remember riding the Dinkiy(cable car).no ladies could stand on the steps.ladies had to sit dow.the driver would shout"will some gentlemen get up for the ladies.this cable will dot move as long as the ladies stand outside"for 15 cents it was a could form of transportation.
I have GOT to go there someday :D It's such a beautiful city. Those cable cars look fun to ride! And I love the San Franciscan firetruck at the end :)
@BlondeCurlsBlueEyes The city is actually pretty dirty compared to other cities like San Diego and Chicago. It was surprising how much garbage is in the streets. But the main touristy roads do have a lot of nice architecture, though there is not much to do aside from seeing the Golden Gate Bridge and Alcatraz.
My favorite city! My first visit was in 1969 when the hippies were there, and I've been back probably ten times since then...........last time just a few months ago. I always get the feeling of everyone being so happy and content there. I've always wanted to live there, but just way too expensive. I live in Boston next to the ocean, so it's a second close to SF.
@LimeWaveVideo: Yes, we had a lot of fun. Rufus, our driver, just loves being out there interacting with the people. Perfect guy for the perfect job...
ahh yes the cable cars at san francisco and lombard street. i went there this year on the 3rd to the 6th of august. very great time i hope you all enjoyed you time at san francisco. =D
I used to ride that cable car to school back in the 1960s. It cost me 15 cents a day to ride and at that time women were not permitted to stand on the outside; we had to sit down. Things have definitely changed since then!
Incidentally, where you got off at the end of the line is across the streeet from the Buena Vista pub, where Irish coffee was invented.
