  • Absolutely STUNNING!!! Beautiful quality to his higher, louder notes...his final note sailed and he improved the tone, made it even better, midway through. His face conveyed total control, confidence. Obviously polished and refined to the max.

  • @kakkerlakkendoder Have to disagree, Warlow the better voice for sure.

  • fab

  • The absolute best version of this song I have ever heard. Others may have sang it, but Mr. Warlow owns it. Such an amazing song. Bravo, Anthony Warlow.

  • I did see him playing the Phantom and it was awesome!

  • @Harlech1000 I too had the rare privilege of seeing him as The Phantom ... how lucky are we?! What a delight.

  • Wow, this is now my favorite version of this song. Well done Anthony!

  • This is my second favorite, I don't like his phrasing, it's much less natural that Cuccioli's

  • Excellent of course.

  • Hahaha i truly cant choose who my favorite jekyll or hyde is i love both him and Cuccioli. but Anthony Warlow definitely has the best version hands down of this song. I think this is his song.

  • This man sings beautifully, which such feeling. Such a wonderful song too.

  • Warlow = THE KING! Still the best, I would surrender a body part to be sing half as well as he :)

  • Pitch Finder... you blaspheme. To musical hell with you. Warlow, without ever even playing the role on stage, puts more power and character into Jekyll and Hyde than any of the other performers EVER have or EVER will.

  • It's a toss up. I think David Phelps has the best male voice, but this guy is the best male performer.

  • Beautiful never heard anything like this.

  • how the fuck do u hold a note for 18 seconds??

  • @jujutsu6464 so much breath support, it's amazing!

  • None of the other Jekylls/Hydes hold a candle to Warlow.

  • bloody hell he's the only person who i absoutley love singing this song this is how i imagine someone to sing this song, i hated this song first time i heard he's made me love it xx

  • This is real, true talent. What happened to all the talent in the music industry? Now we have people like Rebecca Black as stars rather than actual talented people.

  • OMG... his voice is totally orgasmic. So rich and full and powerful. The best. The pre-Ramin Karimloo.

  • 2 people need to go find a moment somewhere else.

  • This is probably the best performer of this song in terms of vocal ability, but Cuccioli IS Jekyll. He IS Hyde. He has more character than Warlow Evan or anyone else ever will.

  • @flynn19 I agree. But, Rob Evan was without doubt the best on stage Jekyll.

  • His voice does things to me.

  • Every other "singer" of this number should study every one of this man's performances.

    Incredible voice!

  • This is how Broadway/West End/etc singers SHOULD be singing, and not just in the legit rep. The "boy band" sound (that used to be only for the character voices) in musical theater has become the standard and it makes me sick. This here is wonderful!

  • personally i prefer the video from when he's older and singing it but this is amazing as well <3<3<3

  • Amazing...He's fantastic!

  • Now THIS is how this song is MEANT to be sung. It's what I try to emulate in my renditions, thought of course I pale in comparison to this god of the the show tunes.

  • yes he was in phatom of the opera he was the best and will always be the best phantom and as to the comment its effortless for him to sing this song he has been doing this for a long time

  • most incredible lip syncing EVA

  • @charlesccj5 I don't think he was lip syncing...

  • WOW. Just WOW !

  • David Hassellhoff's version is better :-P

    (joking!)

  • What A Powerful Voice.... BRAVISSIMO Anthony Warlow... I can feel the POWER!!!!

  • What a Powerful Voice........Bravissimo Anthony Warlow....I can feel the POWER!!!!!!

  • amazing

  • amazing

  • HE IS THE BEST HANDS DOWN..

  • Anthony Warlow is so amazing..love him..

  • Now THIS is how the song is supposed to be sung. If you do it any other way than this, then you shouldn't be doing it at all.

Harsh. But its just the way I feel.

  • he is the best!!! and he is NOT lip syncing. When there is correct breath control and one is singing within ones range there isnt any tension in the throat or face. The force comes directly from the diaphragm. So it not only looks effortless........it IS effortless. And you cant compare the two separate recordings either, there is over fifteen years between them. Just accept his perfection, and let him be.

  • Well, that last note went for 18secs. That's normal ;-)

  • a great song

  • awesome - i dare anybody to find a better rendition of this song

  • if jason statuam (sp?) was a singer! haha no this guy rules!

  • His vocal control is just oustanding.

  • He shouls have played this role on Broadway or Westend! UGH!

  • I remember this performance on 'Hey hey it's saturday'...in Australia, around 1994 I think....I taped it because I like Anthony, still have the tape...it was the first time I heard LINDA EDER sing her songs from the soundtrack, I was BLOWN AWAY......by both of them.....

  • Totally the Best Jekyll & Hyde Ever!!

