  • you left eye dominant?

  • @skizzerbo Yes...and shoot right handed! I do everything else left handed!

  • @rugersix damn im opposite, interesting

  • very cool rugersix. i love the Orthodox music. (being Orthodox and all)

  • @roudy1689 Thank You its actual Bulgarian Orthodox music! =)

  • @roudy1689 yup, i know it well. i hear it every sunday. ; -)

  • Love your Makarov videos.

  • @bfgguns Thanks again I appreciate you watching them! I had a lot of fun doing this series!

  • i dont know why the russians used it as a service pistol, but that would be one hell of a carry pistol,my dad has a Hungarian FEG PA-63 (im not old enough to own weapons yet) ive shot it,it is a fun little gun to shoot however because its so small after a few mags it starts to sting,i must say,for $200,its one of the best surplus pistols available, very helpful vid

  • Makarovs were deliberately designed to drop off in energy and velocity after short range. Rounds can drop after 40 feet. This was deliberate because the soviets didn't want to see a lot of collateral damage having had too much from the Tokarevs and their high velocity during city fighting in WW2. They asked Makarov to tweak his design because they anticipated heavy urban combat, as it turned out they were right. It is an outstanding home and personal defence pistol, nonetheless very accurate!

  • @Makarov1964 Thank You for this added info!

  • yeah how cares about the target.....but the target.....i said, I do not care, just enjoy the shooting I feel the same when ido the same group

  • @mantuve1 Yup...it's all about having FUN! =]

  • great video and loved the music =)

  • @Jaredontheloose Thank You! =)

  • what caliber is this makarov

  • @firefox8192 9X19 Makarov

  • I dont know if anyone has told you in the other comments yet. But you spelled "watching" wrong toward the end of the video. You spelled "wathing".

  • THANKS! =)

  • This looks like a sweet pistol, but does the 9mm Makarov cartridge have enough power to stop an attacker? Also, is ammunition plentiful in the United States?

btw, where'd you get that nice music? :)

  • YES.....

    and

    YES!

Hmm...free download but don't remember where?

  • Oh come on...only two out of three? :)

  • Medieval Church Singing

"Take ye the body of Christ"

    Bulgarian Chant

    You asked! =)

  • Makarov is the bulgerian army proud my father haved one of thees in hes army days realy cool weapon

  • Excellent! Thanks for commenting!

  • baikal 442 is a updated makarov. 12 rounds in the mag and a cooler grip

  • Nice easy shooting pistol. They can be very good shooters up close. The song is a little different for me. Just don't understand it, and for the most part I would rather hear no music playing in the background in shooting vids.

  • Yes it is! Well I disagree with you regarding the music it goes hand in hand with my vids, but to each his/her own. =}

  • is the trigger da or sa? im interested in one, been seing a few around for just over $200

  • It's SA/DA! You can cock the hammer manually if desired. Great gun and at $200 I would snap it up!

  • i am really considering getting one of these for an every day conceal carry gun

  • I think that is a fabulious consideration! =]

  • its either the makarov or a beretta Px4, since i dont think a 4 inch GP100 would be very practical for all day carry

  • @megadeth22885 Hicap with the Px4, that can't be overlooked. but instead of a makarov, look at the CZ82, it's a much better gun.

  • much better?... lacking all the class and history of the makarov?

  • i've got 2 videos comparing the mak with the cz82. why don't you give them a look. they're the same size, but the cz has better sights, grip, lighter recoil, 12 rounds instead of 8, more accurate and a better trigger... no reason to carry a mak when you could have a cz. not that i dislike them, but i never thought of a mak as being classy.

  • well let me ask this.. what goes better with my mosin nagant, AK-47? the makarov or the cz?.. i want to find an older russian made mak when they still had the fixed sights

  • @megadeth22885

what goes better with your rifles? i don't care. you said you wanted a carry gun. if you want a mak to keep your rifles company, then go buy one. but if you want a mak to carry, forget it and get the cz, it's a better gun.

    i'm done.

  • @megadeth22885 none of the imports have them they are extremely hard to find because for the import regulations there had to be adjustable sights.

  • the russian ones you mean... yeah, youre looking at $400-$500 for a russian makarov with the fixed sights

  • @megadeth22885 yes, you are correct my referring to the russians

Harry!

    lol!

  • I'm never satified?

  • You told "romancic09" to send you the Russian version of this Makarov. Therefore, the never satisfied joke!!!! : )

  • Got it!

  • Have you shot the PA-63??? I found one at a local shop, Ive been eyeballing it for a few weeks...Not sure if I should get it or spend a little more and get this gun.

  • If this is the Hungarian model???

    No!

Don't know to much about those!

  • lol i didnt even give this review much attention untill i decided i wanted a makarov.

know of any places i might be able to find a leather shoulder holster for it?

  • I sure dont but you might be able to find a universal type that would probably work!

