  • The owner of this vid needs to change the title right now...

    LaBrie.... very important

  • @SilentXStarcraft Done, thanks! ;)

  • James LaBrie nailed it on this one. You can see his true contribution to DT, because this sounds like his own creation.

  • cool this song!!! i liked very much!!!!

  • Love James LaBrie's solo project :)! He's awesome. Don't like Dream Theater tbh. So this was surprising to find ;)

  • @Woupme Fuck yeah

  • @Woupme Well, systematic chaos has a lot of similar styles, dark eternal night and constant motion are similar, im not sure theyll be the same, but its in a way...

  • This song is so... Vicious.

  • James LaBrie's new album sound is pretty close to a band called "Amaranthe". This is the kind of blend using elements from melodic death, power and heavy metal!. However this still sounds good!.

  • incredible musicians in this solo cd ,Labries vocals are better than his DT vocals , if he would just hit the notes like hes doing here, than his operatic inflections in DT ,

  • The guy on the cover is clearly Franck Dubosc and Neo from Matrix. The one in the background is obviously Samuel L. Jackson (you noticed him, of course.) Bisous

  • i just love the drums at the end :D :D

  • much better than systemathyc clouds....

  • @NitroCoasters Soilwork is an underrated band? I feel like they're a pretty household name for people that like metal =p

  • way better than DT.

  • Why wasting time comparing James solo proyect and Dream Theater when you can just enjoy both?

  • I don't think this surpasses DT at all, this feels far more commercial. Musically, DT is far superior, both in feeling and technicality. Don't get me wrong! I love this!

  • i Love this song .. i do not prefer this over DT tho i love dream theater and all its members and all their side projects their all so good <3

  • James LaBrie you will always be my hero in music. and yes ive herd of Soilwork and i really like them too but ive been a fan of Dream Theater and James LaBrie for WAY longer. They will always be my #1 favorite band of all time. But thats just me.

  • wow wow wow I am delighted

  • wooow it is amazing song you know live Rock... forever Lol...

  • @cabritinho what the fuck what? that I prefer this to DT? Is DT a cult now or what that I have to prefer them to anything else?

  • @azacamis I place DT and JLab's solo proj. equally.

  • Everyone who likes this, PLEASE check out The Panic Broadcast by SOILWORK, they are a very underrated band, and I think musicaly they are even to Dream Theater! Not trying to spam, but they are really underrated.

  • @NitroCoasters I already know them and I've got their albums, included "The Panic..."! Great Band!

  • @NitroCoasters ive got all albums :D yes, youre right! panic broadcast is a masterpiece.

  • @NitroCoasters soilwork are underrated??????haha...they surely kick ass but underrated?

  • @NitroCoasters Soilwork isnt a underrated band, they sell out arenas all over the world and have been doing so for years. They are very respected within the music world, and a great band! :)

  • @NitroCoasters I know soilwork for a pretty long time now, and in my opinion, the panic broadcast was their worst album, i liked stabbing the drama, but the panic broadcast just wasnt it for me..

  • @NitroCoasters Same here. I love Soilwork. Love the song The Thrill, Akuma Afterglow, and Let This River Flow...

  • @NitroCoasters they're old stuff is way better. they just sound like every other band from Sweden, and those ripping off the Swedish style. still decent though.

  • Peter Wildoer <3

  • I rather listen to this than DT. Seriously it's more melodic. Prog don't need to be complex just for the sake it

  • @azacamis this is dream theater dumbass its just the singers solo album

  • @shayner67681 this is not DT dumbass. There's no Petrucci, Myung of Rudess. If it is just because of Labrie, then this is also Dali's Dilemma, if you know who that is.

  • what tuning is this in? it seems lower than B

  • @juswannawatchthings I'd say Bb by ear (like In Flame or Sybreed)

  • @jeromesnail thought so, cheersies :)

  • who's the guitar player?

  • @gotcalves Marco Sfogli

  • this is from God?

  • Dream Theater's stuff is amazingly awesome but this? this is weak as hell. I dislike it because this sound like disco nu metal. Only solos are pretty sweet

  • ‘Static Impulse’ is James Labrie’s Best Album to date.

  • @Disturbedvp best solo album only

  • @GM0530 Sorry bro, but I disagree.

  • @Disturbedvp you think static impulse is better then images and words

  • @GM0530 Don't get me wrong I like Dream Theater, but ''Static Impulse'' is my favourite Labrie album.