And Phantom :) Everything he touches turns to gold

  • BEST JEKYLL AND HYDE EVER :)

  • incredible

  • I had tickets to see him in phanton before he became ill. Never got to see him perform. Anthony has an amazing voice. If you follow the principles of classical music and being classically you end up with talent such as this. Well Done Anthony welcome back.

  • Best singer ever. I love him. 18 seconds.. oh, Lord... I'm in admiration again..and again...

  • correction 18 seconds rather..hehehe

  • wow..listen to 3:07- 3:25...amazing lung power that was 17 seconds of sustained note...

  • I disagree with maydalena. Warlow is technically and expressively flawless and fully captures dr jekyll in this one. THe actor would convey litlle or no "emotional tradgedy" because after all, this is his moment (holla if ya with me)

  • I like this, this is a musical performance he keeps the integrity of the story without shouting. Well done.

  • Ohhh Warlow!!! There will NEVER be another like you.

  • Of course - one of Warlow's best ever TV moments..... and it was on Hey Hey!

    Farrr-k

  • he's married with a daughter!!

  • Comment removed

  • He's definatly acting to the camera, he keeps looking at it, he's obviously experienced in TV, would like to see him on stage, fantastic voice, would be nice to see the difference a theatre setting would make

  • if you guys like this version be sure to listen to Brad Robins' version as well. every bit as wonderful. you will love it!

  • Did it, and to be honest I find it too weak. It doesnt have one tiny bit of the emotion that it should have. He would make a terrible Dr Jekyll :P

  • Listen to the one he recorded on the Jekyll and Hyde recording. He put so much power and soul into it.

  • Okay Bob's version and Warlow's version are aweome! ^^

  • This is the only version I like and he sang it the best.

  • He was the first I herd to singing and still the best I have herd/seen 12 diffrent times

  • Wow, that was so fantastic.

  • Perfect !

  • god i am tied now him and robert cuccioli for best versions

  • just appreciate them as individual unique artists

  • Such clarity! Just perfect and sophisticated!

    BRAVO indeed!!!!

  • He holds his reputation as the original vocalist high above the rest!

  • that last note is...supremely excellent!!!!!

  • His version is the best I ever heard. I'm glad I have it on cd instead of the broadway cast.

  • Oh My GOSH! I love this man - The best ever version of this song - he is perfection personified.

  • my god, he holds the last note for nearly 20 seconds!

  • perfect tecnique,great voice,good interpretation, bravooooo!!!!!!!!!!! thanks.

  • he was the original vocalist for the song

  • i love him:)

    perfect voice and just....mindblowing

    better than hasselhoff anyday

  • You can't mention him and Hasselhoff in the same sentence! Yikes!!!

  • hahah i lol'd, poor hasselhoff

  • too true. no comparison whatsoever...

  • It was the best moment that i had. :)

  • there is not another singer in the world who sings like this man, he is absolutely perfect

  • perfect!

    only word for it

  • this is perfect!

  • HOLYCRAPIJUSTWATCHEDHASSELHOFF'SVERSIONOFTHISSONGANDITSCARREDMEFORLIFE!!! *hugs the screen whilst babbling unintelligibly* my ears are bleeding... DX

  • dude...i know....

    i agree totally!

  • excellent!

  • I tuned in to this tv programme 'hey hey it's saturday ' to watch Ant sing 2 songs from the Jekyl soundtrack. He was AWSEOME as this clip shows. WHAT a voice. What I DIDN'T know was his partner in crime, Linda Eder also did 2 songs, I was BLOWN AWAY by her too and got to the vcr just in time for hr 2nd song. They are both the most UNDER-RATED singers in the world. If you like Ant, check out Linda Eder.

  • he is the best!

  • I totally agree! Anthony Warlow is truly the BEST singer in the whole freakin world. No one comes close!

Being a singer myself I hate singing this song because I compare myself to Warlow and I suck. lol

    He is AWESOME!!

  • no 1 will ever beat this! this is and forever will be anthony warlows song!!!!!!

  • he is my hero

  • Very good voice!!! Remarkable! Thanks!

  • best version hes ever sung of this! amazingggggggggggggggggggggggggg

  • Ammmmmazzzzinnggg!!! Gave me chills!!!

  • beautifully sang 5*

i also sing this and id love your honest opinions. regards dave

  • the best interpretation of that song ever!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • What a champion. A phenomenal voice. His Jekyll/Hyde (the album) has got to be one of the most technically perfect and well-rounded examples of singing around. You can learn so much just by listening. I met him in Australia recently - a true gentleman too.

  • In my opinion Anthony Warlow's singing conveys the range of emotion in the Jekyll/Hyde character better than anyone I've heard. The complete recording cd gave me insight as to what a great show this could have been. Unfortunately, the staging of this musical did not concur with my insight and I couldn't wait to leave the theater. Hal Prince did a great job with Phantom in telling the story on stage. If only they could've had the characters connect rather than seem distant, and sing onstage.

