Are you sure they didn't fight when you weren't around? I mean...they are solitary, right? Even siblings and breeding pairs cannot remain together.

Yes, since birth for they are brothers. They were together for
2 years + 10 days (could had been longer if not one of them got sick).
Both of them lived for another ~ 5 months after I separated them.
