Out of interest, what sort of impact has your new lifestyle had with regards to cash savings?
I only ask as, I recently acquired a couple of shooting permissions and bought myself a high powered FAC rated air rifle and have huge success shooting rabbits and woodpigeons with it as well as the sq ft gardens I previously mentioned. This year we are putting fruit trees and a couple of bushes in etc so, we are hoping to ease the demands on our wallets, as well as benefiting from fresh healthy food.
@LCStreetPhotographer We have had a significant impact on our expenditure, cutting significantly our food bills. We still need to do some shopping but our aim is to squeeze that down to an absolute minimum. In the new year, we will be moving on to a rationing system, modelled on wartime rations. We did a trial run for 2 weeks in August and found it worked well. It's not just food bills we are cutting. We generate some of our electricity and will be getting a new boiler that burns wood soon.
Excellent series of videos you've been adding Johnathan.
I myself experimented this year with square foot gardening in our back garden, albeit on a slightly larger scale, we used three 6 X 8 foot beds instead of the 4 X 4 ft beds. We had great success with it. The original designer of sq ft gardening estimated that from a 4 x 4 bed you can get 160 plants which would be rotated. Naturally as our beds were bigger we had a greater quantity of food from it.
Dear Jonathan,
I'm from Holland and we don't know something like apple jelly. When do you eat apple jelly? Do you put it on toast, or eat it with meat?
Thanks for answering!