  • Oh my god that was the most amazing thing ever! He is superb!

The best singer i have heard !

  • *God.

and I agree! he is incredibly talented.

  • He also recovered from cancer

  • I agree. Best singer ever. That's why my son sang it for his High School graduation (Michael Conrad) here on Youtube. Warlow has no equal.

  • My hero. Best singer I've ever heard.

  • 18 seconds on that last note! bloody marvelous!

  • Wow! That's all I can say...

  • the most incredible voice I have ever heard. i love him!

  • wasn't he the phantom of the opera @ one point?

  • He was the original Aussie phantom in 1990, and is now reprising the role in Australia again.

  • I love the look he has on his face after that last note. It's like swimming up from the bottom of the ocean for a breath I'm sure.

  • OOPS I just figured out something, THE reason why this seems so effortless is because he is LIP syncing to the 1994 cast ALBUM he made..I listened to both and ITS exactly the same breathing phrasing everything.BOY he is good at lip syncing..watch the CONCERT version he does of this where he is singing live it doesnt look so effortless..AND BTW he is still the best singer ive ever heard im not putting him down for this...I just wondered why it looked so easy LOL!!

  • No, I don't think it's the same with the cast recording. Yeah, he did lip syncing in once in Anthem and then I tend to question his other performances too. But this recording is a little bit different in breathing and phrasing. For example, say, the last line, in the CD it's a non-stop "the greatest moment of them all~~" while here you can see and hear he stops to breathe before "them all". I've seen another version of him singing this song live. Not as perfect but very close to this one too.

  • Just played the cast album and this video at the same time, and I think because he stopped to breathe before "them all", the final note in this one actually lasts about two seconds longer than the 1994 cast album.

  • he is not lip syncing. There are many differences if you listen to it closely (and if you've listened to it as much as I have). This version I think is actually superior, which is impressive.

  • wow Maybe Im wrong It just seems so effortless:)Either way he is THE BEST

  • I think it's just that. Anthony Warlow is one of the greatest and hard working voices out there.

  • @sandiegosinger

He's definitely not lip-syncing. His vowels and phrasing here are different here than on the recording.

  • @sandiegosinger Well, the BEST singers have little to no tension in there face when they sing - its the cleanest, best way to get sound. So him having no tension could make this look easy!

  • Im actually speechless, I dont know what to say..it simply doesnt get any better than this..SO effortless..wow

  • Oh my goodness. He is the greatest.

  • was there even any effort involved? that is not fair.

  • 18 second last note?

  • love this song, makes me cry everytime!

  • this song was sung at a graduation in my school..

  • I don't get how anyone could sing this song and not lose their voice. I practice doing it and after the second time my voice is aching. Warlow is great!

  • wow best version i have EVER heard. such passion, total perfecion

  • wow...i love him!...yeah!...kip singing dad!

  • anthony warlow has one of the most incredible voices that i have ever heard and his version of this song takes my breath from me.

    Sent from my Helio Ocean

  • Perfect. There's no other word for it. Absolutely perfect.

  • All bow to Anthony Warlow. I discovered him having purchased the original two-disc(cd)set of Jekyll & Hyde. He BLOWS ME AWAY! Robert Cuciolli played lead on broadway. He is so far away from being a match for Warlow, it aint funny! A.W. is in a league only a few are a part of.

  • He is not miming here,i was in the studio in Melbourne and its just electrifying to see him live there,he is AMAZING!!!!

  • This clip is from hey Hey, its Saturday, a now cancelled Australian Variety show. i saw this when it premiered, and NO he isn't doing Miming...HE really holds the note....Watch Main Event...He does the same thing on it!! He is simplly AMASING!!!!

  • he's a great singer but is he miming this? No one could hold their breath for that long at the end and not be puffed

  • Why? This rendition sounds definitely different from the recording. Why should he pre-record it only for this performance? Even if it had been pre-recorded, he had to sing like that. Your comment that no one could sing like that is unreasonable. And Anthony said once that he'd never let his voice to be synthesized by computer.

  • are yous serious? Mr. Warlow has one of the greatest instruments this world has ever scene. He is a master at breath control and every technique known to man. Mr. Warlow would never let his voice be synthesized. And you would be suprised...if done properly it does not take that much air to sustain that final note...REALLY WATCH...and you will see just what he is doing...watch and watch and watch and listen...best way to learn

  • if you want to have a laugh at this song...turn over to hasselhoff's version gosh its like a speck of dirt(hasselhoff) compared to a god (anthony ..of course) ..wooh anthony!!

  • Great song being sang by wonderful singer!!!!

