Hoegaarden is a very good white ale but I recommend that you try Sterkens White Ale; also from Belgium. I've always loved Hoegaarden but one day I saw the Sterkens and decided to buy a 4 pack. I put the Sterkens up against the Hoegaarden and man was I impressed. The Sterkens blew my socks off. Sorry Hoegaarden.
I love Hoegaarden. I wouldn't consider it a winter beer, but to each their own. I personally get more of an orange zest taste than a lemon taste, myself. Good review as always. I hope your holidays are good.
Interesting choice for a Christmas beer review. I've had this beer here in NY and I liked it a lot too. It does travel well because they're smart enough to put it in brown bottles instead of green.
You kind of poured that wrong. An unfiltered wheat beer like a wit or a hefeweizen should be poured til you have an inch or two left in the bottle, then you swirl it up and pour it out to get all the yeast that settled at the bottom of the bottle.
@Chad9976 im just curious chad if you know whats up with the green bottles? inbev bottles hoegaarden and becks and stella artois. so why not use brown bottles for all there beers?
@tfs2006 I think you'd have to ask a European about that. The only thing I can think of is tradition: if they've been selling them in green bottles all these years they don't have much incentive to change to brown (which I would assume is more expensive than green)

Still waiting to hear back from you on the trade!

Yes, the hefeweizen should be poured as you describe it. True. I just didn't have such a big glass so it was impossible.
Merry Christmas to you! Cheers!
