People with negative comments don't understand the nature of Todd that is multi talented in his field and has several number one hits on the board..that man is tight.
Okay, I've liked Todd since the Nazz (especially the 'Nazz Nazz' album) and his early solo stuff. This tune is not why I like Todd. But the fact he does it is why I like him. He'll never sit still, and having just read 'A Wizzard a True Star - Todd Rundgren in the Studio' (a fantastically entertaining, insightful and inspiring read) I have a better understanding of why he does a tune like this. He's done so much brilliant... but he also takes chances. So just let the boy rock and roll.
I'm a major Todd fan but this comment is for Prarie Prince. He's an awesome drummer. I saw him with the Tubes (1980 Completion Backwards tour). He's amazing. No wonder my rock hero Todd uses him so much! Just got the book "A Wizard A True Star: Todd Rundren in the Studio" from my niece. A must read.
i LUV music and music and music...i think maybe TODD does to!! he has done so many amazing things on his own pop, rock, synthezier...whatever he does i luv...todd rocks...
idk, to me "Arena" doesn't sound like an arena rock album (other than this song, Strike). The songs are powerful and melodic, but I don't hear it as a sing along record. Just a great project from one of the cool classic rock masters....
I read all the above stuff in an interview that Todd recently did for the Arena album. It's just rock and roll with an ironic twist. Get it while its hot.
"Arena" is Todd's stadium rock album, however, lyrically, it's more than just another rock album. Lyrically, it's Todd's politcal stab at the politically incorrect state of America at this moment in time. Lyrically, he is light years ahead of AC/DC, but musically, for this album, he listened to the first Boston album (remember "More Than A Feeling"?) and bought Def Leppard's "Pyromania" album. The fact that "Strike" sounds 10 times more lethal than "Rock N Roll Train" is besides the point.
I wonder if anyone in that theater was tuned into todd's sense of humour? I doubt it - more likely they just thought he was playing an AC/DC cover. Todd is Godd.
Mate, if you missed 30 years of Todd eduction then its too late for the express course! This album is a tongue in cheek poke at all of the ARENA style acts...and no, its not my fav TR CD ever either, but I roll with his punches. On the other hand his previous CD Liars is amongst his finest ever work....so its always a rewarding journey with Todd. I bet people thought A Wizard A True Star was a little strange at first, but I guess you dont know that one either ?
Right you are. Didn't know it was supposed to be a Spinal Tap type thing. Maybe the band should have emerged from cocoons or had a 1:1000 scale model of Stonehenge on stage so fools like me would have "got-it", without it having to be explained to them.
I will checkout the Liars CD on your recommendation.
Well Todd has already lived the Spinal Tap life! Just check out footage from the "RA Tour" in the mid 70s.A word of caution on the Liars CD...its totally electronic....but once you look though the cheesy synth sounds, the songs and especially the lyrics are amazing. Check out "Afterlife" and "God Said".

If you ask me Todd should play a Warren Zevon song on his next apperance next week! That would show who thinks he is a punk!

I love Todd Rundgren, but this is absolute crap. Was he trying to get a producer gig with AC/DC?

This isn't my favorite Todd Rundgren style but I realize musicians need to constantly evolve.
I think I'll stick to the "Best of ....".

I love Todd, but this is clearly him mocking AC/DC, instead of improving on this type of music.
My biggest complaint about him over the years was when he phones it in like this.

i like seeing him ROCK like this. he's a multi-talented genius, though we all know that already.
