One Moment of Your Time'. This campaign is set up to get 25,000 people to sign the organ donor register in the 25 days up to Christmas.
All I need is just ‘one minute of your time’, to invite you to sign the ‘Organ Donor Register’.
At this time of the year, it is most poignant because we all seem to miss our loved ones even more ‘. Go to Facebook and go ‘One Moment of your Time’.
I saw this for the first time when I was 9 while my older brother was watching it. I literally fainted, I was so disturbed. Had no idea this was suppose to be a comedy. lol If the guy's screams weren't convincing, I would've been fine.
i've seen a lot of sick, fucked up horror movies and anime, but this just takes the cake. This is so disturbing, I can't watch it without feeling pain in my abdomen. still funny, though.
I'm still very confused about what sort of nationality/ethnicity Gilliam is trying to portray here. He has dreadlocks, his accent sounds like a combination "Eastern European" and "New York cab driver", and to confuse matters even worse there is Yiddish music playing in the background of his house.
Dear god, look at Graham...Whilst cutting out that poor man's liver, even whilst doing that, he's smoking hot. Too bad he's gay. Well, and dead. Too bad he was gay.
OH MY GOD'S SONE NAMED JESUS CHRIST WITH HIS MOTHER MARY, WHAT ARE THEY DOING TO HIME????!!!!! HAT IN THE NAME OF THE GOD FAMILY IS WRONT WITH THEM???!!!!!!!!!!!!
This is fucking hilarious! I watched the whole thing (the meaning of life) the other day... ROFLMAO! It's a bit dated though :/ .... i still love it! XD
Graham looks kinda like Robert De Niro in this scene (at least that's what I think) and John apparently put cotton balls in the sides of his mouth to look like Marlon Brando from The Godfather
Is it me or those two collectors look rather weird? Especially John Cleese's character. He has a weird look on his face when the other removes the liver.
I love MP Meaning of Life. But I've always wondered why the guy is wearing dreadlocks and a Bob Marley t-shirt. Were the Pythons just a fan of his music? Or is there some kind of inside joke I'm missing?
Yes, let's all become an organ donor so someone can get to live, have a life, get marry and have a family while you get to die in a rotten casket that no one cares about.
Fuck that bullshit. You drink, you smoke, you're not getting shit from me.
I love the wife's reaction to the whole thing. they're slicing this guy up, and she says '"typical of him. he goes down to the public library, sees a few posters, and comes home all full of good intentions." whatever reaction could you possibly have to two people coming into your home and slicing out your husbands liver.
I have to agree with those that say this is gruesome stuff. It's a failure of expectation. You usually don't expect gore in a comedy film. I was shocked when I saw this the first time. It wouldn't be as horrible to me if it wasn't in the context of having to 'be funny.' I can see the humor and what's supposed to be funny, but I don't laugh because I can see this actually happening. If this was in an explicit horror or gore film, I wouldn't care as much.
I think it would have worked better if John had stayed in the hallway whilst a kind of "Mary Queen of Scots" operation went on off stage behind him, wild sound effects, limbs and buckets of blood every where but in such excessive quantities the effect would be funny and not disturbing.
It would make the dialogue funnier as well. Jones said in an interview on the film's release that they had filmed sequences they had expected to be cut and I wonder if this was one of them.
@TheOpinionatedPerson seriously? This has fake blood, uber fake organs, and the silliest "pained yells" imaginable, and you're comparing it to a film that shows a REAL and brutal murder? Seriously?! You're an ass clown.
@Zarkow Yes, i saw Repo Men yesterday, and in one scene there was Jude Law and Forest Whitaker watching television, and the scene they were watching was this scene :)
I watched the movie Repo Men. Then i watched this sketch again, and i imagined Jude Law and Forest Whitaker in place of Cleese and Chapman. Hilarity ensued.
How to destroy a very funny idea by turning it into a totally nasty one. They should have slammed the door once it became clear what was going to happen and moved on.
Watching somebody screaming and kicking around whilst they are being disembowelled is not funny. Suggestion is a far more powerful comedic tool and this would have been a lot funnier without the gratuitous violence.
Comedy violence has its place as with "Sam Peckinpah's Salad Days" and the Black Knight in Holy Grail. This fails.
@theturtledude12 Indeed. People used to like watching people being ripped apart by Lions as well at one stage. This is a hilarious idea badly executed. To see gore comedy done hilariously check out Sam Raimi.
Material like this needs a cartoonish element to distance itself from the audience somewhat which is why Mr Creosote, The Black Knight and Salad Days are funny.
This is too close to reality, made even worse by the fact that you are asked to identify with the donor at the start. Horrible!!
@egapnala65 By all means, if you actually survive being sliced up like that and still live for that long, I'd call that more than enough unrealistic... The funny part is when they talk, not when they disembowels him. Even they had to do something different than previous sketches, and copying Sam would just be ridiculous...
You cannot compare the Black Knight and this one. It is 2 whole different universes, if I may put it that way.
But if you want to emphasise the dialogue, put that in the foreground. Here the emphasis is on the disembowelment not the dialogue. Putting the disembowelment offstage would have been an improvement.
Whether or not the survival is unlikely and cartoonish, the screaming and the floundering about aspects belong in a horror film like "Hostel" not a Python movie.
Haha shocking but genius sketch! "I know what it is, but...I'm using it." LOL! It makes me laugh when the unfortunate "patient" still tries to cling onto his liver when it's been taken out, haha! xD.
