If I have to guess - They reached break-even because of the combination of growth in paying customers and cost cutting (fired expensive senior level engineers and replacing them with entry level). Firing founding technical team members is a practice generally accepted in VC backed companies. As an engineer myself, it is very hurting and feel that business folks trick us well.
