Isn't it bad for the tranny if one coasts in Neutral? I heard it's bad because there's no fluid being circulated and when you pop it back in Drive it causes extra stress on the gears.
ok this is something i have never seen before is he on the free way wile doing this and what dose this even do like i dont get it at all what dose he accomplishing by turning the car off wile going 60 mph or km
I heard that if you have an automatic it's bad to coast with the tranny in neutral with the motor off. My friend to me it causes the seals to leak in the trans cause there is no vacuum from the motoe, Is this true or is my friend talking out his ass?
I want a honda civic hybrid!!! Nice videos, i really enjoyed watching them i just have a question about this one though.. Why would you turn the engine off, wouldnt you want to regenerate electricity while gliding? maybe im understanding it wrong. Thanks!
the risk of having the steering lock on and not having power on your brakes and steering makes you a danger to anyone on the road. do not try this at all..
This particular vehicle has electric power steering and it is not affected by the gas engine being off. This is something the hybrid does anyway without any need for the gas engine.
The braking is fully assisted and active as well which makes any fears and warnings pointless and badly informed.
Like everything else in life, safety comes first but knowledge is the enabler for new opportunities. Definitely don't try this with just any car.
So, you have to accelerate to the top speed, put your foot off the acceleator, shift to neutral, turn the key to off (but not lock), turn the key again to ACC and when you reach the bottom speed, turn the key to run (but not start [that would start the engine, that's a no-no]), and put your foot on the acceleator to go to the top speed before you do the same process?

Do you put it in Neutral before you turn the engine off?
Is this the proper order of operations?: Put it in neutral, turn key off, then to position II, (free falling), key on, switch back to drive...

After the glide, do you restart the engine with the key, or just put it into Drive and let the tranny start it?
Thanks,

After the glide you power the engine back on and the switch from N to D.

And watch your key switch wear out real fast

I agree with the question by rynprov. Im kind of confused at what is going on, but do you think its possible to do with an '04 civic hybrid?

This is just too dangerous to do.

Your concern does not apply in this situation.
This particular vehicle has electric power steering and it is not affected by the gas engine being off. This is something the hybrid does anyway without any need for the gas engine.
The braking is fully assisted and active as well which makes any fears and warnings pointless and badly informed.