  • Is is wonerful. The number one J&H in my book. Why did he ever stop doing the part. I wish I had filmed it when I say it on brodway. Thank you for showing it to us all

  • I love him. As well as I love Michael Crawford.

  • OMG this is pure magic in song. Primal. If I'd known Hey Hey had stuff like this I'd have watched.

I was fortunate to see him play the Phantom on Tuesday. Warlow is music of the night. Passionate, powerful, very, very sexy - just can't understand that Christine choosing Raoul. At the moment I'm trying to track down the CD of Jekyll and Hyde. No-one at Chadstone had a copy. What are they thinking? :(

  • The show is Hey Hey It's Saturday. This is the performance I saw that first made me fall in love with him back in the 90s. ;)

  • This is an amzing performance... I went to see the phantom just to see him... what a disappointment when they announced "Ladies and Gentlemen, the role of the Phantom will be played by Simon Price"..

I seriously cried and was close to walking out.. Did not enjoy the performance althought Price did a good job..

    :(

  • I never got to see him in the roll of the phantom eather. I have herd him sing the parts. I think he is best as J&H I think his voice it so high for the Phantom

  • This guy is unbelievable! I love him!

  • OH MY GOD!!!

  • This recording changed my life!

  • holy crap.

  • OMG...every time I listen to Anthony Warlow it's like I'm having a religious experience. He is the best, hands down, no one else even comes close. You are a superstar Mr Warlow, take a bow.

  • Wow.

  • Yeah. They have that version in my school library. How shit is that? its like your meant to fast forward through the whole thing?

Michael Crawford isn't that great anyway.

  • I just found out... the cd they have is just a re-issue of the Original London Cast with Sarah Brightman and Michael Crawford.

Sucks really, cause I already have an original pressing record, and the original two-disc cd... they only have 1 track on each disc... each act is 1 track so you can't skip songs.

  • try to search this is the moment by erick santos

  • I love the musical, I love the concept album with Anthony Warlow... this is just heaven. He is the greatest.

  • hope he succeeds his fight against cancer. what a waste of talent. this cancer should be wiped off the face of the earth!! already claimed Eva Cassidy at age 33, one of the voice i truly admired.

  • Anthony has been cleared of the Lymphoma he was diagnosed with, and is currently re-living his pre-cancer role as the Phantom of the Opera, in Melbourne, Australia.

  • I know. I have A-Class tickets for August 18th.

  • Right, then you know he succeeded in his fight! Im there in December. A-class is the way to go. :D

  • I was actuallt gonna go the whole hog and get one of them $300 packages that included A-Class stall tickets in the first 15 rows, gift bags full of basically every bit of merchandise they have to offer including some CD's which I hope means they've made an Australian cast recording with Warlow, and some party thing, well a cocktail party pre-show. But they were sold out.

  • I think they were offering just the one cd with those packs, but I'm not sure if its an Aus version. You'd think they wouldn't have had the time to do a cast recording yet.

A good friend of mine is actually playing the second christine, so i might get to go backstage!!

  • Well, if you do, and you see Warlow. Give him my best.

Aren't most cast recordings done before the show officially starts up? And then sold later on?

  • wow...

  • OH...MY...GOD. Anthony Warlow might just be one of the best musical theatre singers in the world. That was amazing.

  • Personally I prefer the musical arrangement of the 97 recording with Robert Cuccioli, however Warlow is truely phenominal. I have the 94 recording of Jekyll and Hyde in which Warlow plays the lead role, I need to Know is such a phenominal song...a truely great performer, one of Musical Theatres leading male artists. A legend.

  • Anthony owns this song. Nobody can sing it as well as he can. Fantastic baritone voice with a really fantastic upper register

  • Its a shame they never put this show on Professionally in Australia... its a shame he never starred in any of the stage performances of the show. No one really knows why, no one buy Mr. Warlow himself.

  • Actually I know why. Jekyll and Hyde never sold. The presold about 8% of the avilable tickets, and made a financial descision to pull the show.

  • Hey, you know One thing, that is really amazing.... why this play allways fails in all the places they put it???. On bradway it was a financial disaster too, look at Wikipedia Jekyll and hyde if you dont believe me. I DONT KNOW WHYYYYY

  • I have done this show twice and directed it once. The answer is simple: although the music is wondrful the play's sequece draaaaaaags. Act I is way too long and several songs are either in the wrong place or not needed at all.

  • maybe, who knows

  • That's true. And so many of the songs sound the same ["Pursue the Truth" and "I Must Go On"] and some songs are just not needed at all ["Letting Go" and "Here's to the Night"]

But none of these cons to the show can overshadow the good: The plot isn't perfect but the music is downright amazing.

  • I agree this show dragggggggggggggs on but the music is so good! Espcially Warlow