  • @Disturbedvp i tried to buy static impulse but could not find it. any suggestions?

  • @GM0530 Yeah man try cdwow(dot)us I just had a look and they have it there.

  • @Disturbedvp Thanks

  • @GM0530 if you have an ipod and itunes you can find it there thats where I purchased it from.

  • @godofthunder67 Thanks

  • @Disturbedvp Yes you are wright from this singer is the best album, i like is voice in this type pf music.

  • @Disturbedvp ??

  • SHIT! >.< AWEOME

  • I don´t F*cking like Growls! Most songs of this album sound similar or its is just me?

  • @OLord2 You need to consider just how much more emotion can be put over by using screaming than in normal singing. In the context of this song & the other songs on the album, the growls are there just to get across emotion. It isn't the main vocals, so instead of listening to it like it is - listen for the emotion behind the words. Believe me, it changes your perspective.

  • @BritishStarCraft I´ll try to understand your perspective, but for now I´m really not very fond of growls

  • @BritishStarCraft i agree. i never really liked screaming until i got into Opeth, and now i love it. btw, Starcraft FTW

  • @OLord2 i thought the same thing so its not you

  • one of the best singing voices ive ever heard....

  • Amazing how well Labrie recovered from the poisoning.. he sounds amazing! I thought he did great on BC&SL, but he seems to have improved even more! How promising for the album that's in the works right now.. ^-^

  • This is pretty bad. Comparing this to Dream Theater is just absurd. And to the people who say the side projects are surpassing their actual work as a bad, you're retarded. How can something this simple surpass anything that they have done as a unit? This is just generic heavy metal, nothing to it. 4-4 time signature, something that you will rarely see in a DT song, but will always see in EVERYTHING else.

  • @uzumaki1994 To be honest, LaBrie's last album was bit more nuanced and experimental than this one, which does tend to be more straight-forward metal. But 'bad' is entirely your opinion, I think it's still pretty fantastic.

  • I've noticed that DT's side projects are beginning to surpass their work as a band.

I say chill the #@!* out, let Mike Portnoy come back, and work on the band.

    Regardless, this album outright rocks!!

  • Is it just me, or does he look like Steven Colbert?

  • I suppose Dream Theater have after all these years used their creative potential.

Their zenith is long gone and now they should depart!

  • @Raouliboy Yeah, why not? I mean, they're the most successful and acclaimed they've ever been, and have a huge following, but what the heck, they should quit because you've decided they're done. Thank you, king of all music!

  • i like the triple pickin its awesom

  • I'm so happy James had the balls to step into this genre.

Also, Marco Sfogli is one hell of a guitarist. Balls of steel on that guy!

  • It's the first time I can't distinguish the guitar solo and the keyboard solo, I think the first one is guitar and the second keyboard but sometimes, the notes or playing lead me to say the unlike

  • so fucking bad

  • nice tune. too bad "misled" is spelled "misled."

  • I read the name James Labrie and decided to buy the album.

  • love <3

  • If DT's still gonna release a next album, I hope Petrucci's gonna change his sound something more "raw & agressive", at least like the guitarist does on this record.

Allthough this isn't still the best g. sound for me, it's deffinitely better than Petrucci does have on most of the DT albums... then I would begin to listen to them again^^

  • @000Mariat000 Personally I like Petrucci's tone a lot more. It's much more melodic. Same with Marco's on his solo album "There's Hope". It's a personal thing though.

  • @000Mariat000 The guitar on this is good, however. If Petrucci changes his style nothing good can come of it because Petrucci's playing is PERFECT!

  • @kancamabo

I never said it was not :-D

I was not talking about the way he plays, but the sound he has

  • @kancamabo I agree. Marco Sfogli did an amazing job on this album, and I think his style fits it better than JP would.

  • i still don't like death metal or the "Death Growl" but after listening to this album 100000000000 times i have an exception for Wildoers growl...

  • Fuck you Portnoy!

  • This sounds like dream theater, merged with killswitch engage. Why the fuck did he even bother doing a solo project?!?!?!?!

  • @Szchophreniac What? Sounds nothing like dream.

  • @Szchophreniac dude thats a kick ass combination that I want to hear so I'm glad they made it. I hear Soilwork in there too. Good shit.

  • Five bastards don't have a clue about a badass metal song...

  • disappointed in the lyrics.....

