I don't know what anyone else thinks but I think Seasons in the Sun is a Sick interpretation of this masterpiece. Now that I hear the original its almost an insult. How do you take something interesting and intelligent and make it into THAT insipid thing??!!! I used to like seasons in the sun, I wish I had not learned of this. Incomparable!

The version recorded by Terry Jacks was a "translation" by Rod McKuen, who also recorded it himself. Terry Jacks and others did record it, but none as bad as McKuen himself.
@mujerado Except that Jacks couldn't remember all of McKuen's lyrics, so he made some up himself to fill in. McKuen's version (also recorded by the Kingston Trio) was much closer to the original than Jacks's was.
@kavorka75 I couldn't agree more. Terry Jacks's version was pure kitsch (even if it was slickly produced and had a better string arrangement than it deserved). As for Nirvana's version - I know they did it off-the-cuff, swapping instruments, but, even conceding that, it's still dreadful. (I expect the mass execration of Kurt Cobain obsessives now. Forgive me if I can't see anything in your hero (beyond tremendous drive and ambition, and some kind of charisma unrelated to actual talent).)
@mazikaze Anglophones are wont to sneer at French popular music. I wonder what Francophones think of US in the light of atrocities such as those perpetrated by Terry Jacks and his epigones?
