someone, anyone please tell me where i can order the series on DVD, i watched every episode and hate that fact that it has disapeared....i am a chef of 23 years and this show has been more than inspirational...and freakin hillarious to boot....please let me know where i can ordr this on dvd, full seasons..
Chef Ramsey owes his entire career to Chef Blackstock! Chef! was one of the best series ever... I really miss it over here in the US. It used to be on PBS, but not lately...
Yeah, when I first saw Hell's Kitchen on FOX back in 2005, I thought Chef Ramsay was imitating Chef! or that Chef! was based on Ramsay, but apparently neither is the case...
Tis true, Ramsey is not really imitating the character of Blackstock... but I laugh when I see Ramsey because of the similar tempers/being prone to lobbing insults. I've worked in a lot of kitchens... chefs tend to be a little on the critical-crabby side.
Also, Blackstock's diatribes are more creative and eloquent, whereas I am quite tired by now of Ramsay's profanity...(how many times can you talk about bollocks without it getting tedious?) And Lenny Henry is more cuddly looking, too...:)
It ran from 1995 to 1998 (I saw it in 98) and starred Julie Sawalha (one of the sisters in the 95 version of Pride and Prejudice) and Lynda Bellingham (who played the second Mrs. Herriot in All Creatures Great and Small- but I preferred the first).
And there was a mid90's sitcom with Emma Thompson's younger sister entitled "Nelson's Column" and it certainly was better than The Office, as someone from London noted on IMDB. Also I remember something from the mid80's involving Emma Thompson wearing kitchenware, it was real weird...
Besides Chef!, my favorites are Are You Being Served?, The Thin Blue Line (which is really Are You Being Served re-packaged in a police station if you think about it) and Mr. Bean.
There are a number of British sitcoms I like, some of which I haven't seen since I was a kid, which are not necessarily laugh-out loud funny, but are pleasant to watch and good-humoured: As Time Goes By, Executive Stress, A Fine Romance, May to December, To the Manor Born, Fresh Fields (later French Fields), The Two of Us, The Good Life (known as Good Neighbors in the U.S.). I even used to occasionally watch Eastenders in the early 90's, although I know that's not a sitcom...
There were some that are stupid and annoying at times but I still like: My Hero, Fawlty Towers, Faith in the Future...and of course a special category is reserved for the Vicar of Dibley, which IS funny even though I am offended by some of the creator's sensibilities about what are appropriate subjects to make light of...
Keeping Up Appearances is a one-off for me. It's difficult for me to continually mine humour from more than one viewing of that woman's awful pretension...
I think posting entire episodes of something is an abuse of You Tube. I don't think companies should fuss if people post clips- posting clips is like quoting a passage from a text. If anything, I think clips tend to advertise their product. But posting entire episodes seems to me to be piracy.
I would add that posting music videos is another matter- I'm all for posting entire music videos, especially seeing as the companies haven't made the old ones available to the public, and, moreover, the videos are never in high definition anyway...
This show is funny!

I also loathe My Family, but will still watch it, still endure it, for the sake of Daniela Denby-Ashe, who is a babe.
