie 'The Last Hippy' ; p

  • What does this teach? That man is replaceable but trees aren't? Killing three men is preferable to the destruction of forest?

No. When I saw this movie as a kid I cried my eyes out. My mom thought I was a goof! This movie still makes me want to cry but now I know why. It is hard to see something as beautiful and majestic as nature disappearing forever. People don't realize the extreme loss that we have ALREADY sustained. This movie is like a "here....I told you so".

  • Struck a deep chord with me too. It was a prophecy. Cold commercialism could truly wreck the place for good in a couple of hundred years.

I see he outplays them in cards and in batte.

  • As far as I'm concerned, the destruction of the last forests ever is not a compromise, it's a form of madness. While it would certainly not be anything remotely pleasant for me to do, I would personally kill 3 men if it was to save the last forests.

  • One of my personal favorites. I love this film. It is a miracle it was even ever made.

  • I saw it when I was about 10 years old and it changed my whole view of ecology, stopping pollution, and destruction of the planet. I hope many people especially the younger generation of today see it.

  • I think we need new movies with the same messages. Inconvenient Truth except with a plot and characters.

  • @Silent Running Movie

You were ten when you saw this movie? My dad took me to see it when I was 8 and like you it had a huge impact on me. Out of all the movies I watched as a kid I remember this one the most. Funny how great works can change our destiny.

My dad always took me places back in the 70's, planetariums, museums, Sierra Nevada's etc.. Thank for posting this!! Good job friend.

  • much appreciated!

  • THANKS! this is outstanding

  • thanks for uploading!
