  • Actually it is not from "Rock Concert" (Globo), but from a program called "Concerto de rock" (Bandeirantes). The year is right, 1977. Wish more of "Concerto de rock" could be released here, it was a incredible program which used to feature live footage from UFO, Bad Company, Rare Earth, Uriah Heep and other rock acts.

  • i think i just had an acid flashback... thats what i think, everytime i hear focus

  • Wish there were more live footage from this period. Thijs and Jan together were WAY more than the sum of their parts.

  • Wow never saw this, people all over the world,if you have videos of Focus please post them.

  • Focus!!! Una banda fantástica. Sería muy bueno tener todo el recital.

  • Iam 56......started listening to FOCUS and buying their records around 1973....nobody like them......NOBODY........genius......madmen......musicians.....eternal beings.....( wish THIJS would watch my video on here....The Real Reason Why People Defend Religion)............I remain a soul forever inspired by their music

  • Muito bom. Alguém sabe aonde se consegue a íntegra desse show?

Somebody knows were is recorded this version?

  • I can't believe I'm gonna see them live next tuesday!!! I saw a movie of them playing here in Brazil this week and it was unbelievable. They're legends

  • Whatever Van Leer was on when he performed in those days must have been some great shit. He was obviously high during many of thesed performances but it sure didn't take away from him

  • MORE!PLEASE!!!

  • Anyone know where this footage originated from?

  • Yes. This is from a show which aired in the US. during the 1970's called Don Kirshner's Rock Concert. In fact, being the Focus fan that I'am, I saw this performance on TV. It was 1974 or 1975.

  • I'd guess '74 since Mother FOcus came out in '75 and they toured in support of this in 74. Do you know how long the song was in the broadcast? Live versions went around 20-25 min but I have only seen about 4:20 of a clip of this one.

  • @BestMusicExpert There is a 10 min condensed clip here on youtube

  • I would love a full audio or video of this show, this is one of the most inspired live versions of this song I have ever heard, plus its full version would've been about 22 min!

  • Thiiis is really something!! I used to have a cassette of this that I taped from the TV. I saw them 4 times in LA. The first time at The Whiskey a-Go-Go and that place is like seeing them in you F'ing living room, Focus 3 had just been released, absolutely brilliant players...and man were they loud! Thanks so much for the post!

  • I think I just had an acid flashback.....AWESOME !!!!!

  • This is the most like Doc Brown's hair I've seen Thijs sporting. Anyone know the name of this song?

  • Hamburger Concerto

  • This song is named Hamburger Concerto, which is also the name of the album. This song was on side b of the record (vinyl). It was composed much like their song, Eruption, from the Moving Waves album in that it comprised an entire album side, and was written in several pieces.

  • I wish I hadn't given away all my old 33 rpm's... I miss my Focus and my Thijs Van Leer albums (among others). Thanks for this video.

  • You got to love Thijs van Leer. Focus is like The Doors on steroids, but with true master musicians and without a wannebe poet. Great show!

  • @indivum I can't, nor would I add to, argue with or change a single word of your reply - and I was a Doors fan..................what an insightful post......

  • I've watched this for like 50 times in two days :-P Good thing youtube videos don't wear out... I hope :-o

  • This is amazing! Great music!

  • wow

  • What a fucking feeling! Great!

  • Check out the boots of the bass player, my girlfreind had a pair like those exactly the same not to long ago. Great performance by Thijs, like always.

  • This was from Don Kirshner's Rock Concert, which aired on Saturday nights here in the states. To think that we were priveledged to see such acts on television - for free!!! I actually have a crappy cassette recording of this same show, but one of my idiot friends knocked over a tray of empty beer bottles and glasses right near the 50 second mark of this vid. Does anyone know where this was recorded/ What club/venue?

  • Great friend you have!!!!! ehehehe

"Does anyone know where this was recorded/ What club/venue? "

    I´m sorry...I don´t know.

