@e0o9kii actually, Napoleon didn't do that. You know what Napoleon said about the french people in general (opposed to the UK people) ? He stated that "In UK, the head of the draggon is clever, but the tail is bad. In France, the tail is good, but the head is bad"
He was meanning the People vs the Politics& the Elites. Napoleon lost his last wars because of the incompetence of some of his Generals.
But the tail is GOOD, aka the Men on the ground. Just take a look about Dien Bien Phu battle
@canicheenrage in fact the berthier M16 was in thorie the main rifle after you have the lebel , and finally the mas36 but in fact the mas 36 usued only whive the elite troop the berthier usued by the troop of the fortress and the lebel was usued in second line the problem that is the blizkrieg when second line begin the first at the end of june 1940 when the french finnally stop the german the situation become desesperated whive not enought wheapon , and time to made new wheapon
I've always wanted one of these but they never made all that many. Which is too bad because I hear good things about them. Even if they are an odd looking rifle.
@ytykg That's how I describe my Remington M1917. Got the mauser claw, identical magazine, however it's cock on close like the Enfield. I prefer cock on close as apposed to cock on open. Just faster I find, and easier to decock.
At the time there was sort of an arms race, if you will, for the standard-issue bullet. This was one of the many candidates. In the end I believe the 8mm round won with the Kar98.
I have a question...I am looking to buy a Mas, I notice that it has the same sights as a enfield/fn-49 and i was wondering how do you line the sights up to make sure it goes where you want it to go just like sights on a mauser or a mosin. My friend owns a FN-49 and to me its just look through a hole.
They are all on the second hand market now. They can be found at online auctions, but they are hard to find in the wild.
My local gun shop carried surplus rifles and the owner just happened to be on the phone with them when they found a case of ten while doing inventory in one of there warehouses. They had been sold out for a couple of years at that point. These had just been misplaced. The owner of the shop bought all 10 for $50each , and I bought my two for $95 each.
Recoils isn't bad at all. It uses a 139 grain bullet, around the same as an 7,62x39mm (AKM) bullet, but has more powder behind it. The cartridge is the same size as a Swiss K31 round, in fact you can fire them in a Swiss K31, but I wouldn't recommend it.
It has a very smooth, fast action. IMHO it's as fast as an Enfield...almost. It has a peep sight that's very easy to line up. Having the bayonet carried inside the stock is very convenient for a military rifle. The only downside I know of is the lack of a safety.
cyberabraham, what is the point of having ammo or even having a gun if your not going to shoot it. There is no such thing as wasting ammo if your having fun with it.
I didn't say don't shoot it. I guess if it is exciting for you to hear the gun go bang, then have fun with that. Although, at the same time you can shoot at a target and see how it groups and still hear it go bang.
Any gun can hit dirt at 10 feet. Lets see the accuracy of this gun. That is what I am interested in. I bet it is no M38 Mosin Nagant. It probably groups real nice.
hey guys im looking for a good rifle im thinking of getting a mas36 if i vcan do you know if you can get one of these in the us and the same with the mas56(well the semi auto) i would prefer a ww2 style rifle or even a war rebuild if it looks nice.
I just bought one at a gun show. It is one of those ones that are in like brand new condition. With the phosphate finish and no paint on it. I have not seen a milsurp rifle in this condition other than another one of these. There have been a few of these floating around lately. Nobody seems to know too much about this particular batch of rifles. NO serial number or cartuoche or the stock. The inside and out is mint and the action and trigger are stiffer than a new broom. Any info?
Do you have any pics of it close up? I can give you some photos too if you want maybe we can help each other out a bit. I would like to know anything I can about this rifle. What is the serial Number?
What is the strangest about this rifle is the finish. Originally they would put on a phosphate finish then the black paint. There is some talk about the last rifles that the French were able to make before being overrun are missing the paint and serial numbers but I have no way of knowing what the story is on this. The mag well, bore, all bearing surfaces are virtually wear free and the phosphate finish is very unforgiving on wear surfaces and if is very stiff. So you have no cartouche either?
The refurbished rifle has no stamps on any type on the wood. Only the receiver, and bolt. It has a stamped floor plate and trigger guard. My war-time all matching 36 has numbers stamped on all the wood, a painted finish (about 85%+) and a "MAS 1944" cartouche on the right side of the butt stock. Along with a milled trigger guard and floor plate(also stamped matching).
No, refurbs, and post-war rifles don't have a painted finish.
If your rifle doesn't have a stamp on the butt stock. You can usually tell the around what year by the first letter(s) of the serial number. If you can get the front hand guard, and fore-stock off. The barrel has the year stamped on the bottom, toward the receiver.
does anyone of you know where to get these 7,5x54 ammo ? I got one since 9 years, only one package is left now and everyone i ask in the gunstores says : no way

MAS 36 looks nothing like a mosin nagant
TomaPartizani 2 years ago
Nice, smooth action. I have no idea what an MAS is but I think it looks somewhat similar to the Mosin Nagant.
NormanMatchem 2 years ago
It's actually based mostly off the Mauser action. They moved the lugs to the back of the bolt, and changed the extractor.
I guess the best way to describe it as a mix between the Lee and the Mauser action.

Is the French 7.5mm ammunition powerful?

if so does it use 7.62 (aka).308???

Very accurate. I think you hit the ground with every shot! Its a keeper.
cyberabraham 3 years ago
You know, I might be offended if I'd actually been looking down the sights, or even at the target half the time.
This video was to show off the action of the rifle, not the accuracy.
Also it hit the ground after it went through the target. Even if every shot had been on the mark they would have hit the ground.
ytykg 3 years ago
I was just trying to be funny but I just hate to see good ammo wasted.
