  • Jake braking past 1,600 rpm is bad for the motor. Jaking for long periods of time at high rpm will heat your exhaust up, which can cause problems in itself. As long as you maintain a moderate rpm, there will be no damage. It's amazing how many internet mechanics there are here.

  • nice

  • you just keep jakin' if everything holds together

  • wat`ll happen it you ride your jake too long??

  • I honestly don't know.

  • Ok thanks for the help nice video tho

  • @Hotrodx199 I know that if you Jake shift the truck, it wipes the cam shaft away. It Flattens it out. It sounds cool when you here a Pete or kenworth jake shifting, but it is bad for the motor

  • @Thesouth0boyz You will stop..!

  • lol but that would take like along time if you were traveling down hill.

  • to answer your question nothing living in british columbia my dad pulling the hills and then going. the only thing that would happen if you ride your jake to long is you might go deaf is its a old CAT like this one or the monster 3408D. jakes to fail now an then when your trucks has thousands of miles on it your jake spring will brake. but usually a good engine like a detroit or a cat they can stop you on the hill going down it so you dont leave it on for long anyway hope this helps you a little

  • I gotta say, those ISX Cummins motors will just about throw you out the window with the jakes on.

  • @Hotrodx199 i do have to agree with you the new isx does have a great jake but there unreiable just to many things keep braking on them.should have don more test and run it threw it paces. like cat and detriot.

  • Can't you loosen the jake so its less power full? We did that on our 1981 Kenworth T800 Gravel Truck.

  • usually when your jack is turned on theres another switch beside it that has the numbers 1,2,3 its a toggle flipping the switch to the down position to 1 thats a very low setting usually when hauling something some very light or bob tailing. setting 2 pulling trailer m/t or lightly loaded and 3 is when your loaded to the nuts and need the pull holding power the motor provides so u can change the holding power on jakes

  • @nazarethfan89 On our 1981 Gravel Truck, theres only 'High' and 'Low' setting but we use high all the time even when were empty because it doesn't hold us back that much and also its an older rig so the jake's loosen'd up.

  • @DieselSmoke92 well as long as the jake still works and your no a run a way truck going down a hill its to use it on high guessing it being a 81 i guessing theres a rebuild in the future gotta be a good truck if you guys have had it for this long what make is it?

  • @Hotrodx199 I love the new ISX motors. I am a Caterpillar fan, but I think that the ISX's are better then the C15's. Give me an old 3406E, those runs forever. My favorite motor by far

  • @WaWagasman i have a 3406E and the first rebuild i did was at 450,000 which is way too early in my opinion, now at about 750,000 after the first rebuild its giving me signs again..im definatly going with an isx for my next engine

  • @702hyerider your 3406E needed a rebuild at 450,000?? Damn, that is way to early. I like the nex ISX

  • @WaWagasman thats what i said, i always take really good care of my stuff and i had warrenty until 500 k, but just as any warrenty the assholes found some little shit to not cover it

  • @702hyerider Yeah man you aint lieing. They don't want to honor there warranty. What excuse did they tell ya?

  • @WaWagasman your not gonna beleive this lmao i change my oil every 10 k miles and they wanted the reciepts, well i had lost a couple of them so it looked like some of my oil changes lasted 20 k. its just rediculous

  • @702hyerider Ahh, that shit blows! i would be soo pissed. I mean look, I am a Cat guy. I love the tourque they put out, and I love the sound of em. But the fact of the matter is, is that Cummins' ISX has more power, more tourque and better fuel economy. I was talking to to an O/O who was driving a W900L with the ISX, and he said that he was getting around 6- 6 1/2 miles per gallon. and Cummins parts a hell of a lot cheaper then Caterpillar parts, you know this first hand

  • @WaWagasman i cant imagine what would happen if u changed ur oil every 20 k miles but they went with it and used it as an excuse

  • @702hyerider 3406E's are exspensive to rebuild. What's it end up costing you? Like $10,000 or $15,000?

  • @WaWagasman yea it was something like 9500 at kw to rebuild. wow 6.5 is great for a w9, i had one i was lookin at buying with an isx but i thought about the mpg it would give for so long they ended up sellin it. my cousin just bought a 389 with an isx he said when hes pullin hills it goes down to 4.1. thats harsh

  • @702hyerider You're right. Caterpillar parts are very exspensive. Cummins has really good fuel mileage. 389 with an ISX? That's a bad ass truck man. 4.1 mpg?? Damn, that is hard on the pockets

  • @WaWagasman she probly boogies on down the road though lol

  • @CustomDeluxe1984 Lol, Most definatley brotha

  • @Thesouth0boyz nothin at all..its nothing more than engine compression slowin down your truck eventually you will stop

  • C12 even with a muffler has nice sounding jakes!

  • That is like gooood music!

  • The 3406E is overhead-cam, like the 1673, 1676 and 1693.

  • Is that right? I do know that you couldn't get jake brakes for 1693's because i guess they didn't find a way to make them work with double overhead cams. You could get them on the 3406A pre combustion though which is like the 1693 i believe.

  • Yes, sir.

  • Very good video!!!

  • Great! Steep and long hill :D
