i dont know why the russians used it as a service pistol, but that would be one hell of a carry pistol,my dad has a Hungarian FEG PA-63 (im not old enough to own weapons yet) ive shot it,it is a fun little gun to shoot however because its so small after a few mags it starts to sting,i must say,for $200,its one of the best surplus pistols available, very helpful vid
Makarovs were deliberately designed to drop off in energy and velocity after short range. Rounds can drop after 40 feet. This was deliberate because the soviets didn't want to see a lot of collateral damage having had too much from the Tokarevs and their high velocity during city fighting in WW2. They asked Makarov to tweak his design because they anticipated heavy urban combat, as it turned out they were right. It is an outstanding home and personal defence pistol, nonetheless very accurate!
This looks like a sweet pistol, but does the 9mm Makarov cartridge have enough power to stop an attacker? Also, is ammunition plentiful in the United States?
Nice easy shooting pistol. They can be very good shooters up close. The song is a little different for me. Just don't understand it, and for the most part I would rather hear no music playing in the background in shooting vids.
i've got 2 videos comparing the mak with the cz82. why don't you give them a look. they're the same size, but the cz has better sights, grip, lighter recoil, 12 rounds instead of 8, more accurate and a better trigger... no reason to carry a mak when you could have a cz. not that i dislike them, but i never thought of a mak as being classy.
well let me ask this.. what goes better with my mosin nagant, AK-47? the makarov or the cz?.. i want to find an older russian made mak when they still had the fixed sights
what goes better with your rifles? i don't care. you said you wanted a carry gun. if you want a mak to keep your rifles company, then go buy one. but if you want a mak to carry, forget it and get the cz, it's a better gun.
Have you shot the PA-63??? I found one at a local shop, Ive been eyeballing it for a few weeks...Not sure if I should get it or spend a little more and get this gun.
My Mak is a Russian in 380ACP (9x17). I love it! It is one of my favorite guns to shoot. In fact I shoot better groups with it than with my full size M&P 9mm (another gun I love).
My mak has the adjustable sites but I would prefer fixed. The sites are hard to see. I have to stay in practice to aquire a quick site picture and focus on that front site.
I think that Mak is one of the best deals around, if you can find one.
Like the interesting effects and cam angles on your vid.
I love this gun. It's a great shooter. I like it much more than my friend's PPK. The only thing I don't like is how hard it is to find 9x18mm ammo and the location of the magazine release. Amazingly reliability and has a good feel for a compact. A sleeper hit like the CZ-75 IMO.
this gun is a classic like the luger or the 1911 but is easy to hide and very effective. sometimes i think that the ppk was bassed in this gun.russians are amaziing
My very first firearm was a Bulgarian Makarov not unlike the one displayed in this video, I bought it on my 21st birthday. Wonderful handgun - accurate and reliable; I can't think of single occurance that mine has given me trouble in 5 years of heavy use.
Is Russia or China still using these? Also, if you get the adjustable sight model, can you legally change out the sights back to the fixed? I know the adjustable gets them import points that makes them more "appropriate" for our civilian purposes (yawn). How odd the gooberment is! Also, what is a good way to decrease your overall group size?
I don't believe so! The adjustable sight model were civilian from what I found out later after making this vid. The military models are fixed sights. I don't know about swaping them out? To answer your last question...be a better shooter than me! LOL =]
That would make sense. I know that the BATF makes you have so many points, and various features, like adjustable sights, American parts and lack of certain features makes them score higher. Nothing like genuine military issue to me. I'm doing my qualification for CCW next month, and I can't seem to get my 1911 to shoot tighter than just barely keeping all the round in the zero cirlce of an IDPA target at 25 yards. I know that's 6 inches, not bad, but with other guns I can do much better.
I just can't figure out why I can't narrow the group down. We have to shoot five, reload and shoot another five at an IDPA target, get 80%, and get 90 seconds. Distance is 10 yards. I'm not worried I can't hit it, I can ace it no problem as fast as I can shoot, but I'm worried more about the gun. Could it be ammo choice? Recoil? Could it be the barrel? Me? Not sure. How do I know when groups are good enough? I can put 10 rounds into a nickel at 25yds with a Mark 3 Competition. Rules out some.
Wow! It's really hard to tell! Not sure where your doing your qualification for CCW, but does the range have any Range Officers that can help you out or any training programs for marksmanship?
Wish I could be of more help I just don't get out with any one gun enough times in a year to really work on these issues. I'm more in to the collecting end more than anything so most of my shooting is basically to see if the gun funtions properly.
Ouag7 you bring a good point! the material on the web is dated no doubt! After I bought mine in 2005 a year later I didn't see anymore!!!! These are not as available as they once were. The guy I bought mine from had like three for sale! I wish I would have bought all three now!!!!! =O
Rug I had one of those but practice didn't do me any good.I thought it a litle heavy for CCW and did better with my keltec So I sold it to my neighbor Good to see you back

megadeth22885 2 years ago

its either the makarov or a beretta Px4, since i dont think a 4 inch GP100 would be very practical for all day carry
megadeth22885 2 years ago
@megadeth22885 Hicap with the Px4, that can't be overlooked. but instead of a makarov, look at the CZ82, it's a much better gun.

@megadeth22885 none of the imports have them they are extremely hard to find because for the import regulations there had to be adjustable sights.
