for people who jailbreak, heres some quick tips.

1. Disable Multitasking, reboot. INSTANT SPEED DIFFERENCE :D

2. Disable home screen wallpaper, dony have to, but the speed is increased a little.

3. Remove some launch daemons (search on google for safe ones)

Another I've found is to go into Settings - General - Accessibility.

Then turn off all options (unless you need them, you prob won't) and chose "Off" for 'Triple Click Home Screen Button'.

Multitasking is sweet fast now, as is waking from sleep, unlocking and basic usage.

Note I am using an iPod touch 3rd Gen, so the setting categories/names and what not may be different for iPhones or other models.
