i really like this song and would love to learn it if you could possibly make an instuctional video i would love it and im sure alot of other would to
@JuliaMarvel Yes there are two pinched harmonics at 2:09 - I think there is only one on the recording at 2:09 - so that's me if it doesn't sound good, and if it does, well that's Billy!
Awesome, I was driving home from an upstate NY fishing and did some recording with ZZ Top in the back ground. Though I would find this song and try to learn it, this fellow is a tough act to follow.
Everything about this video is perfect, The guitar is one o the nicest I've ever laid eyes on.
@brimis820 yes great gibson les paul gold but i like the gibson explorer this is my fav guitar with the fender strat and the les paul of course and the gibson SG like tony iommi from black sabbath used to play it
@brimis820 thanks brother! There are some mistakes here - so don't worry about perfection, just have fun with it - and thanks, my guitar she is a keeper.
Hey DirtySteve, no problems! :) I allways like to praise when I see a truly good guitar player, with a nice setup (however, it's not often :)). Not only does your guitar sounds exceptional - unlike most today's Les Pauls - but you also play like a pro, with articulate chops and very good timing. The song seems simple at first glance, but many "shredders" would fall down after only few seconds of playing it. :)
These 2 guys that gave thumbs down, must have been plain jelaous. lol
Real Nice. Good video for learning Billy's little suttle riffs in-between 1/2 chords and so forth. Its like Mr. Gibbons writes his songs so 1 guitar cxan get away with playing live (but of course his studio stuff is loaded with overdubs).
Jimmy Page on the other hand, well, we all know how Zep sounds live, awefull!
That's pretty impressive, DirtySteve! Checked out your page...man, all your ZZ stuff is dead-on accurate. How you figured all those Gibbons half-chord voicings is beyond me. I know it must have taken lots of work on your part. Thanks for sharing and educating us man.
Thanks for the get back. I put a few upgrades on my Sg. Orange drop caps, cts pots, tonepros bridge and tailpiece. It's as close to a customshop as you can get. I want to drop the PG's in my Traditional LP. I dropped BB's 1and 2 in the Sg and it sounded to sterile. No body or richness. The 57' s are the best so far in the SG. Your guitar is the holy grail man. Have you seen zz's cover of "Dust My Broom?? Pearly's tone is heaven. Happy Holidays man...................
Mine is a historic custom shop LPR-7..so a later Burstbucker too.. I've thought about trying the PGs and I think they would sound wicked in your SG, but let me ask around too and I'll get back to you on this.
@DirtySteve232 Thanks for the pup info. I thought i heard of all the burstbucker family members. 1,2,3, pro.Is your LP a custom shop?? I own a LP Traditional. I love 57' classics, but I have them in my SG Standard. So I thinking about dropping a set of pearly gates. Being a Billy F. Gibbons fanatic as you are, Do you think it would work? Thanks............

man i cant believe how many unbeleivable guitarists there are one youtube, it would just kill my dreams if i was a little kid that wanted to be a rockstar
Could I ask what kind of amp you used, or is that part of your secret stash so nobody can copy you? I'm big on marshalls myself, and that ZZ top tone is the stuff for me. It falls right into that same midrange chunky crunch like early Jimmy Page tone. It's the stuff that evolves into that really bity high end scraping sound you find in late marshall era's like Van Halen's shrill brown sound, or Slash's similar alnico pro II humbuckers through the jcm 800 I know his was modded from Appetite
@pollywoggle24 Sure man - no secrets here - I am using a Peavey JSX head with some original 5150 cabinets. The JSX is a 3-channel amp and is set to the overdrive channel with gain set about midway and I added some delay and reverb from Boss stomboxes to round out the tone. You are right about Marshall too - you could not go wrong with a Marshall amp!
@estevan086 Thanks man! I played through a humbucker pickup(bridge) and use a combo of overdrive/delay/reverb for this one - with gain at about 5 on the amp but the recording has two separate guitar tones that I did not try to emulate here. Hope that helps!
