Studying Wilfred Owen's poems in classroom isn't the same... you can't sense the poignancy, and because we study about 15, over time I felt that I became slightly desensitised after hearing the over-bearing drone of my uninterested teacher's voice, day after day... However, this truly moved me. So beautifully recited.
The first poem to really smack me across the face, when I was about 12. I'm still recoiling from it. Beautiful... atrocious, but beautiful. God-awful, just like Owen wants us to feel. I had no idea Kenneth Branagh was okay--he's cool in my books now!
Beautiful recited. I love this poem - so poignant and so powerful. This poem went straight to my heart; I felt the young man's bitterness and sadness and dispair.
Ken played Roosevelt with his useless polio legs in "Warm Springs." I think this aided him in truly feeling this poem's pathos.
Thanks for digging this up, Tetiousoldfools. Great stuff you come up with.

Thank you for posting this poem.
Branagh expresses it mightily.

Something about the way Kenneth says "his back with never brace" sends shivers down my spine.

Wilfred Owen nails the atrocities of War right on the head and Mr. Branagh knows how to express it perfectly.
