  • This makes me feel so good. My fiddle teacher gives out to me about how I hold the fiddle, and I hold it the same as Mr Hayes here, who is a musical legend. Watching him play with Lúnasa was the best moment of my life.

  • martin is a playing Machine indeed, Bravo

    JD

  • j'adore aussi bien jeune dans son style qu'aujourd'hui !! pour moi c'est mon fiddler prefere!!

  • Perfect combo, perfectly executed tune. Love it!

  • That's so cool to see Martin this far back.

  • Martin, what happened to your hair?

  • I've never hears Martin Hayes play this fast. At any tempo, though, he's one of the greats!!!

  • martin looks so different

  • guitar's deffinatley havin a hard time keepin up,

sometimes i know how he feels

  • I think Mr. Hayes ended up giving this guy the "El Kabong" treatment, well deserved.

  • The guitar destroys this lovely music. TOO LOUD.........Martin is a genius.

  • @clarebannerman Drags the tempo down, comparing middle or end to the opening. Loudness though is set by the sound crew. I remember a Paddy Keenan live performance with him leaning steadily farther away from his pick-up guitarist that he nearly fell off his stool trying to escape.

  • Who said that Martin was playing slow ?

  • The guitarist is definitely dragging the tempo. I hate it when they do that!!

  • Martin looks very young here maybe 21. You can hear the greatness coming! Thanks for [posting <3 Bb

  • wonderful, simply wonderful!

  • Amazing, as usual, for everything coming out from that fiddler's heart, fingers and everything. I only knew Matt Molloy's...

  • That's a very young Martin Hayes--pre-funkification. Nice!

  • Marvellous. Great! Stupendo! By the way of music, let me show you what musicians of Brazil and Argentina are doing with an accordion, fiddle, etc. in folklore music. If you want, please search for these 4 videos:

    - Tio Mederico- Dvd Os Serranos 40 anos- Sempre Gaúchos

  • he looks like hes dead

  • Well done.

  • this is deadly ....why didnt he stay this way

  • That is the loudest guitar player I have EVER heard.

Great that Martin abandoned that style of playing and found players with skill and touch

  • Love it !!

  • Showy, ain't it? I'm betting that this makes MH wince.

But why do all you repliers have to know who is "the BEST"?

  • @proinsias78 It's a human nature to talk about the best. We talk about the best restaurant in town, the best car. We even talk about who might have won the Cold War if it became hot.

Surely in ITM, it is definitely unnecessary to do this. But sometimes, I don't care. Seriously, I was just making a point to paddy because he made a reply to someone, a reply which I wasn't entirely happy about. Also, I was also expressing my greatest fiddle player in my books, so nobody else has to bother.

  • This guy rules

  • This is Micho Russells Masons Apron its not the same as the other tune

  • It's the Mason's Apron, Paddy. And it sounds more like bluegrass than like anything Micho ever did in his life, or would have wanted to do.

  • Thankyou so much for this! I've never heard Martin's playing before his present style developed. He's been an amazing player all his life.

  • He's better then Sean McGuire :)

  • @Bile3 I think u might have serious issue's thinking something like that. Seek help fast mate.....

  • @gibsonpaddy I don't think he meant it in a seriously bad way. Besides, I can compare him to Sean in some ways, despite the fact that Martin Hayes isn't an old timer for one reason: because he was the son of P. J. Hayes and was particularly inspired by him to take up the fiddle. But of course, Sean McGuire is still king. Sean's 'nyah' is like none other.

He's no longer around any more, so I'd rate Tommy Peoples as the most important fiddle player alive today.

  • 99% of Musicians would rate Frankie Gavin as number 1.

  • @gibsonpaddy Interesting... I've not heard his playing yet actually, so I'll go ahead to. I still think Tommy Peoples is in the league of his own when it comes to rhythm, technique and knowledge of the tradition.

  • You can tell us what 99% of musicians think? Are you nuts?

  • First time I see Martin Hayes playing like that : It's impressive!