  • My Mak is a Russian in 380ACP (9x17). I love it! It is one of my favorite guns to shoot. In fact I shoot better groups with it than with my full size M&P 9mm (another gun I love).

My mak has the adjustable sites but I would prefer fixed. The sites are hard to see. I have to stay in practice to aquire a quick site picture and focus on that front site.

I think that Mak is one of the best deals around, if you can find one.

Like the interesting effects and cam angles on your vid.

  • I think you are quite right!

  • Just some advice, I found that replacing the stock grip with some rubber ones really reduced the felt recoil and increased the comfort.

  • Thanks Doc good info!

These are awesome pistols one of my beeter acquisitions! =]

  • I love this gun. It's a great shooter. I like it much more than my friend's PPK. The only thing I don't like is how hard it is to find 9x18mm ammo and the location of the magazine release. Amazingly reliability and has a good feel for a compact. A sleeper hit like the CZ-75 IMO.

  • this gun is a classic like the luger or the 1911 but is easy to hide and very effective. sometimes i think that the ppk was bassed in this gun.russians are amaziing

  • Indeed! Thanks for watching!

  • My very first firearm was a Bulgarian Makarov not unlike the one displayed in this video, I bought it on my 21st birthday. Wonderful handgun - accurate and reliable; I can't think of single occurance that mine has given me trouble in 5 years of heavy use.

  • Excellent feed back! Thank You for adding this comment and for watching!

  • Is Russia or China still using these? Also, if you get the adjustable sight model, can you legally change out the sights back to the fixed? I know the adjustable gets them import points that makes them more "appropriate" for our civilian purposes (yawn). How odd the gooberment is! Also, what is a good way to decrease your overall group size?

  • I don't believe so! The adjustable sight model were civilian from what I found out later after making this vid. The military models are fixed sights. I don't know about swaping them out? To answer your last question...be a better shooter than me! LOL =]

  • That would make sense. I know that the BATF makes you have so many points, and various features, like adjustable sights, American parts and lack of certain features makes them score higher. Nothing like genuine military issue to me. I'm doing my qualification for CCW next month, and I can't seem to get my 1911 to shoot tighter than just barely keeping all the round in the zero cirlce of an IDPA target at 25 yards. I know that's 6 inches, not bad, but with other guns I can do much better.

  • I just can't figure out why I can't narrow the group down. We have to shoot five, reload and shoot another five at an IDPA target, get 80%, and get 90 seconds. Distance is 10 yards. I'm not worried I can't hit it, I can ace it no problem as fast as I can shoot, but I'm worried more about the gun. Could it be ammo choice? Recoil? Could it be the barrel? Me? Not sure. How do I know when groups are good enough? I can put 10 rounds into a nickel at 25yds with a Mark 3 Competition. Rules out some.

  • Wow! It's really hard to tell! Not sure where your doing your qualification for CCW, but does the range have any Range Officers that can help you out or any training programs for marksmanship?

Wish I could be of more help I just don't get out with any one gun enough times in a year to really work on these issues. I'm more in to the collecting end more than anything so most of my shooting is basically to see if the gun funtions properly.

  • Love the opening music and the film grain effect!

Based on your knowledge of the Makarov, which type do you recommend for prospective buyers in the year 2009?

  • Thank You!

Anyone you can get your hands on!!!!!!! =]

  • DO IT!!! =]

You won't have any regrets!!! =]

    Thanks for watching!

  • thats a realy cool pistol

  • I agree with YOU! =]

  • Hey R6, hows the accuracy of the pistol? Does it shoot like a full size service pistol or is it only good for close range shooting?

  • Best at close range! 50 Meters is the considered effective range!

  • Yuo can find them but not very easily and the price is hight than $200! When you say Polish are you meaning the P-64???

That's not a MAK but it's chambered in the 9mm Makarov round. Those are cheap and plentiful

  • do you know the performance with the p64

  • I don't thnk they perform that great at all!

I have one just for a collectable.

  • HA! I love the reaction, *Shoulder shrug/hands up* :)

  • YUP!!!!!! LOL =]

  • great review and one last question how accurate is it for the price?

  • Hmmm....that's up to the shooter!!! =]

I'm to left consistantly but had some nice groupings!

  • cool and i know how you said its hard to find the bulgarian models but what about polish or russian?

  • is there a part 2 coming out in the near future ?

  • YES! IT's in the works now!!!! =]

  • Reading about these, you get the impression they're everywhere and cheap, but I can never find one.

  • Ouag7 you bring a good point! the material on the web is dated no doubt! After I bought mine in 2005 a year later I didn't see anymore!!!! These are not as available as they once were. The guy I bought mine from had like three for sale! I wish I would have bought all three now!!!!! =O

  • Nice Mak and nice vid! I should get off my butt and do a video on my Baikal MP654K Makarov.

  • Thank You!!!!