  • love it

  • Motherfucking awesome song

  • I think, if this were the new Dream Theater album, then it would be labeled as the best one since Metropolis II.

  • @maurillion This is excellent music and highly enjoyable, but albums like Six Degrees of Inner Turbulence, Train of Thought, and Black Clouds and Silver Linings are on a whole 'nother level. Additionally, comparisons are rather ineffective given the vast difference in style and genre between these artists.

  • Isn't Brie a cheese?

  • @SuperMefisto6666 yes.

and it is also the last four digits of his last name.

you are not clever, you are stupid.

  • @diddleo

    An you're an ass.

  • @SuperMefisto6666

if i had a dime for everytime ive been called an ass, or a douche, or a prick

    id be a fuckin millionaire.

  • @diddleo

    I don't doubt.

  • @SuperMefisto6666

    good to hear

  • Nothing like Dream Theater, and i like it! *i like DT also*

  • I'm greatly surprised. Unexpected sound, nothing similar to Dream Theater. Fantastic work, James!

BTW - if the new DT will sound something like that, that will be a CHANGE for sure.

  • Love the metalness of this side project that LaBrie is doing. Just cuts right through all the BS and get straight to the metal. Great Job James LaBrie.

  • I love how so many people are making this drummer out to be amazing...he's good for sure... but this style of drumming has been around in sweden for...oh maybe 20 years now and not that impressive. Portnoy had a balance in his drumming. If you like this drumming guys then listen to Sybreed, or even Arthemis. And the only reason DT even got heavy at all was cuz of Portnoy.

  • @ESPFREEKSAK your damn smart. arthemis is the shit! and yeah this guy is no where near mike's level but hes not bad.

  • @thedrumandbassace - Honestly dude portnoy is my favorite drummer but even he admits technically he is not the best with rudiments and other things like that. this guy might actually be better in that department. These songs are fairly straight forward not a lot of odd time if any. Interesting debate. What do u think of Jason Rullo?

  • @AGExCORE while mike portnoy is one of my favorites Rush and Sikth really have some of the best drumming ive heard. and jason rullo of symphony X is simply fantastic kudos to you for knowing him

  • @thedrumandbassace - Yeah Symphony X is great. Rullo studied with Tommy Igoes Father Sonny. so his hand technique is legit.

  • man, the guitarist is amazing, a fucking beast, also the drummer. Good fuckin' job James it's a killer album!

  • This whole album is absolutely killer! Nice work James!

  • This dude blows Portnoy away!

  • Maybe Dream Theater will hire this drummer, and then put out an album that's really heavy, not just tries-to-be-heavy-because-of-Portnoy XD

  • @Justice4AllOne I reckon they'll go down a more light progressive root, away from the heavy stuff, that was Portnoy I think. Could be wrong though!

  • @moogle92miller They've always had a heavy element, but I feel like Portnoy was pushing it too hard, which made it sound forced. I think that without Portnoy the band can get brutal when they want to without it sounding like they're trying too hard to be heavy (like the second half of A Nightmare To Remember, for example).

  • Everyone is saying DT will go back to their prog days without MP...i hope they release something like this not only cause it would be badass but also to piss mike off haha

  • I can't listen to this song anymore, because the badassery released blows away my house.

  • @Arcanislomnipotent My Landlord asked me to stop listening to this album, It was causing the paint off of peoples cars in the parking lot to crack and blister....

  • ur an idiot the drumers screaming is fucking badass and he can play drums like a mother fucker ur just some jackass that thanks you r better than ever 1 else ,!,,

  • The drummer needs voice lessons, or stick to the drums.

  • Wow, I kept seeing this album around and kept thinking it would be some crappy hair prog but it's actually good... Just wish there was more screaming.

  • One of the best songs of the genre in soooo much time. (Symphony X... different genre btw XD)

  • The only problem I have with JL is that he is not letting his range be seen much like he did with old DT albums like Images and words and Awake. he has such an amazing voice and it should be shown off.

  • @Bonzophuebes10 James intentionally focused on signing within his natural range for this album, rather than going for all the high notes all the time. He also placed a huge emphasis on vocal melodies, which shows throughout the album.

  • refreshing!

  • Epic

  • Me like

  • I don´t like the 2nd singer on the album.

Destroys the atmosphere in my opinion.

  • Why does James solo material sound better than DT's last few recordings???