  • Thank-You! Thank-You! Thank-You! I remember watching this when it first aired. I was just a teenager and fledgling guitarist. I LOVED THIS BAND! Jan Akkerman still kicks ass! And Thijs is amazing! I wonder of Don Kirshner saved any of these vids? My idiot friends at that time were either into Led Zeppelin or The Allman Brothers. Those were great bands, but my buds could not get past the 'yodeling'. Goddamn morons. FOCUS rocked!!! (Do you have the rest of this gig on tape???)

  • Hi my friend

This is a television program homemade recording from Brazil, which was exhibited in 1977, called Rock Concert.

This program focuses the live at rainbow show.

Hamburgo Concerto is an little plus (extra) that came along, but incomplete. The recording on VHS is too old is much worse. I changed the audio on pro tools, because the original was not audible.

I edited this stretch and had to deal with the audio and video before going youtube, as were very bad.

    I'm sorry

    Rgd´s

  • @tucano66 Ah, ok entendi. I´ve always been a fan of Focus and did not know this video (or at least this part of it) existed. Too bad the whole thing is not available. Thanks again anyway for posting this wonderful fraction of this band´s talent. Thijs is simply amazing.

  • I'm not a fan of alot of the vocalizations but some are great. This one has some good stuff. La Cathedrale De Strausbourgh and Sylvia are 3 I love!

  • @guitarguy382 This should appear in one of the DVD sets. Look for the Hamburgo Concerto from Amazon's offerings..

I'm Sorry!!!!

  • @tucano66 Muchas gracias por responder!!! :-)

  • wow, that vocal work gave me goosebumps ! thanks for sharing it. (also like the audio mix)

  • I saw the genius 2 days ago live in Amstelveen. Is there any possibility that you have the full version of this in high quality ?

  • This is the Don Kirshner Rock Show. The end credits had 'No Hang ups' and Birth was also played. UFO and New Birth were also on the show.

I have seen a studio copy of the film recently, so it does still exist. It was a great show, and Don was as lugubrius in a tan leather suit. He even manages to name drop his pal Jerry Weintraub in the introductions (New Birth)

  • Thanks for sharing such a rare video. Their music is genius. I grew up in the 60's/70's this is like a time machine for me!!

  • Thanks, thanks, thanks, & thanks again!!!!

This is the way I remember them. There was either a Midnight Special or a Don Kirschner's Rock Concert TV show from about this date where they played Hocus Pocus, and the Hamburger Concerto - this song, in just this way - I'd been hoping someday to see it again, and this is a dream come true. The TV show had much higher quality video, maybe a DVD of it can be found someday?

  • I am happy for you. I also hope that music on DVD, but I do not believe that will happen.

    Who knows...

    Hugs!

  • My Favourite Band! THE BEST!!**********

  • This is unbelievable. Compared to earlier performances of this excellent and underrated song, it seems that the group has perfected their playing. Also, their live sound has greatly improved: you are virtually drowning in sound, and every instrument seems "in your face." I would LOVE to get hold of the entire performance of this whole show--if not, just this song. Thank you so much for posting, and long live FOCUS.

  • Thijs was a nutcase back in those days and still is!

  • Just incredible!!!!!

  • my god! So damn epic...i would give anything to have been alive then (and able to understand such amazing music, of course)

  • Caaaaaaaaara!!!! GRande, grande, grande!!!!!Rock Concert!!!!

  • Excellent stuff, I've never seen this before. Thankyou !!!!

  • definition of heaven....sitting in the front row at this performance, hitting a joint and feeling up the chick sitting next to me!!

  • i envy you :)

  • You lucky bastard :) It would have been so cool to be alive at 60-70, all the good groups were then.

  • where did this come from?..this is hot, please give use more(if you have any)

  • An old VHS tape of the show "Live at rainbow. This music came as extra. Me sorry, but I do not have anything else that is not on youtube.

    RGD´s!!!

  • I just meant to thank you!

  • Ok, man...thank you!!! My english it´s very bad!!! :º)))