    Baikal MP654K Makarov....Please!!!!!

  • why dont we ask our chech friends?i dont think theres a u sound in there just my opiniun

  • Comment removed

  • The "T" is silent so I'm told!!! =]

  • Rug I had one of those but practice didn't do me any good.I thought it a litle heavy for CCW and did better with my keltec So I sold it to my neighbor Good to see you back

  • Well they sure are fun to shoot!

Do you remember what yours was???

Like Russian or East German Etc.?

THanks been back for awhile so get caught up on some vids mate!!!! LOL =]

  • That's one cool gun. I've always said there is something about russian/eastern block weapons. They are eligant in an unusual sort of way.

  • Hey Scanor do you have these over there?

They are a very fine handgun one of Russia's better designs!

  • I have to stop buying, but would love to have that mak I do have the Cz82 and love it.

Also have the Cz52, what a cannon and believe it or not my carry gun is the Pa-63.

  • You and me both!

A MAK is a must to any fine Eastern Block pistole collection! =]

  • AWESOME! I wish where has a portuguese gun for you to review... I AM GOING TO FIND ONE AND GIVE IT TO YOU!!!

  • I would love to do one!

    Portugal Savage Pistol!!!!!!

    PLEEEEEEEEEEEEEEZE!!!! =]

    LOL =]

  • Oh that's a thought!!!! LOL I never thought about it that way...your right! =]

  • i see a mr ruger is awaken :P

  • Oh YES! =]

  • love the makarov. a great relic. another good vid rugersix.

  • A wonderful relic!!!! =] One I would be very comfortable using as a CCW!!! =]

    Thanks!!!

  • Lots of smoke comes out of the end when you shoot eh?

  • Might have been the Wolf Ammo!

  • Great great vid 5 from the vik

  • I'll take it from the VIK!!!! TAKK min gode venn! =]

  • My brother has a Makarov with a 380 barrel.

    Fun Gun.

  • Theres a nice conversion!

  • great video. If your consistantly off to the left you may want to drift your rear sight to the right just a tiny tiny bit. Even though there is a arsenal mark indicating site alignment, it can be wrong. I had to adjust mine because it was hitting to the left as well.

  • Good Point! As a collector I don't really get to spend the time with these as I would like to! I might try that though but would want to spend more time at the range making sure its not the left handed shooter who shoots right handed and is left eye dominant! =]

  • your left handed and shoot right handed??? wow could have fooled me.

  • Yeah! Strange ughhh???

  • been waiting for this one - awesome video!!

    Thanks dude!!

  • Thanks we got much more to cover on this fine PM!!!

  • nice handgun it looks very comfortable to shoot =)

  • Very comfortable! =]

  • great review=] cant wait to see your m1

  • Thanks were not quite done with this one yet! M1 is a ways out yet want to get all my ducks in a row for that one! =]

  • yeah haha so how much was your mak like $500 of so?

  • No!!!! Would you believe just under $200!

  • 200??@!??! GAH!!!!! lol, lucky bastard :D

  • Well only cause it was purchased in 2005!

I'll explain it in the next clip!

  • Roger that

  • thats amazing!!! it looks so nice for a 200 dollar gun!!!

  • Five Stars!!

  • Thank You so very much Mr Mad Bad!!!! =]

  • great video! I use fcp to edit, how did you get that old film look? btw, my girlfriend somehow got 2 rounds jammed in the chamber of her bersa 380

  • Thanks!!!!! I'm just using Windows Movie Maker that comes with "Crappy Vista"

How did she manage that one??? You got it cleared I hope??? =O

  • yeah. I have no idea what she did., It took some doing but I got the gun unjammed. giving her my 38 special snub revolver

  • I 'm with ya we don't ask how they did it we just fix it!!!! LOL =] Revolver is a grand idea due to the ease of operation. I will LMHO if you write back telling me she got two rounds stuck in the chamber and she doesn't know how it happened!!! =D I know it's impossible but....

  • Great review. I am so glad to finally see you review this one.

  • Doc we will get into more details in the next clip! Thanks!

  • haha i love the sound it makes.

  • I love the sound any gun makes at the range its called....FREEDOM!!! =]

  • Looks great. I want one of the Polish models. Two-Tone. Great video as usual.

  • These are much nicer than the Polish models! If yuo want a good review on those check out "Dietzeeeee" he did an excellent review on it!

  • Is the one you have a real Russian Makarov? Whats the difference anyway? Real Makarovs are expensive. I am looking at maybe a two tone PA-63? IDK though, I just want something cheap that I can mess around with and buy surplus ammo. Not like its a carry piece :-P.

  • Several countries used the Makarov or some form of it and all pretty much to Russian specs! This is a Bulgarian version! Thee difference would bee perhaps the finish and some have adjustable sights!

  • How much did it cost you? Is it C&R? Is it reliable?