    Maybe its just me

  • @CavemanJesus4Life I think the reason may be that James has most of the creative control in his solo projects while MP and JP have the most creative control in DT. And imo, i think its gonna be easier to make a song or your vocals sound good if you're the one that created them both. I think its great for james to do the side projects so he can have control of the group instead of the other guys. I mean i love all the guys in DT but James has to do somethin he really wants to from time

  • @CavemanJesus4Life I think DT should let James write with them. Now with MP gone they should let James write too. That'd be sweet.

  • @FranLesPaul he does write

  • GReat prog metal!!!! :)

  • If you have patience, it really grows on you. There are only 3 'bad' songs in the album imo, 'One More Time', 'Dr Jekyll or Mr Hyde' and 'This is war' everything else has really good vocals and instrumentals.

  • The outro to this song is fucking amazing.

  • sounds slightly like rob halford (Older Stuff Of Course)

  • KILLER stuff.. !

  • What a moth3&f#ckyng song!!! It seems like an 18-wheeler truck no brakes on the damn road!!! What an smashing song!!! Tremendously "sharped" and heavy! millions of thumbs ups!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • What a moth3&f#ckyng song!!! It seems like an 18-wheeler truck no brakes on the damn road!!! What an smashing song!!! Tremendously "sharped" and heavy! millions of thumbs ups!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • 'that's pretty cool that he has Darkane's drummer for this album. that drummer is a monster.

  • @scarsunseen24 indeed Peter Wildoer is a FUCKIN BEAST!And the band(Darkane) aswell

  • Labrie isn't the single greatest singer anymore but just the uniqueness of his voice makes up for it.

  • Killer.

  • This song is f***ing awesome!!!!!

  • I'm really not a fan of growling, I prefer an actual sung melody. However Labrie and Wildoer really do have a great chemistry with each other on this album. Awesome!!

  • Great album, just bought yesterday, my only complaint is the screamo growling.. Labrie's singing is to good to have to add in screamo vox...

  • @xShadowKRWolfx

Please don't mock my country with those bands :D

  • @Palikka92 no kidding! lol

  • yeah, i wasn't expecting much, but this is pretty fuckin sweet.

  • Better than hiss work in DT as far as I'm concerned, I may actually buy this

  • my God. This is fuckin' awesome.

  • click on play & fell in love with it .

    brilliant !

    \m/

  • @xShadowKRWolfx don't forget Kalmah and Kiuas.

  • ohk, admittedly I was expecting sub-par work from Labrie, I wasn't a BIG fan of his last solo effort....but this is great...it just kicks a whole lot of ass, vocally, musically and sonically, my doubts of Labrie's vocal abilities have completely diminished upon hearing this

  • Wait, what? Melodic Death Metal much?

  • @KannonballKorpse that's the first thing that hit me, too. Gothenburg style, similar to Soilwork or something. I'm not hating it, personally - probably better than his last solo effort.

  • Comment removed

  • So this song and James LaBrie in general are fucking awesome! Perhaps, he'll get this drummer for DT?

  • @Sonjuro197 hopefully!!! i think its mike mangini unless it changed and i wasnt told. hes a great drummer

  • @OfAllTheyHad The drummer is Peter Wildoer, he's an extreme metal drummer. He played with Pestilence, Old Man's Child, and Darkane among others. He was brought in because Mangini was unavailable, and because of his ability to growl.

  • perfect balance of LaBrie and the growl. Some people don't like it, but I think it fits really well here.

  • @CNorrisBiggestFan yeah it fits great!!... one of the best song from labrie i've heard

  • is the drummer from soilwork?

  • @megarocko94

Thats probably why I like it so much because it's slightly like Soilwork

  • @megarocko94 no from darkane

  • @wowthatsheavyshit oh true. thanks for the info.

  • I heard the first 10 seconds of this song and decided to buy the album. Yay Labrie!

  • i hope that dt give more space for james to compose now that mike is out of the band! this album is a proof that james is awesome!

  • Wow this is straight up hard rock, this kicks ass

  • I love this song.

  • hey this is pretty good!

  • Ok two things: 1. Hairtas are awesome :) 2. Most practical use of blasting I've ever heard

  • this album is awesome

  • Music is a lottery. I mean it's fair enough that Dream Theater doesn't have much mainstream success because they write 20-minute plus epics. This in the meantime is perfectly accessible, better than many metal bands doing well (e.g. A7X, Disturbed, etc.) and gets no exposure.
